Sorry about the spill on your sofa...

So, like, here I am, writing a blog on CN. Finally, I get a soapbox in a game where most people playing are self-important sixteen year old's who not-so-secretly aspire to be the next Rommel or Patton, the kind of people who see your ability to play Risk as a measure of your worth. Oh god how did it come to this. I don't know. So let me get blitzed and move on. So here are my random post-bake out musings about the game: Cannabis should be a resource. Maybe Kevin can get off of his fat ass a

Bin Laden deserved to die. He deserved no trial, nor anything else. He invoked war to describe his struggle with the West and he was treated as a combatant; which is to say, he was shot in the head. On this point, I don't think many will disagree. But our reaction here in the U.S. last night left me with some serious disquiet, watching the crowds grow in DC, NYC and elsewhere. The cheering and chanting didn't inspire me, it reminded me of Damascus, Tripoli, Kabul and the countless rallies sinc

Really Green Party?

I received an email from a friend who forward me a facebook conversation they were having with a member of the Green Party about the results of yesterday's election. After reading it I felt the need to share just how wonderful this wannabe MP was at playing politics. ] [Friend] The majority can't be all retarded. That's the point of democracy... To allow a leadership that most Canadians want. (Well the Canadians who actually voted). 10 hours ago • Like • [Wannabe MP] No, I think in this

Whither jus post bellum

So much for a reasonable, rational, and just conclusion to this latest conflict. Way to win the war but completely lose the peace. Enough harping goes on in OWF about alliances who choose to maintain their sovereign neutrality, but really? Are these latest published "terms" any way to convince them to engage on one or another side of the treaty web, such as it is? Punishing an alliance for employing a wholly legitimate wartime engagement and asset conservation strategy? Are all rules

HistWar: Les Grognards

I first saw this game years ago when browsing for a rival to the Total War franchise. I remember hearing of the scale and the possibilities then waiting eagerly for its arrival. Upon release I ended up purchasing a deluxe version with the ability to download the game and having a physical copy with manual and cards sent to my home. At that point played it a bit before it got shelved due to me becoming distracted. What I had read of its depth would lead me to bringing the manual to work to read o

Hi. I'm a boy.....

OMG! A boy! And on the internet too! What a highly unusual thing. Who would have ever expected such an unexpectable thing to happen? Well, I can't say I can provide pics. I just hope you believe me. Anyway I really hope you guys won't treat me any differently than you would otherwise, and I don't want to be treated otherwise. I'm not pointing out my boyishness for attention or anything. Believe me. That is the last thing I'd ever want to do. I just thought you'd want to know that I'm a boy. And

The Terms that CoJ Accepted

OsRavan has suddenly and inexplicably started claiming that it is CoJ which has rejected peace, not ODN who has refused it, in flat contradiction to all reality. Because some people are not as smart as others, rather than depend on everyone to understand that Os just now started making this claim after taking a public punch on the nose and it's fishy, I will provide here for you all the exact terms which OsRavan proposed himself, and which CoJ accepted. <Schattenmann> You rang <OsRav

Lateral Surfing

You know what I mean. One minute you're looking at the Wikipedia's 'Recent Deaths' list -- I check this at least one each day, btw -- and the next thing you know you're reading about nearly-extinct flora and fauna that exist only in the Korean Demilitarized Zone. Or something. This happens to me all the time, and usually results in my wife sitting down at our computer, seeing the browser window I've left open, and asking why I'm reading about pink river dolphins, varieties of potato pancakes o

NPO Front Stats: 90 Day Edition

Linky It took a couple hours, but I finally added all the combatants on the NPO front, using the available nation strength stats. There are still a few gaps, mainly because Unspeakable Evil stopped updating his thread in the beginning of March and I did not start making this until early April. The losses page for both sides should speak for itself, let me know if you have any issues. The MK Side line graph has a couple alliances that are the same color. I tried fiddling with it for about 30

Decline of MK

Today Rebel Virginia was elected by a large margin MK's Pollmaster. What does it mean for MK to have this position held by an outsider? Has MK given up much of its sovereignty to MK with this act? Is there such a talent drain in MK that it is unable to produce its own Pollmasters? FOR LOVE OF GOD SOMEBODY TELL ME!!!

NBA western conference semis

2.LA. Lakers vs 3.Dallas Mavs a great match up. got Kobe Bryant got Dirk (i cannot spell his last name to lazy to look up) im giving the advantage right now to the Lakers. Bynum is playing amazing on both ends of the court will force dirk to play D on either Gasol or Odom something he will struggle with. lakers one of the few teams that can rough up Dallas and make Dirks life hard for him. for Dallas to win they going to need more than Dirk and Jason Terry scoring they need 2 more reliable s

SANCTIONS!

The other day I was asked to sanction this guy: http://www.cybernations.net/nation_drill_display.asp?Nation_ID=64408 for being a "nuke rogue". I check his nation/war screen and see this: http://www.cybernations.net/search_wars.asp?search=64408&Extended=1 Are you serious? Unfortunately, he's been sanctioned on most if not all colors, including my own, for not peacing out of a tech raid. Pretty sad, fellas. Also, to the "victims" of this dastardly "nuke rogue": Lose a lot of land for me, h

Moralism

Can we please stop pretending that any of us have any morals whatsoever? You're only fooling the stupid people. I was worried when Karma started blathering about morals. I always thought that was a silly decision, and I think the "ex-Hegemony" all of a sudden becoming "moralist" after that war bears that out. People whine about morals when it suits their interests, and ignore them when it doesn't. We're like real life that way. So yeah, that's all I've got.

Eastern Conference round 2 NBA

1.Chicago Bull vs 5.Atlanta Hawks i expected Chicago to be hear. i didnt expect Atlanta to be hear. i thought home court and Howard would make this a Bulls vs Magic second round. Guess i was wrong. this is going to be a fun series if Atlanta shows up. im picking Chicago to win the series in 6-7 games. Chicago has one of the best D's out there and will hold Atlanta in check. Atlanta is ok on D and i dont see them slowing down Derrick Rose. Also the Boozer vs Al Horford match up is going to be

Treaties - A Reference Guide

OK, this one annoys me. People always !@#$%*ing and comparing 50 different kinds of treaties. It's all wrong. There are 5 types of treaties, and no more. MDAP - The highest treaty, requires two parties to always go to war along side each other. I would like to make a special note here - This is not the same as signing away your sovereignty. You always have the sovereign right to cancel a MADP in times of peace. But when war is on, you'd better honor your agreements. "Sovereignty" is not

Alabama Tornado Disaster.

Last night a series of tornados, including a probable F5, wreaked havoc across north and central Alabama, my home. Fortunately my town was spared everything but some downed trees, but others were not so lucky. Densely inhabited areas of Cullman, Tuscaloosa, and Birmingham were devastated, and at least 190 Alabamians are dead, with others missing and many more left homeless or injured. I have never seen anything like this as long as I've lived here. Restaurants in Tuscaloosa that I've visited rec

Hoo's Final NFL Mock Draft of 2011

I got too busy and couldn't do the position-by-position breakdown that I wanted to do. Instead, I will post my finalized mock draft for round one and two. Keep in mind that these picks aren't the picks that I would necessarily make, but are the picks that I think each time WILL make. We all get to see just how wrong I am in about four and a half hours. Round 1 1. Carolina - Cam Newton, QB, Auburn 2. Denver - Marcel Dareus, DT, Alabama 3. Buffalo - Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M 4. Cincinn

The treaty that will never, ever, exist

Author's note: this is entirely a parody and is not something we would ever implement, even if we were in a position to so. It is designed to be a thought experiment as to how "evil" one can make terms. Preamble The undersigned alliances, having engaged each other in combat, one of them having fought valiantly against the another, agree to end their respective hostilities according to the terms now set forth. Pot, Music and the Feds

In tribute to 4/20 the other day. I would have posted it then.... but I was busy... and forgot. I enjoyed this general rant and you might, too. I've read more academic responses, but this one was worth the few minutes to read. ----------------------------------- http://www.counterpunch.org/sinclair04262011.html Pot, Music and the Feds By JOHN SINCLAIR Oxford, Miss.
