  1. Is this average percentage gain over a month (average daily percentage gain x 30) or the figure at the start of the month and the figure at the end of the month?

So, say an alliance grows 10% then crumbles in a single day. Do they get put into the draw?

Provided that they've still gained 6% over the entire month, then yes.

  2. Regardless of what he did or why he did it, the bottom line is that OsRaven stuck his nose where it didn't belong.

Was UPN a trusted friend or were they just some little child whose decisions ODN were trying to make for them? Kinda ironic since ODN is hardly intelligent enough to make their own decisions (hence the reason why they joined CnG.)

Oh come now, we both know that you're grasping at straws with that one.

  3. If it was designed to embarrass and humiliate people, don't you think the terms would be more, I don't know, embarrassing or humiliating? The whole thing is really quite silly when you look at it objectively. We ask people to write us poems or draw us pictures. It's designed to add some fun to a situation that is otherwise almost completely devoid of fun.

That's exactly the point I'm getting at, and that's why I made my original comment. If Sardonic had given examples like yourself or Hidraca have done, then it would've been a non-issue and I wouldn't have needed to respond in the first place. However, trying to convince CN that the mercy board doesn't humiliate people - simply because it gives them alternative to paying money - isn't going to fly, unless (like you and Hidraca have done) you address the humiliation aspect.

  4. Learn how to read a flow chart. The only mention of monetary compensation is in the case of an EoG. The tech raid flowchart doesn't say anything about monetary compensation.

Seriously, I wish our opposition would learn to read and then respond, rather than just respond. How many people have commented with questions that were already answered in the OP? I mean, I'd expect it from HoT, but not you, gopherbashi. That's just sad, man.

On the contrary Nippy, my comment was in response to Sardonic's half-assed rebuttal to the myth that "the mercy board is designed to embarrass people". Nowhere in his reality does he refute this claim - it is completely possible (and argued by many) that the mercy board is "designed so that nations have an alternative to paying money to secure their peace" while still intended to embarass them in the process.

If you're going to launch a PR campaign to defend the mercy board, have Hidraca do it - addressing the actual myth, explaining why and how the mercy board isn't designed to humiliate people, and giving concrete examples to refute these myths is going to get you a lot farther than anything Sardonic posted.

  5. If you consider drawing a robot fish or writing a letter telling a stand-up comedian he's not funny, I guess.

I'm also shocked that you've managed to live in this harsh, unforgiving world of embarrassment and humiliation if that's the case.

We also make our own members do mercy terms when they screw up. I'd elaborate more but I fear this post alone is embarrassing you.

On the contrary Beefspari, what am I looking for is a clear yes or no answer with some substance to it. I'm more than happy to hear your elaboration, because Sardonic's initial entry doesn't seem to be anything but political spin. Your mercy board has a poor reputation, and saying "trust us, it's a really really good thing" in its defense isn't going to convince anyone without some more information regarding what it's actually all about.

EDIT: And thank you to Hidraca for providing some. :)

  6. Myth: The mercy board is designed to embarrass people

Reality: The mercy board is designed so that nations have an alternative to paying money to secure their peace. It is for the benefit of our enemies that we have the mercy board, or else we wouldn't have any way to solve our differences besides monetary means.

So I'm assuming the reality is "the mercy board is designed to embarrass people", then.

  7. That's the problem no one is. All the other side is doing is whining about how they can't. If you don't want to form something then don't whine about how you can't. In reality I think all of you guys realize you will all be rolled again eventually. If you enjoy getting rolled go ahead and continue business as usual. Otherwise why not try to change things? You guys really don't have much to lose.

I really don't think that "we" are whining as much as you think we are - I'm certainly not - just as "all of you" aren't fixated with rounding up any ex-Heg still breathing and putting a bullet in their brain. Either argument is a gross oversimplification, and we both know that it's not as if any side is ruled over by a hivemind whose sole purpose in life is to completely destroy the other.

In essence, we're both putting words in each others' mouths. Someone will spout off and say "All you Karma alliances are killing the game with your treaty web", to which someone will inevitably respond "Then why don't all you ex-Heg stop !@#$%ing out and do something about it", followed by "Actually, 'all us ex-Heg' aren't all that concerned about this treaty web", and finally "Ex-Heg must be whiners, since all they do is complain about the treaty web instead of mounting an opposition to it."

As always, there are people on both sides who are speaking as if they represent an entire faction, in an attempt to promote their latest crusade. Sure, some will be followers, but others will have no interest in what their self-appointed "spokesman" is saying. For example, when I say that I'm not all that interested in organizing an opposition to Pandora, it's because I really don't feel that it's something to be combated or that it's some great satanic evil upon the Cyberverse; not that I'm secretly hoping for it's downfall but am just too lazy to lift a finger to see that happen. And, truth be told, I honestly feel that the majority of us 'whiners' in ex-Heg feel the same way.

  8. You're missing the point though Haf. I agree it would be really hard to form an opposition, but it looked fairly similar to this before Karma started. The way to fight things like this is to find people who secretly dislike each other and slowly move them to opposite sides. It's pretty much no secret that Polar don't like most of the members in this new bloc. It's no secret that there were some ex-MK allies that weren't very happy about being canceled on. Instead of slowly approaching those folks and working toward a common goal all you guys are doing is whining about how hard it would be to form an opposition. Even when MK had treaties and it was only just Super-Grievances (basically just two groups with a lot of common allies). No one wanted to really try to do anything. They just said "I'll kiss up to SF and hope they fight CnG" or "I'll kiss up to CnG and hope they fight SF". You won't get anything to eat if you don't open your mouth.

All of this is working on the assumption that everyone not tied to Superpandoragrievances is (or should be) trying to form an opposition to that group; when in reality, there's really not great need or desire to do so. Sure, we may not be on the "inside", but that doesn't mean that we have any great hostility to those who are.

  9. The other issue I see is that measuring by absolute gain is more realistic - sure, some micro alliance may gain 2% while GPA only gains 1%, but if this translates into +0.01 and +0.40 respectively, the micro will never catch up no matter how hard they try. GPA would have gained more in projectable strength than the micro.

  10. I was actually part of a group in Grade 12 called "Students Against Bullying", where we put on skits, etc. about different forms of bullying and how to stop it (we actually got trained by Second City for a little bit, which was pretty cool). I'm pretty sure that they ended up being those annoying presentations that you're forced to see and that you forget as soon as the next class starts, but who knows.

I should mention that even using LGBT in a derogatory fashion (ie. "that's gay") never really seemed to be a common issue at my school.

  11. "We haven't had a war in ages"

"These wars never end, they are so boring"

Those two are very inter-related. Since nations are so large and it takes a lot to defeat them, destroy their warchest, and remove them as a threat, wars are death matches which last months on end with crippling terms to boot. And since everyone knows what will happen to you if you declare war and your support disappeared (see preceding sentence), people are very unlikely to declare war unless they're certain that they'll have the support to win - not an easy thing to do when you have to factor hundreds of alliances and (dare I say it?) probably a thousand treaties into account.
