FOK don't betray the "kill Xiph coalition!"

So I'm starting to wonder if FOK is an undercover Super Friend. They have nearly rolled MJ, leaked a post about Ardus wanting to hurt SF, and now recently they indirectly caused people to vote to RnR's senate candidate. Is there something we need to know FOK? If I were you PB, I'd keep my eyes on these guys. So if FOK was a Super friend, which one would they be? disclaimer: I am not being serious with anything up there I said. I like FOK and Cheeky is an awesome person.

Vacation at the beach, crab stew and many other foodstuffs

So I spent the last half of last week in a house down by the beach. Great, right? Well, sort of. Altogether, there were eighteen people sharing the one house. Four of them were less than a year old. Another four (five really, but one's a bit older) were young children. Don't get me wrong, I love kids. I used to be able to play with my siblings and the kids I babysat for hours on end. But, now isn't then. And within two days, between kids, hayfever (we were right near a national park) and lack

Computer Upgrade Success

All my stuff came in yesterday afternoon and after a bit of googling and experimentation, I figured out how everything fit together. It's really incredibly easy when you think about it. It all works great, I've tried out Saints Row 2, Just Cause 2, and Civilization V and all of them look great. Installing another crop of games right now to try out. My only issue so far is that high load can cause it to make a bothersome noise that is hard to tune out but with my roommate and I on different sched

Open Discussion: CN Game Mechanics - Present/Future

So as to not continue cluttering up the discussion of political/social factors past/present/future in the other entry I'm opening this one up strictly to core game mechanics. The two main things that have been identified as needing change are: Foreign Aid System Nation Strength Calculation Suggestions So Far - Change how much tech/land contributes to NS after a certain NS point - Remove the ability to send tech at all, and institute tech degradation where the more tech you have, the

Open Discussion: Past, Present, and Future of CN

I do love over analyzing the culture on this game (compared to NS, et al it is fascinating), so I thought I'd open up kind of an open thread for what made CN enjoyable in the past (and didn't) and similarly what does it for you now v. then. What makes you happy to play, what doesn't? Obviously I think the political aspect is going to be a heavy part of the discussion, because (necessarily) most of the people who visit the forums get most of our entertainment out of it - and certainly we should

The Saga Begins

It's been a matter of days since I stepped up and became the viceroy of The Legion. There were other suitors but at the end of the day, it was ol' Rontastic filling the void and giving this alliance a much needed personality transplant. HEY! Remember back in the day when the name "The Legion" actually meant something? Didn't they have some catchy phrase they used to throw around? "Ave Legio" or something. What the hell does that even mean? I'm sure some Latin speaking nerd will come by and point

Shout out for IAA

IAA and their Wonderful Blitz: In an alliance of 51 members and 41 in war mode you managed a very successful blitz, a combined 8 offensive wars from over 40 members. I must say the New Sakura Order must feel safe with you guys protecting them, I would. Even better is that they only have a total of 16 wars o.O Stay in school kids, maybe you will learn how to fight Note: These are my personal thoughts, they do not reflect anything anybody else says.

Computer Upgrade

Those of you who have gotten to know me somewhat outside of the CN political realm might know that I'm something of an avid PC gamer. Unfortunately up until now, the machine I've been using has been sub-par given the amount of time (a lot) and money (over one thousand dollars on Steam in the past year) I spend on this hobby of mine. Current Machine: Pentium D 3.0Ghz Radeon HD 5570 1GB VRAM 2 GB of DDR2 RAM It's not a pretty sight. This machine wasn't meant to play video games when it was bu

A story of Italian magic

WARNING: extreme romanticism below read at your own peril! In October 2005, I was on a short trip in Firenze (Florence), Italy, with my (at the time) girlfriend. Walking on the Ponte Vecchio we were looking at the windows of the jewelry shops that occupy both sides of the bridge, when our attention was attracted by a golden ring with seven stones of different colours. We both didn't much like yellow gold and we thus entered the shop to ask whether they maybe had a white gold ver

Boring food and jet lag makes for an unhappy Coyote

I haven't had any interesting food in the last few days, mainly because I've been far too lazy to cook anything good and because I've spent 2 of the last 3 days asleep on long-haul flights that have messed up my sleep pattern. I'm not very happy when I don't have lots of good food. I'm toying with the idea right now of making a garlic and saffron stock I love and using it as the base for a potato and leek soup. I also want to do a stuffed chicken in the next few days. I'm jet-lagged still, and

Thank you Non Grata.

A little something I've been keeping track of on our forums: October 2: 69 {79} (+0) Deinos : 7.82 --> 7.86 (+0.04) 70 {91} (+0) United Purple Nations : 8.28 --> 7.79 (-0.49) We over in the Deinos camp appreciate your actions a great deal!

Dear Non Grata and various warmongers...

Thank you so much for making me one of the only democratically elected leaders to only be president while significant wars are going on around Planet Bob. I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to refine my war leader skills many times over, and I am glad you didn't have the patience to wait until after my term was over in Planet Bob. After all, its not like Karma, Bipolar, and PB-NpO were enough to satiate my thirst for war. I hereby offer my services as a war predictor. Any time you want a w

Diberia's Amazonians: Fear of the Rainforest

Description The Amazonians form the core of Diberia's religion, the Tome, and follow it to the letter. They are the ones who guard Diberia's secrets and holy places, standing as the first and last lines of defense. Few other rainforest guerrillas can match them in battle, and even fewer match their survival skills. When a babe is born in one of the Tome's holy and ancient temples, they are forever bound to the ways of the Amazonian. Dishonoring this tradition means banishment from Diberia forev

What Makes CN Tick Pt 1

In my introduction, I said I was going to do several more blogs about what it is that makes this game keep going on. I asked around, and apparently out of game discussion is okay on a blog, but other rules apparently still apply (still not clear on that given there's a separate ToS for blogs. If someone can fill me in on the details I'd appreciate it). That said however, I'm going to put off discussion on actual game mechanics for now. Because lets face it, at the core of this game we all play,

The Fallacy of the Past

There are those that espouse the mistaken belief that history is immutable. That memory is absolute. They use this fallacy as the hammer with which to strike down any and all attempts of those who try to leave their previous mistakes behind in favor of rising to a new future, one where those weighed down by past mistakes can reinvent themselves for the sake of their future. But, as I've been subtly suggesting, the argument is based upon a faulty premise. The past is far from immutable. Indeed,
