Computer Upgrade
Those of you who have gotten to know me somewhat outside of the CN political realm might know that I'm something of an avid PC gamer. Unfortunately up until now, the machine I've been using has been sub-par given the amount of time (a lot) and money (over one thousand dollars on Steam in the past year) I spend on this hobby of mine.
Current Machine:
Pentium D 3.0Ghz
Radeon HD 5570 1GB VRAM
2 GB of DDR2 RAM
It's not a pretty sight. This machine wasn't meant to play video games when it was built in 2007 and it certainly wasn't meant to play the games of 2011. It's managed most things I've thrown at it with the exception of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 which chugs along painfully in single player and straight up fails to work in multiplayer. I've been able to make it work so far by repeated GPU upgrades and upgrading the RAM but I'm pretty sure the power supply is failing. The mobo has a hard limit of 2GB of RAM, the CPU is ancient, the GPU does OK but is still under par for the newest games. Skyrim and BF3 will put this thing to bed for sure. So now I have some money and will be spending about 600 dollars on the following setup.
Phenom II X4 3.2Ghz
GeForce GTX 560 Ti 1 GB VRAM
8 GB of DDR3 RAM
It should be a massive improvement over what I've got now and I'm really looking forward to it. With any luck, the PC will be here by the weekend. It's about time I had a computer to match my interest. As an added bonus, the 560 Ti comes with a Steam code for Batman: Arkham City. I'll let you know how it goes.
