Two years ago, I wrote in the special commemorative Pacific Press issue for the two year anniversary of the New Pacific Order. The article was about our flag, that rockin' blue and black flag you see up top first here. In that article, I wrote about the flag's history in CyberNations, and what it symbolises. To those who have forgotten, and to those who simply are not aware, I will repeat it here for contextual sake:
The symbolism of the flag of the Order is a profound one. The deep blue hues on the flag represent the Pacific, eternal and dominating. The black represents the jackboots of the soldiers of the Order, forever crushing our enemies' throats. Eight triangles, to represent the number of infinity. Lastly, the golden star of Francos Spain, the five points representing the five days between the August Revolution on August 28th, 2003 and the founding of the New Pacific Order, on September 1st, 2003. The very first banners of Franco used to display the star outlined in red, to commemorate the blood spilled from our fallen comrades during the Revolution.
In the two years since the two year anniversary, an alternative flag has made it's way around the barracks and bases of the Order - the Crimson Standard, that gloriously red flag you see up there. The symbols represented in that flag are just as profound: Red, for the blood always spilled in defense of our values and comrades. Black, for those darkest nights before the dawn when Pacifica prevailed in the end. Eight triangles, to represent the number of infinity and of prosperity. Lastly and always, the golden star of Francos Spain, the five points representing the five days between the August Revolution on August 28th, 2003 and the founding of the New Pacific Order, on September 1st, 2003. Now the banners of Pacifica will always commemorate the blood spilled from our fallen comrades.

As the Order lives and breathes, so does the spirit of Peace, Strength, and Prosperity.

Hail the New Pacific Order!

Note: The pictures are thumbnails because some of the originals are massive in size.

How exactly do 8 triangles represent infinity? Could you go more in depth on this?

In that case, where do the triangles come into play? Just wanted some triangles?

Why are your national rulers all located in tiny bedrooms? Where are the great halls and palaces of state in their nations?

You should see where we keep our nukes these days. ;)

Also, a question about the flag itself - should the first triangle when travelling clockwise from noon be black or red/blue? The orientation of the flag seems to shift depending on the picture.

The object is less of importance than the number of objects, its not literal, that's why they call it symbolism.

((The US flag uses stars for the States, and bars for the original colonies, for an nice OOC example that's easily relateable to the player base.))

Flag imagery tends not to be very literal, (though there are some cases of it) especially when it comes to counting/numbers. You almost never see numbers on a flag, rather a regular theme repeated, and the number of times its repeated becomes the significant part.

The reason for this is that a flag is supposed to have notable/memorable imagery, since humans as a species are pattern seekers, (that is, our brains attempt to find patterns in everything, even where none exist we will attempt to overlay one, its just the way we think) so we will retain a deliberately pattered image better than one that is not.

Eh I'm rambling, the short answer probably is "yes" they did just want some triangles :P. But now you know why eight triangles were a better choice than just slapping the infinity symbol on there somewhere.

How dare you question their made up symbolism!

Edit: Also this really has blurred the IC and OOC lines now hasn't it?

I'm very surprised by the patriotism in the NPO. I knew it was there and abundant but I didn't think it translated to such large purchases of flags.

[ooc: How dare they create a rich backstory and imagine interesting symbolism? It is almost as if they are treating cybernations like it is some sort of game in which you are supposed to create a role and play it. A "play rolling game" or something.]

OOC: A lot of company's do it but it costs a lot, but with some scissors and a sewing machine you can make your own.
