Announcement from \m/

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if you're serious or not but judging from your first post I guess you are. I'm not claiming they're being punished, reread my first post carefully.

Thanks for the insgihtful info on censorship and punishment in polar. I'll just add to the list of reasons to avoid that place.

I would quit while you're ahead, punishment for racial remarks (or general bad/offensive behavior) is not 'censorship'

This thread needs moar trollz. Should have installed that plug-in to allow complete control over members keyboards whilst lurking your public channel. :smug:

I cannot say whether this is a PR stunt or not, but I am guessing a big portion of the nay-sayers in this thread would have not known about it in the first place if said topic was not created.

Recently in #\m/ on irc.synirc.net several \m/ members spewed extremely racist remarks against many people. The behavior of our members can be characterized as abhorrent and it is not the \m/ way.
However, those who frequent #\m/ should know that these sort of comments are said all the time

Wha...? So are you condemning or condoning these remarks. Out of one side of your mouth you say sorry, out of the other side you excuse and rationalize the 'abhorrent' actions.

Classy as always \m/

I don't really see the need for this apology. First of all, it doesn't really look like an apology, but more like a warning of what will happen; which is fair enough I guess. Also, I have always seen such remarks and controversies as an individual v. individual one, not reflecting on the alliances. While \m/ might have more of this than is par for the course, I see no reason to get angry at them for things their members say in their own channel, take it up with the people doing it.

I know right? If I want to offend people and act like a jackass then BY GOD I have the right to do so! They can't censor me! I DO WHAT I WANT

Ugh. Threatening to attack alliances over IRC banter is soooooooo 2007! I just love that of course the people offended to the point of war at the offhand remarks of a bunch of childlike rulers also claim maturity.

I'd rather die than have a Digiterran Censorship Board or Upright Citizens Brigade punishing people for speech. Burn.

Kicking people without warning for using colorful language would be. Maybe I'm just spoiled with being in nice communities that doesn't throw members out to the wolves when the alliance might risk some bad pr.

Regardless members do not speak for the alliance as a whole even if they're not thrown out for what they said. Wich was the original issue here.

B-b-b-b-but it was a racist remark, not a rape joke!

But seriously nothing would please me more than to see some moralists go have some fun wiping \m/ away. However once again we will sit here have a discussion about how classy \m/ is for posting their apology, and how !@#$ty some of their members are for saying these terrible, awful, things and everyone will go home.

Statements like this are amazingly ironic. "\m/ is a terrible, terrible alliance and should be destroyed for the dirty words that come out of its' members' mouths." Why is it ironic? Because in the [OOC]MK alliance forums[/OOC], you have "18+" areas that objectify women. BUT WE DON'T HEAR YOU !@#$%*ING ABOUT THAT, DO WE, SEEROW? MK isn't the only alliance that has provisions for such things, but I really really can't believe what I'm hearing.

Morals when convenient. At least neneko is putting on a good show for MK.

"damn girl, if you didn't want to get jumped you shouldn't have been taking the shortcut through the alley".

On a more fitting level, if \m/ keeps requesting that issues be brought to their private channel and off this board, they should think ahead and kick out the idiots.

Nonconsensual sex and hanging out in a chat room where you don't like the topic of conversation are not even remotely similar. The offended bystanders who got all butthurt are not victims.

Except no one threatened \m/ with war over their choice of colorful language. Anyone who says differently is either ignorant or a goddamn liar. Edited by Fallen_Fool

Pointless announcement \m/ .

IRC chit chat when not to do with CN politics and plots is not relevant. You have members, they talk. What are you supposed to be, their momma? Of course if this was not on Planet Bob then your organization might have had issues, as it is now, this is irrelevant.

The members named by the Polar earlier in this topic were indeed warned and given a chance to make amends. Thank you for your concern, but I haven't seen a Polar member expelled without ample warning and generous chances for reform.

Yeah we are neo-moralists and censors who censorship and punish those who don't behavior themselves in a respectful and civilized manner. How bad we are.

If you are wondering, 'Am I misinformed if I believe that Polaris is going to attack \m/ because it is a community that fosters and tolerates racism,' then I will tell that 'yes, you are misinformed about this attack.' No attack will befall \m/ on account of the racism that it fosters and tolerates.

<Czar_Nick|Sleep> its not [censored crime] if theyre [possessing censored physical characteristic]

These comments happen all the time? You do not think there is a problem with that?

EDIT: Quoted some of the offense logs here, but on second thought, removing them before I am warned for repeating them.

<Czar_Nick|Sleep> its not murder if theyre black

What's '"black?" I see that some of my citizens might be Black, but I have no Digiterran contextual experience from which to understand what it is. All this outrage must be over some weird, non-Digiterran concept.

Who cares? It's their IRC channel on a seperate IRC network then pretty much the entirety of CN. If they were coming into your channels and saying the same things, I can see why you would throw a hissy fit over it. As of right now, I see absolutely no problems with joking around and actually having a little fun.

I didn't say that I was outraged by their remarks at all. What I said was I wouldn't mind seeing \m/ get wiped off the face of planet Bob. I did not like them the first time around, and this time they're even worse than they were the first time. Please don't get me mixed up with any of the moralists. I agree, if I had trouble with \m/ tossing around racial slurs it would be very hypocritical, as my alliance tends to have much banter in that regard that probably puts what happened in that channel to shame. However, we keep it private, and any inter-alliance tensions caused by it are dealt with internally. That \m/ could not contain themselves and made a bad impression publicly, thus giving those self-righteous moralists the excuse to roll them is their own fault. Me enjoying the thought of \m/ getting trashed for this is not the same as being the one wanting to get up in arms myself to trash them over this, though I'd lend my nation if asked towards such an endeavor simply for the joy of seeing the zombie die once and for all.

Though I must admit, you saying that morals are incompatible with having a subsection for porn is pretty laughable. Cause I'll be perfectly honest, any guy past the age of 13 who says they don't look at at least some porn is probably lying, those above 18 are almost definitely lying. Same probably goes for most women, but it's more stereotypical for guys. Clearly though having an acceptable place for such a popular passtime makes it impossible to have morals!

(For the record I don't even have a pervert mask to access said porn forum, I just felt the need to argue that point as being absolutely retarded)

Edit: I just realized who I was talking to. Seriously Jason, you should know me better than to think I'd ever become a moralist. What a lame callout :(
