Or are you referring to the death of the player behind TvM? I met TvM in Grämlins, long before joining Nordreich. He was always a good guy, a friend to everyone around, and he certainly never did or say anything to make me suspect for a moment what we found out later. Only when he died did it come out who he had been IRL. When I found out it was quite a bit of a shock, for sure. My first thought was that if we had met IRL, particularly in the 80s, there would have been a very good chance of violence. I very well might have ended him myself in those days. A very strange thought to have about someone who you have known IC as a good guy and a trustworthy friend for years. But my second thought went to his family. Whatever his problems (and clearly, he had some major ones, even if he gave no signs at all of that here) that's a woman and child stripped of their man in a moment of senseless violence entirely beyond their own control or making, facing the world now alone and exposed.

I'm glad I met TvM here, rather than the player behind him back in the 80s. I am glad we were friends rather than enemies. I think he was a guy that made himself a particular reputation, then found himself trapped by it when he grew up, not allowed to leave it behind, not allowed to change and grow. I think he found the freedom he needed to be himself, just a little, here, where he could be who he wanted to be rather than who he was expected to be. [/color]

If NoR is to be pilloried for passing around the hat for the widow and orphan, well that speaks to the depravity of those that would place themselves in judgement, nothing else. I dont care what color or religion or political bent or anything else - when a family loses their man to violence they are the victims and it is our human duty to help them if we can. I dont know them, I dont know their beliefs, but assuming the worst about them I would still hope that seeing the outpouring of support that they received from so many of TvMs rather rainbow-hued circle of friends here might prompt them to re-evaluate. [/color]

It's modelled on pan-germanic romanticism and the institutions of Imperial Germany. Claiming that has something to do with NS is just as ignorant and absurd as claiming that a Russian Imperial theme would imply support for Communism and the gulag.

Unless you are seriously going to argue that any German theme is inherently wrong (an absurd and racist position) then there really is no connection whatsoever.

What more is there to do than acknowledge that someone wasn't necessarily a nice guy in real life and move on? In the distant past I was in an alliance that had a member who ran into OOC legal trouble. We didn't then make a big deal of it IC and to this day still don't. At the time there were questions of whether he would be able to play further and if not what to do about it, but that was the extent of our IC interest. We were also concerned about the individual behind the character and hoped they got their act together (yes that person still plays).

We all come from a variety of backgrounds, nationalities, political philosophies, religious beliefs and such. Some we find unpleasant or objectionable and we can't be helped to be influenced by that IC, but to the extent that we can put aside differences and allow everyone to have a good gaming experience, we have an [b]obligation[/b] to do so. I see little to be gained chasing down perceived racists in game...I do however see a lot of innocent people having their gaming experience damaged or irreparably harmed for the sake of "crusade".[/i]

I fought in 10-10-10,but forgot that I was way over on improvement slots because I never rebought all my infra from cluster$%&@. I had to spend a buttload to recover from that tournament AND get myself back up to 9k. A little while later I fought in NEW-DF. That took cash to recover from as well...cash I spent literally days before NpO-VE. By the time that war was over I had to literally drain every last cent to get myself back to what I am today. I've fought 3 times more wars/duels than you in the last 8 months, of course I dont have as much cash on hand as I prefer.

We are a new FARK. Everything said before now no longer matters. We've changed our ways. You can't not like someone because of what they said more than an hour ago.

That said, I do think NoR is cool because of the past actions of a few of its members. They offered to help my dog with his gland problem. For that, I am forever grateful.
