Some of that loss will come from moving OP out of the main fighting group. They're worth 3 nations and about 130k NS.

Also, BTA is currently sitting at 18 nations, and I believe they were at 19 beforehand. Some of their loss will be NS, but likely one rather large nation leaving there as well.

I'm hesitant to do that because of how inaccurate that statistic would end up being. Say, for example, that Polar entered the war on Legion's side tomorrow. Now, instead of a 14% cumulative drop, it'll show maybe 5 or 6%, when all that's really reflecting is that an alliance entered ten days after the war began.

I'm not sure if we are talking about the same thing, but I have always thought that the culmulative performance of a coalition should be estimated based on some kind of weighted average score or unit score that accounts for incoming/outgoing alliances, similar to [url="http://www.fool.com/foolfaq/foolfaq0056.htm"]estimating portfolio performance[/url] with incoming/outgoing cash.

But I have admittedly not closely considered how it might work in practice for CN.

The war stats are really interesting, thanks Gopher.

Not counting the IAA, which doesn't seem actually much involved in the fighting, The Legion has the smallest cumulative overall NS loss, with the NSO a close second. The day's stats seem instead to indicate that The Legion is now losing NS faster than almost everyone else.
I have the impression that the first days in which The Legion had the numbers advantage allowed them to hit harder, but with the addition of opponents on the other side their lead started being eroded.

Not meaning to disrespect anyone else, but I also think that The Legion and the NSO are the two critical players in this fight: the BTA, NsO and Tetris don't seem to be able to really decide its outcome. The IAA could actually change something, but they'd first need to really put their weight into it.

The Legion has a quite bigger "mid" layer than the NSO and none of the two has a really heavy top layer (the little The Legion has is apparently kept safe in PM, thus the two 100k+ NS Siths have nobody to hit anymore - save the two already engaged). A quick, hasty glance at the tech levels also doesn't seem to show any significant advantage of either side.

I'd say that the war will be basically decided by warchests: the side which will first start to suffer of general bill-locks is likely going to "lose" (assuming that no new alliance enters the conflict).


Having spent just ten minutes analysing this, I am aware that many might (rightfully) consider it completely flawed...
I'd be happy to hear about the faults in this brief analysis, and also to read someone else's commentary on this war's stats.

I'd be really curious to see who has the most offensive wars. It makes sense to me at least, that the alliance with that has the initiative and is having its nations attack down, rather than be attacked from above, could mean great significance. I could be wrong though.

Legion: 39k + 24k +15k + 8.5k + 7k + 6k +5k + 5k + 2k + 1.5k + 1.5k + 0.5k + =
105k (+72k = 177k)

Sith: 64k + 18k + 89k + 13k + 1.5k = 170k

Counting you, legion would have added more than the sith. Even if we dont count your nations, the difference is still only 65k. Not exactly as big of a change as your post would make it seem.

65k isn't much relative to the alliance size, but considering we're comparing it to 170k, its significant. What I mean to say its ~40% less of the NS that has joined the Sith that has joined Legion.

Also:

BTA: 72k
Tetris: 58k

Which makes it 105k versus 300k.

Nope when Dorthonian joined NSO he was at 100K NS. So you need to add almost 10K to NSO. You also need to add in the mercs who joined Tetris, BTA, IAA etc. British Kuwait is just one example and was 75K NS when he joined BTA and promptly attacked Legion members.

All told the Tetris side has added:
NSO - 5 nations
BTA - 2 nations
Tetris - 2 nations
IAA - 0 nations
NsO - 0 nations
Total - 9 nations

I think when you add up the NS totals of when those nations joined the Tetris side has a decided advantage in mercs. Still I don't know what all the arguing is about. All of them are from different alliances so we don't have the mass exodus that Poison Clan pulled during the NEW conflict. There doesn't seem to be any evidence of one side calling in nations either they are just nations using the cover of war to try and get some raids in or they like to fight.

That's true, you could, but then it starts getting overly-complicated and difficult to understand at a glance.

The possible fix I envisioned was basing it on (cumulative loss divided by days since declaration), but then you run into the phenomenon where alliances tend to lose less score as a war drags on (as nation count starts making up a greater amount of alliance score, and damage becomes easier to replace).
