This Week in Pacifica

Why are you all going on and on about tech dealing? The point of this issue of TWiP is not the heartlessness of Pacifica in cutting their smaller nations off the dole, but the expanded tech flow into their larger nations. What's tech good for anyways...

Most new nations would put those slots to no other use if it weren't for tech dealing, so actually the profit is good. And it's approximately 1.4 mill profit, per deal.

150 tech for $3 million, as the NPO does it, is about 1/3rd of that profit if done absolutely perfectly.

The nation's growth would be much, much greater if it was given $15 million up-front and then over 30 days sent out 750 tech to other nations. The Pacific Bank, unfortunately, has not developed the organisational capacity to carry out such advanced deals. Even a year ago when we were arguing the viability of the tech corps there was absolutely nobody willing to compromise on the $3 mil/150 tech deal model, even though it yields so little for the dealer and is an unbelievably low price for the higher nations.

In fact, the percentage of money saved by the big nation is probably dozens of times (depending on the nation size/tech level) the profit that the little one makes. Imagine that.

Anyone remotely competent at tech dealing on an alliance-wide scale can acheive much better growth for the smaller nations than they could solely through aid. Even if you ran at maximum possible efficiency with both systems, the difference for the growing nations is minimal if you are doing it properly, and you increase your overall tech level at the same time.

I'm surprised Pacifica hadn't started doing this earlier. It's far better for the economy as a whole, and that includes the tech sellers.

I don't really know enough about tech dealing to know if it's better for the alliance as a whole, but I have a very hard time believing that's somehow better for the tech sellers to get 3 mill minus what it costs to buy 100 tech than 3 mill.

Edit: *looks up* make that 3 mill minus 150 tech I guess.

Edit again: *looks on next page* Well, whatever the rate is, you get the idea. 3 mill minus any amount of tech is clearly less than 3 mill.

You are incorrect.

You are correct. Vox should fire their spies for not knowing about the tech price change since December.

You see, what's good for the largest nations is good for all of us. The technology wealth will eventually "trickle down" to the common man, ushering in a new era of prosperity. :awesome:

Wait that doesn't even make any sense...

But of course! Massive seizure of technology from the serfs is all that's needed in a trickle down system.

Not that it matters, why anyone should care about Pacifica's tech dealing policies is beyond me.

I remember when TPF had tech circles selling 150 tech/3 mil. We had enough buyers and sellers to have 3-5 circles running at any time. We usually had a few extra sellers as well as well as ones that felt it was more economical to find their own buyers at their own price.

The difference was that the tech circle was guaranteed full slots almost consistently while the other was up to the individual to fill.

I always though it was a good way to build camaraderie and teach new recruits how to work for the good of the alliance. They got money and they helped build the alliance up faster than it would be without their help.

Why do I care? I don't. I just don't like doing actual work.

So Zha'dum is out?

Don't forget poor Chile!

It is material because it directly mirrors they way they treat their allies. Eh, TOP? :ehm:

Did you finally change it? It's still terribly inefficient, then.

Edit: Why do I always do that!?

Without knowing the NPO's current method (or prices) I don't see how you can judge their efficiency.

In IRON all the money and tech is sent out during a single cycle utilizing multiple nations. It is very efficient and I would assume the NPO is using a variation.

But that goes against socialism and all the !@#$% insanity that the NPO believes in!

Logic has finally come to the New Pacific Order... Could this be a new dawn?

Is that why your little nations are forced into the extortionist tech corps to sacrifice their growth to the big nations of the Order, half of whom hit peace mode when a war hits and who are the first ones to be rebuilt when the war ends?

Is it a coincidence that the nations of the Emperor and the IOs are significantly larger than the average? I remember Dilber and Ivan as Emperor having piece of crap nations that they refused to improve because the resources were better spent elsewhere, yet the bank seems to prop up the political elite now. I guess it's a very heavy burden, so much infrastructure.

You have looked at the ages of all the Imperial Officers correct? Older nation means higher NS, that is not that hard to figure out. Do you know how much aid most of our Banks have taken? I know personally, the Nation of Urth has given out upwards around 3/4th of a billion dollars to the Members of New Pacific Order.

You, Sir, know that this bank has given more to the anyone of our members then most people. You should have known not to try and spin the Pacific Bank a heartless organization.
