New CN World Map

I was wondering how receptive people would be to the idea of starting up a new world map; I remember we used to have multiple maps come and go. The map I plan to use is from HOI2, a PI game. I like it because it has predefined territories and so is easier to give alliances a fair representation based on alliance size.

I'd like to follow a formula based on NS; my thought for now is 1 territory on the map per 250K NS your alliance has. If this takes off, it should be fun to watch alliances' territory change as they grow/shrink.

The way alliances would be added is to provide a color in hexadecimal format (#00FFFF) and a general territorial area they want to be placed on. If two alliances want the same area, I think it will either go to the higher NS one, or be shared if possible between them.

Here is a cool link with colors and their respective hexadecimal codes: http://cloford.com/resources/colours/500col.htm

(Hopefully) All alliances that have posted up to this point have been added. If not, either I was not provided enough information (color, location, location if someone else already claimed it, etc), or it was a mistake on my part and I will correct it.

The territory allocation has changed from 200K/territory to 250K/territory, so alliances may notice some downsizing. This was to address concerns that there would be a lack of space--I doubt it will solve the problem in the longer term and it might come down to elimination from the map. But hopefully we will have a nice global war to shrink everyone down a bit.

Due to the new 250K implied lower-limit coming into effect after I had already put some ~200K NS alliances on the map, these 1-territory alliances will be grandfathered in, as long as they stay above the old 200K limit.

With conflicting claims, the way I gave out territories has been pretty arbitrary--sometimes I share if possible, sometimes I just gave the greater NS alliance the claim and moved the other close by. *Ultimately* the highest NS has the final word and can choose to kick alliances out if desired (though through in-game war may be more entertaining :D)
Since the GPA (by this scheme) is entitled to roughly 60 territories, I'll claim Australia, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea.

Edit: And we call #008000 for the color. Nice medium Green. :)

this is all you need really.

but honestly, if you're serious about such a project, I would recommend a scaling system (ie an alliance with x% of all nation strength gets x% of all the map) rather than a static formula.

If I did the math right, with 200k = 1 territory and Polaris having 11,1m NS we can have 55 territories.

That is a good idea; in older maps we just got NS = Total Size, which made wast stretches of empty land as useful as the entirety of Europe, making the map much less satisfying.

Also, being red and having such a strong commie influence, NPO should probably start from European Mother Russia.

Nutty North Koreans, please provide a color :)

Dy Cazaril: I am thinking that small islands will only count as 1/2 a territory.

Another reason I like this map is because it provides more territories to the area where there probably will be more demand, i.e. Europe.

In that case, I believe the following will represent the territory of the Green Protection Agency. It should total to 60 territories: 41 in mainland Australia, and 19 in New Zealand and outlying islands.

I would recommend just assigning the territories yourself. Good luck with this btw.

That was the plan... All I need is a *general* geographical region you wish to be placed in; it seems like people insist on going above and beyond :P And Thanks :D

Regarding the alliance labels--I am thinking sanctioned alliances can get an image (like NpO and GPA just did) and everyone else will have to settle for boring text. If you guys could provide separate image files for the symbols that would be great.

How is it Great Britain is divided 19(?) territories

And New Zealand is only divided into 6 Territories,

Great Britain is only 219,000 km2 in Area while New Zealand is 268,021 km2 in Area

Regardless of the population density of the country this map could be better modified to incorporate more territories for countries,

HOI3 map would be better appropriate with many more territories (well over 10,000), are you aware how many this map holds?
