King DrunkWino
2 December 2008The Random Insanity Alliance's wiles have propelled them past a grand total of six other alliances, and saved them from the dreadful clutches of the Add Line, but one has to wonder: what drugs was the alliance taking to decisively win the alliance race in the lower ranks of the Sanction Race? An investigation is pending, but alliance leaders have refused to comment. As a Triumvir of RIA, I issue the following statement: Ignore the needles in the sink. Also, big props to our newest friend, Barry Bonds. Edited December 4, 2008 by King DrunkWino

While the membership must certainly be happy to have lost the blood-stained prize, I'm a little disappointed, because, let's face it: their flag rocks. The Order of the Paradox is down to 192 members, and replaced their tainted sanction with an alliance-sized Biggest Loser trophy. Their expansive nuclear arsenal will be stored within the cup from here forward. One alliance exceptionally happy to see the return of their sanction is the Grand Global Alliance, who celebrated the day with a modest 0.06 gain and some traditional chocolate cake. At the party, the New Pacific Order took their portion of the feast, and continued eating long after everyone else went home and the Grand Global Alliance locked the doors - one of the chocolate cakes was evidently topped with Nutella. The Sanction Race, as a result of the celebration (or perhaps because of the lack of conflict), was incredibly positive. The Phoenix Federation swept past The Grämlins, stealing the Biggest Gainer prize. Higher in the ranks, the Multicolored Cross-X Alliance and the Mostly Harmless Alliance crossed their 50 and 40 score milestones, today; as of update they're exactly 10 points apart. Echelon leveled off from yesterday's gain, and the Random Insanity Alliance lost a position to The Legion, who are so much more 13.37 than they. As could easily have been expected, the Greenland Republic entered the Sanction Race today, and gained about a million points of score in the process. They've settled in nicely directly below Nueva Vida, and both alliances are safe from the movement of the Add and Drop Lines. Finally, a shoutout to NATO: how many times do I have to tell you? Quit getting cozy with that cactuar, and keep your hands in your pockets! Net Gains By Colour White (+0.38) Blue (+0.33) Red (+0.28) Aqua (+0.25) Green (+0.18) Black (+0.16) Purple (+0.11) Maroon (+0.09) Orange (-0.05) Commentary Orange is the only team to lose score today, as The Order of the Paradox's three-tenths of a point fall pulled the sphere down. White, led by The Phoenix Federation, had the greatest core gain, but given the entry of a new Blue alliance to the Race, and the countless number of points Greenland Republic earned through their merge, I'm inclined to give the color race to Blue today. -------------------- Related Links: Stats by Unspeakable Evil Lord Sharpe's MDP Web Vote for Cybernations Daily! Mykelemagne
CommentaryOrange is the only team to lose score today, as The Order of the Paradox's three-tenths of a point fall pulled the sphere down. White, led by The Phoenix Federation, had the greatest core gain, but given the entry of a new Blue alliance to the Race, and the countless number of points Greenland Republic earned through their merge, I'm inclined to give the color race to Blue today. This has gotten me thinking about the nature of the sphere portion of the daily update. While we're certainly glad to be helping white grab the top spot today, many spheres really are better represented in the sanction race and are therefore more likely to have a good day in this stat. Sure, blue or aqua are also technically vulnerable to have greater swings downward as well if all alliances of a sphere do poorly that day, but like a diversified investment portfolio, they have greater protection against losses in general. I'm no math guru (and I give my humblest thanks for the great work of those that update the race) but wouldn't some sort of mean, weighted average, or a standardized index give a better picture of how the top alliances in the sphere are doing? If you find this to be a silly request, feel free to shout me down, I was just hoping some math whiz out there would find it interesting to explore.
