ATTN Buyers: Tech Bonanza

Hey all you 3/50 jackasses I tricked into opening this blog: Stop jerking the market around with 3/50 deals, morons. What, you think people will stop selling tech if they stop getting the tiny bit of extra money? Your inflation isn't going to create more sellers, so you're still screwed, meanwhile you're clogging everything up and slowing down the delivery of what is available.

Actually, it's more than 135% extra for sellers who sell at the 3/50 rate, so it's a bit more than a "tiny bit of extra money".

Also, we'll buy at whatever price we like, thanks ;)

3/50 has less to do with encouraging more people to sell, its about better odds of convincing people to sell to you.

If you offer 3/100, somebody else offers 3/50, which offer do you think they'll take? Somebody wanted it bad enough to take that first step, everybody else falls in line to stay competitive.

3/100 is a fair ~50% profit; people shouldn't be expecting more unless there's some special connection, like being in the same alliance, friends, etc. Of course nothing should stop sellers from accepting such deals as they can get them, but expecting is another matter. I'm not opposed to offering 3/50, but when a seller demands it I'll just pass them by.

I make a habit of buying at 3/50 from people in my own alliance, 3/100 from people outside. Increasing the profit of people in my own alliance doubles as extra development aid for those people, so what the hell.

It also encourages our own sellers to do more of their deals internally, rather than externally, thus satisfying our tech needs as an alliance.

In this blog, Schattenman, the voice of freedom throughout planet Bob, sides againt a free economy. The market is driven by supply/demand. Tech sellers are harder and harder to come by nowadays, and the long time buyers are too lazy to do the footwork associated with finding them. Hence, it is a sellers market. They cant $3mil/50. There is literally no shortage of buyers at that price, I say more power to them.

Tech sellers are not hard to come by as long as you're not an inactive piece of !@#$. Look at other alliance member aid slots and you're bound to find 5-6 sellers. It isn't hard.

I hold the same philosophy with trades. If you won't find them yourself then suffer the consequences.

It's 1.5m for the cost of a person's aid slot for an entire month.

$18m a year is not much profit....

The freedoms championed by me personally or as a founder/Senator in Vox haven't got anything to do with lazy buyers' bad habits. Are they free to wreck a market? Sure. Are they idiots? Entirely.

If people stop offering to pay $3m for a paltry 50, then sellers will sell at 3/100. There's no "free market" argument to be had, this is cyberbuttes, supply is not connected to price.

What a riot. A seller using all 5 slots (which is not a chore) is not making $18m a year, he's making $90m. The use of the slots is not a cost that requires compensation anyway, a selling sized nation has no use for the slots, and there is no inventory cost for the tech--the buyer is covering that. $18m per deal is an astronomical return on 0. What's more, buyers and sellers with brains will utilize 3x3s which tie up not 30 days, but 10 while leaving room for 2 more side 1-on-1s, giving them just as much profit with less hassle.

With 0 cost, its not even correctly called "profit." It's $90m extra free money per year.

I look forward to the the growth of the 6M/50T tech market.

Look, tech deal inflation favours the oldest and largest nations. The guys who already have 10K tech or higher do not want other nations to catch up; by encouraging people to deal at 3M/50T they make it harder for smaller nations to catch up in tech. It's that simple.

Well will you look at that, it's a Schattenmann post I totally agree with. Offering people $3m/50 is cutting off your nose to spite your face, because the nation will grow out of selling range far faster, decreasing the supply, as well as reducing your import rate by 25% (200 tech/cycle at full usage 3/100, 150 at full usage 3/50).

bwah?

Also even though I shoot for 3/100, this blog entry and my laziness makes me want to go out and bring in a bunch of 3/50 deals.

The supply of available techsellers is not effected by the price of tech. The supply of available techsellers is determined by the number of new nations. If everyone stops buying tech tomorrow, the number of techsellers will not be effected; if everyone started paying $3m for 2 tech tomorrow, the number of techsellers will not be effected. If short-sighted people get smart tomorrow and everyone begins insisting only on 3/100, there will be a temporary reluctance to sell at that level by sellers, but their number will not be effected and if they want free money, they will sell at 3/100.

Everyone complains larger nations keep getting larger and small nations have no chance of catching up. Fact is the 3mil/50tech is one of the only things smaller nations can exploit and turn into an advantage to try and at least grow quicker.

That's not what I'm saying - you've misunderstood me backwards. The price of tech is affected by the supply of available techsellers. If it's hard to find 3/100 deals (IE, a low number of new nations or sellers working for 3/100) then price of tech goes up because tech buyers are going to buy tech one way or another and will be willing to pay 3/50.

Exactly!

And that is normal market fluctuation. Current PB economics are obviously making it feasible for the Third World nations to demand 3/50 deals of industrialized nations who have turned their farmlands into factories. Industrialized nations can do one of two things:

A: Gripe about it

B: PB being rather infinite space >>> Encourage the opening of new farmlands. That does not mean leaving alliance recruitment functions to low mid-level bureaucrats and rote form letters. When I quietly began this new nation I let it sit a day or three and received over 20 form letters. And of those, only one alliance had my name in the salutation. I find it telling. Further it would be incumbent upon those who wish to dilute supply side power to promote initial settlement as well as making sure that new disconnected nations are quickly brought into the fold and up to speed. Otherwise tech-hungry nations will be paying on 3/50s and their suppliers may well gain upper hand.

But PB is lucky because "Tech" is not finite as on earth where nations need Tantalum, Niobium, Petroleum, Zinc, Uranium; etc. to make the "technology"

There is an alternative to a lack of techsellers, it's on that menu thing to the left, it becomes a rational choice at some point unknown to me, I suspect the point is somewhere north of 10k infra.
