This Week in Pacifica

NPO1.jpg

Good evening, and welcome to the first installment of This Week in Pacifica; I'm your host, Schattenmann. The premise of this program is simple: To provide you, the people, with interesting, important, or just fun information about Bob's centerpiece, Pacifica. As she goes, so goes the world. So, let's dive into it--here's TWiP!

This week Pacifica saw more than a few interesting topics, among them the cancellation of all non-military aid (following the wholesale scrapping of the Joint Council-Bank Project) and efforts to dissuade its major ally, MHA, from creating a new "Mega MDP Bloc."

Cancellation of AID:

On January 29th, Comrade Applesauce announced an ambitious bailout for NPO nations--the Bank and Council's Joint Aid Project. Billions were marked for release raising hopes of Pacificans that they might finally eat again.

However, this week on 4 Feb, Comrade Lord Strider announced that

From this day onwards, a new era dawns for the bank, and for the entirety of our alliance . . . The Department of Aid will cease to give out money for national growth projects. Instead, it will be retooled and will now exclusively focus on Military aid logistics. You will no longer be able to make aid requests for non-military reasons . . . Rightfully, many of you will wonder what alternative we will offer for small nation growth, which is still vital to the future of Pacifica. All small nations looking for growth are strongly encouraged to join the tech corps

He ended his announcement with the further proclamation:

During this process, most banking department are closed for retooling. At the same time, all current and future projects are terminated. This includes the joint bank-council project. Anybody who was expecting aid as part of one of these schemes should bear in mind that they have now been terminated. They are advised to turn to alternative sources of finance. Much love.

For rulers of larger Pacifican nations, this will bring them into a new era of prosperity as smaller and newer member nations will now be scrambling to fill the hole left by this cancellation with rampant tech-selling. With Pacifia's trades in a state of what most outside analysts describe as woefully incomplete and chaotic, these small nations will be left to spend their small tech profits on infrastructure, the price of which is astronomically inflated without Construction, Asphalt, and Steel.

We here at TWiP wish these small nations the best of luck in competing with tech-selling nations in Agora and Pacifica's other tech-dealing partners.

With the Pacific still lightyears behind other regions' wheat production, small member nations can also expect continuing food shortages and lengthening breadlines. Beer is just this side of unavailbale to all but the largest or oldest member nations.

Backlash:

While most kept their loyal tongues firmly behind their teeth, some expressed disapproval of this move by the Bank. Chief among concerns were the effects on small nations, those looking forward to growth, and the apparent abondoning of nations who have taken the brunt of Pacifican aggressive military operations against Vox Populi as experienced warriors come into range of new leaders as well as defending apathetic, non-Francoist unaligned Red nations from techraiders.

In response, Council member Comrade Brehon had only this to say: Too many assumptions, too much rebel without a pause. The System is your home . . . Remember that.

The Pacifican Military go involved with Battalion Lieutenant Jesse End warning: "'Questioning' with an attitude like you were will get you nowhere"

And, finally, Imperial Officer of the Bank Lord Strider brushed off concerns thus: "You are funny, I was laughing my $@! off reading your [concerns]"

Diplomatic Calamity

This week in Francograd's dimplomatic quarter Pacifican agents were left scrambling to maintain Pacifica's hold on one of her oldest ally's neck after it was found that MHA has been leading talks to form what it describes as a "new mega MDP bloc"--Bastion.

As you'll all recall, it was just last that year MHA signed a treaty with no cancellation clause with Pacifica, but since then MHA seems to have developed a sense of its own self. A program note, our sleazier counterpart, The Tattler, has released many of the names that we have chosen to redact to protect the integrity of parties in talks.

MHA's longstanding policy of disinterest in conflict, though not pacifism, has meant that in the past Pacifica could easily control this loyal and longstanding ally. But it seems that in these days of the shrinking Continuum and watered-down One Vision, that many alliances are coming to the conclusion that they can stand on their own two legs.

At the very least, MHA's triumvirate has apparently kicked the question back to its member nations. We can only hope that they will take a long, hard look at their past, their hopes, and their future.

We are happy to please.

For This Week in Pacifica, I'm Schattenmann.

[OOC]edit, to stop the PMs and queries: Yes, all quotes and screenshots in this post are 100% bona fide primary material. Where it would have been too cumbersome to post an actual screenshot, I used quotes. Anything in quatation marks is word-for-word from a screenshot. Elipses (. . .) denote where text was skipped.

If you guys would just let things develop instead of spying and making this stuff public we'd be seeing a lot more wars. As ES said, now that you guys have said what you did it's likely to never happen.

No Soldiers below Chancellor post in this thread.

The Tattler and TWiP, while sharing common produiction, are separate entities with their own editorial styles. Thank you for your viewer feedback.

^THIS^

If people are too afraid to go forward with Bastion now that it's revealed, then they were going to be too afraid to honor it to begin with.

I found that informative while not actually learning anything new.

Interesting anyway.

You, too, have sources within Pacifica?
