Practical Ethics: Casus Belli

This entry of Practical Ethics will be about casus belli, or CBs. More specifically it will be about whether it is ethically permissible to have no casus belli when going to war. For any that do not already know, casus belli is a latin phrase meaning the reason for war. It is the justification used by one party when making war against another party. Casus belli have a long tradition on our world, going back to the first ever war fought amongst alliances, but tradition does not make something

Money and Flow of Money

College and work has soaked up my time lately. This entry is going to be a rather short one. After this, I will bring the three previous entries together and bring us to a specific area where I want to develop. Enjoy! Money and Flow of Money The final important and most basic principle we need to visit is the concept of money and the flow of money in the economy. Once that is set up we can finally start diving into the wonderful answers and reasoning behind scarcity. Before we g

Division of Labor

Division of Labor In order to answer the question of scarcity, we need to bring in a couple more basic ideas. The first of these shall be Division of Labor. Currently, Economic Historians are debating on whether or not Division of Labor came first or the usage of money. Both play a crucial role into how people answer scarcity and how the answers will be developed. So what is Division of Labor? Division of Labor is the concentration of large numbers of workers within very large pro

Law of Scarcity

Before I go into some material, please be aware that all laws have been challenged due to the Great Recession. The entire field of economics is now trying to fix the problems and figure out some problems in our formulas. In all my entries, I will try to make law into "law" in order to represent the current situation in the field of economics. Thank you and enjoy! Law of Scarcity The Law of Scarcity is the most basic and yet most crucial “law” in economic theory. This “law” is the basis f

A smartish blog begins???

Welcome to my humble little blog. Before I start actually going around and posting what I want to do with this blog, I figured I would come over and introduce myself. I'm Karl Peters and I am the Minister of Economics for R&R. I have been in and out of the game since '07, traveled many alliances, and held different positions from time to time. I have had this current nation for a year and a half, and been with the Ampersand for the entire time. Do I have any interesting stories? Of course, b

From MI6, With Love

Welcome to "For Your Eyes Only", a premier blog about all things MI6. You may be thinking this will be a blog about the internal workings of MI6, and that's partially true. Don't get your hopes up, I won't be divulging any secrets, we are spies after all. What you'll read instead are different views of everyday life in MI6. This mostly consists of inconsequential topics of discussion, such as the ideal color of grass and what kind of cat food we feed our furry little mousers. I will be taking p

Practical Ethics: Poaching

This part of a new series called Practical Ethics, which will be about the ethics of affairs across the Cyberverse. This entry will be on poaching, which for the purposes of this article is defined as soliciting a member of a foreign alliance to join your alliance without that alliance's explicit permission to do so. The question is whether this is ethically permissible. This is actually a rather complicated question because for many the gut reaction is to say no, but it brings up issues of c

Wow So Meta: The !@#$%^& Effect

The Web is a curious place. A land populated chiefly by cats and porn stars is also a land that helps to overthrow governments, spread awareness of important social and societal issues, and ensure that nobody has less than 200 "friends". It is also the land of text. For as much as some decry CN as outdated for its entirely text-based appearance and game play, the vast majority of communication on the web takes the form of text. Written language reigns supreme in the realm of interconnected m

A Brief Note from the Editor

This article is best read while listening to this .La Vangardia Pacifica would like to thank regular readers for their patience during its prolonged hiatus, and can now confirm that production will resume in the near future. By way of apology for the unexpected interruption we we would like to offer readers a free copy of the December 2008 publication Letters of Pacifica. Within its cover readers will find the foundation of many of the intellectual and historical ideas that informed the Ord

It begins. I'm only doing alliances I think about until the moment this escapes my attention (so five seconds) NPO: Vader. I've never been a big Vader fan....well, wait. Nobody's a huge Vader fan. But most can acknowledge his accomplishments and the fact that one time he popped his eye back into socket mid-match. Yeah, that happened. The main reason I picked Vader for NPO, though, is I thought "who is deceptively quick for their size" and immediately thought "the guy who was really similar to a

Introduction and first question (Chess)

Hello, one of my many jobs in the real world is teaching elementary and middle school students the joy of chess. This blog is for some assistance in teaching my students with some friendly input. Please, keep this serious and not include CN drama. I believe Chess is a great and amazing game that really does help some students preform better and even assists students with certain mental and social issues become more integrated. Crushed

Here's another short story from me, it's called "Crushed". Crushed It’s a late night. The TV is running. I sit in the middle of the sofa, while she sits to the left of me. There is a silence, and then she puts her feet on my lap. Those legs… Those brown, silky, long legs. I find myself resisting the urge to kiss and lick them, as if they were Fudgesicles. Trying to fight this feeling is futile. Maybe I should give into temptation just this once.

Wow So Meta: Dead or Dying

It almost seems like the OWF is made up entirely of straw men. Is this the way it has to be? Rational argumentation should have a prominent place here. Why? Some may say arguing a point logically is boring, but to those that say that I say "You must never have studied philosophy." Rational arguments are chess matches, they require finesse, they require strategy. In other words, they're difficult. I know it's easier to eat the chips rather than the eggs or chicken, but the chips aren't wor

The World That Ye Hath Created: A Study in Irony

DBDC has many relationships with many alliances, many of which have significant upper tiers. The alliances best in a position to destroy DBDC are also unlikely to do so because of these connections. However they all have something in common: most view DBDC as a partner of necessity to keep their upper tiers safe so they can focus on other threats and keep aid flowing. However, they all share a common interest, being significant upper tier forces, in preventing DBDC from becoming too much to m

6 Years

After glancing at the wiki with the intent of updating the forum link, I realized that it's been 6 years and a month since I started playing. There's been so many great times that I can barely remember them all. Despite all the doomsaying, the sea of !@#$%*ing, complaining, and butthurt, (or perhaps, sometimes, because of it) this has been a great community. Thanks to everyone for being your awesome selves!

Great Song I Just Found

Any Hip-Hop fans out there will appreciate this. Last night, I found a song by 2Pac called Runnin' From the Police. It features the Outlawz, Biggie, Stretch, and Buju Banton. It was recorded in 1994. It's significant, and almost scary/creepy/weird to listen to, because it is the only known collaboration between 2Pac and Biggie while they were alive. Nonetheless, it's a really good song. The beat is amazing, and everyone in it had good verses. Three of the Outlawz dropped the first three verses,

Wasted

Here is a short story I just wrote called "Wasted". Wasted By: George Gordy I’m wasted. No, not wasted as in drunk or high. I mean wasted as in my entire life, thus far, has been a waste. I’ve wasted so many opportunities to do better out of selfishness and stupidity. My mistakes have caught up with me, and I don’t see the point of doing this whole life thing anymore. Should I end it all, right here in this bedroom? Should I put my loved ones through the shock and horr
