No one truly knew what direction Viniland was going to take. In an unique twist of fate, the nation was almost evenly split between the ruling Partito Libertario (Libertarian Party), led by incumbent Prime Minister Pasquale Bianchi and the People's Republican Party (People's Republican Party (essentially Socialist)), led by Helô Silveira. Although the Vinilandese traditionally favored laissez-faire and limited government many of the country's corporations were actively engaged in criminal activities which disturbed the public peace and at times claimed innocent lives, and the Libertarians did little to solve the problem. Increased government participation seemed to be the only solution, and the PRP offered it. But plenty of Vinilandese were not ready to give up freedom for security - hence the split. Whatever result the election yielded, it would be a surprise.

But history would never have the opportunity to share the winner's name, for there would be none.

On E-Day, five minutes before any citizen could go to the ballots and cast their votes, a mysterious TV announcement blew the nation away:

"Good morning, Viniland! Our men and women have no name, but we thought we'd let all of you know we have just seized control of ten nuclear silos across the country!

All we ask is that no one goes voting today, or all major cities, from Nanaimo to Recife, will be little more than a wasteland. We will launch if we think the Army is trying to get us - and trust us, we have means of knowing if someone's outside of the silos. Out."

As if that was not enough, a minute later, someone else invaded the airwaves:

"Haha! We are the Socialist Revolutionaries, and we are under control of all of the silos the corporate scums have not seized! With our nukes, we will destroy them! We will make all corporate headquarters burn in a fiery blaze of hell!"

Indeed, five nuclear warheads flied towards Calgari, Nadrink, Recife, Nanaimo and Kelowna - all renowned centers of Vinilandese Capitalism. Unfortunately for the nutters, the country's Strategic Defense Initiative was good enough to stop them before they could near their targets and were neutralized. Thus, the Revolutionaries possessed ten warheads - so did the mysterious figures, apparently working for corporations - although such would never be confirmed.

Given the SDI was not flawless, no Vinilandese took the chance to cast their votes - the polling stations were closed, either way. And thus E-Day went by and nothing happened - although the nuclear silos were still under radical control. It was a blunder the Vinilandese Army could not explain, other than the radicals must have been long-time sleepers and were waiting for an opportunity to take over the silos. For fear of large-scale civilian casualties, no one took any action to defuse the situation - except the Vinilandese Intelligency Agency who owned fail-safe computers that were remotely connected to the warheads and could shut them down. Yet, for some unknown reason they could not access the missiles, indicating the radicals must've somehow tampered with the system.

Instead of having to put up with the fear of being blown up, Pasquale Bianchi requested the whole of the out-of-control country to be made into a Tahoan protectorate. What most Vinilandese did within the upcoming weeks was to move elsewhere - overwhelmingly, the chosen destination was Tahoe - although out of the some 30 million migrants, some 100,000 Italophones would cross the Pacific towards the Italian Peninsula. Very few would stay behind - including those who had seized the silos - who would remain where they were for quite a while.

OOC: Lame ending, I know, but RL has called and it'll keep me occupied for a while. I don't want to have an RP nation taking up so much room so Viniland is now a Tahoe Protectorate.

Once the country was declared a Tahoe protectorate, Arctica Motor Works and Nibos Beer Company pulled out all their assets from Viniland.

The Kingdom of Cochin expresses shock and sorrow at the sudden collapse of Viniland one of the most strongest and technologically advanced nation on the planet. The Kingdom shall welcome any Viniland citizen seeking asylum and hopes that Tahoe would prove itself a worthy protector of Viniland and its people.

OOC: Well, it's temporary - as in, several months. My nation is going to be sat during my leave of absence. I may come back around April but I can't guarantee that - depends on how busy I'll be then.

The news came to Lillia Palace late in the night, Hannah had just gotten ready to head to bed for the night when the knock came on the door of her quarters. Her chamberlain Loew walked in slowly with a white note in his hands and laid it gently on the table. Hearing the sounds of his entrance, Hannah opened the door of her bedroom and looked into the room where Loew stood, he had a sad look on his face and her eyes narrowed. "Loew, what is it? It's so late."

"I'm sorry Highness, but this is extremely important. Viniland..." He paused. "Viniland has come under an anarchic based attack. The country...the country has collapsed."

Hannah lept from her room and grabbed the note. "Collapsed? The entire country. Its not possible." But as her eyes read the words on the paper, everything was far too true. "No...It...can't end like that for them." Her knees gave way as she fell against the table, tears forming in her eyes as probably the greatest country on Earth perished with no more than a good-bye.

The next day, with a solemn face, Hannah addressed the Australian people of the attack.

My Subjects,

There is no doubt that you have heard the horrible news of what has befallen the people of Viniland. This cowardly attack has destroyed probably what I have learned to be the greatest nation on Earth and with them goes my hopes of a more peaceful world. There is no greater time then that we must band together for the help of these people and as such, Australia will be donating as much as possible for the aid of the Vinilandese population, if you need relief, transportation, anything, we will be there and you can count on us. Terror and chaos has not left the planet, but we will fight it when we can and perhaps this horrible event will never happen again. Thank you.

A public day of mourning as a result of the collapse of the greatest nation in the Americas has been mandated across the Northern Republic. Citizens of the Republic have always viewed Viniland as the benevolent powerhouse in America, never using their tremendous power for ill purposes. This is a loss not only for the Americas, but for the world and we are saddened to see this happen.

Tahoan border crossings were overwhelmed as cars and trucks were backed up for miles. The Tahoan Border Guard abandoned all attempts to check the flood of refugees and instead directed them to massive aid stations and camps being set up by the Tahoan Red Cross and Church.

The Tahoan Government is setting up camps along border regions inside Tahoe and Viniland and attempted to restore order to cities wracked with looting and riots as police and local government collapse to protect their own families.

In some areas Tahoan soldiers are moving into Viniland to take control of military bases to prevent the weapons from falling into the hands of the rebels. A massive strike against the silos still containing warheads is planned to neutralize them.

In the upcoming months the future of Viniland will be discussed and formed into territories and protectorates.

"Aw, crap." was the first thing Disparuean Chancellor Cynthia Celeste said as soon as the news about the fall of Viniland reached her ears. "Now that Viniland has fallen, we'll have to deal with a less friendlier nation. Oh well, hopefully things will go okay." she continued.

Marshal Hammond shook his head sadly as he explained further. "However, this also means that, on many issues, Tahoe is going to be alone. The American Hegemony, cracked by the collapse of Pravus Ingruo, continues to fracture."

Hammond closed his eyes. "Please do not think I feel no sympathy for those who have suffered loss from this. However, it is my job to tactically analyze everything that could affect the security of ourselves or our alies."

The general reaction was one of outright disbelief. One of the few nations that had been around longer than themselves--gone?

Few thought of the tactical implications--Viniland had possessed a great deal of respect in many circles.
