  1. Nearly 50 Tesla SPF 25 MW Solar Power Satellites have been launched over the past three weeks by CSRO using its fleet of Skylon Orbital Transfer Vehicles, The Tesla SPS Satellites which had once been a vital part of the Kingdom's power grid would now serve as vital resources to power the space infrastructure that CSRO would be building. Meanwhile the fleet of Pushpak and Advanced Pushpak Space shuttles are also deployed to rebuild the first of four Orbital Refuelling Stations. The CSS Ors A is being constructed at LEO orbit of 200 kms. This being the first major scale EVA project CSRO is doing in several decades extreme care is being done in the project. With the successful completion and validation of the CSS Ors A construction the subsequent ORS projects are expected to go through much more smoothly and fast. While the components for the launch of the remaining three Orbital Refueling Station are in the final stages of completion the fabrication of Space Dock Bhrigu is also starting at the various CSRO Fabrication facilities. The 55000 Tonne Space Dock would be a massive logistical challenge for CSRO to launch and with the loss of Equatorial Launch Loop CSRO is exploring alternate facilities for the massive launch operation. Meanwhile however CSRO has a regimented plan to launch a fleet of 10 GAL Space Tugs to facilitate the heavier logistics requirements in space.
  2. We are certainly interested in the rest of the treaty as it concerns not just the defense of the Kingdom but the entire continent of Asia.
  3. At the moment the Kingdom does not have any request. We do not seek any territory from Tianxia. We shall continue to be friends in the hope it shall one day become a greater partnership. OOC: No harm done, such are the nuances of diplomatic language after all ;)
  4. We hardly spoke any words of anger. We were just expressing our understanding of the situation we have with Tianxia. We never claimed to speak for the people of Sri Lanka nor did we speak of any referendums being held, we were expressing our hopes that a referendum may be held, a hope that we now dash. Please understand there is no anger towards Tianxia, just a resigned understanding of the situation. While we appreciate your generosity in light of the way these talks panned out it would not make sense for our nation to seek any territorial concessions from Tianxia. It saddens us to see that you consider our actions as unfriendly for we mean no such thing. We hoped through these negotiations for a means for improving our strategic security as well as sub continental cultural integrity. You dismissed our requests by stating your very valid arguments and we respect that. We hold no ill will towards Tianxia just renewed understanding of the ground realities.
  5. "That certainly is disappointing but perhaps if you conducted a referendum in Ceylon perhaps they may choose to join back into the Kingdom. We understand and respect your constitutional and parliamentary proceedings but we hope that a chance may be taken in this aspect. Perhaps the citizens of Ceylon may wish to be part of the Kingdom if such a question is asked of them. If they willingly choose to be part of the Kingdom would you deny them? We are most certainly disappointed at the way the territorial negotiations have panned out. We hoped Tianxia would be as sympathetic and understanding of our strategic and cultural sensitivities as we have tried to be towards Tianxia. Alas, it turned out different. The Kingdom would not demean itself by stooping to beg Tianxia for territory that it has legitimate claims on so we believe that ought to be the end of these discussions. We do not want territories that are thrown at us as scraps. You may keep the Lakshadweep as well as the Balochistani territories of erstwhile Pakistan."
  6. On further reflection we have decided not to press for the Foamullah Island. We would be happy to reunite historical Pakistan in Cochin. In that case the only contentious issue remains Ceylon. Would Tianxia be willing to reconsider regarding Ceylon?
  7. Ah! Hmm, might as well shelve the plans for launch loop then, not worth the bother. Next try for Star Tram :)
  8. The launch loop that we had built only had its Eastern end at Foamullah Island, the western end is an artificial island we had constructed west of Foamullah island in the ocean. As regards Ceylon, we hope you can reconsider your stand. Reuniting it with Kingdom would be a great boost to our territorial integrity as well as reuniting of two regions with thousands of years of shared culture and traditions.
  9. I think Tianxia has misunderstood our request. We assume that the Tianxian space elevator is a separate entity from our Launch Loop based on Foamullah Island. There is no reason why the Cochin Launch Loop should not operate alongside the Tianxian space elevator. We do not seek sovereign control over Maldives, just control over Foamullah Island so that we can operate our Launch loop. Since Tianxia is willing to cede to us territory that is nearer to the subcontinent I hope Tianxia would not object to Cochin taking over Ceylon? The historic relations and cultural links between Ceylon and subcontinent ought to strengthen our claim on the island. And while we understand the importance the Indian Ocean holds to Tianxia strategically and economically we hope you would understand the similar historical claims we have to the Ocean. It is not in Cochin interests to compromise on your security or economy, we dont intend to compete with you in the Indian Ocean but to partner with you. Surely the presence of Cochin power would only boost the Tianxian strategic security?
  10. While we agree to the proposal regarding the Tibetan region we would like to explain further our request for Maldives, especially Foamullah Island. The Equatorial Launch Loop that we had built was based there and Foamullah Island was a principal Space Launch Center of the Kingdom. The ELL especially had been one of the most significant investments the Kingdom had done in the region and it is disappointing that we would not be permitted to rejuvenate it. Would Tianxia recommend and offer any comparable equatorial region where we can build our launch loop which is vital in our nation's space ambitions? We are grateful that you can offer us Lakshadweep but we would reiterate our request for Ceylon at the least and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. As regards historical Pakistan, thanks to Tianxia we have already integrated into our territory the core South Asian regions of Pakistan, namely the Sindh and Punjab provinces. While we would not refuse the ceding of the rest of Pakistan to the Kingdom it would not compare with the strategic and national importance that reuniting the vital islandic territories would be for our national future. Even the claim for the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago could be cancelled if the other major islandic claims could be granted.
  11. "Thank you, Emperor Jia. The Kingdom's primary interests lies in reclaiming some of our historical island territories. These includes the Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Ceylon and the Maldives. Due to the shared history and common cultures between us as also due to geographic and strategic constraints we would seek to negotiate regarding these islands. We also hope to reclaim the Burang and Zanda counties in the Ngari Prefecture of Tibet and the states of Nepal, Sikkim and Bhutan. Our interest in these lands lies primarily because of their religious importance in that the Mt Kailas and the twin lakes Manasarovar and Rakshasasarovar exist in this region. We also propose that the Trans Himalayan Railroads that we had built and maintained prior to the fall of the previous Kingdom be reopened to usher in a new era of Pan Asian trade and communication. We are also looking forward to reopening our former Antarctic research station at Station Gangotri. The territory currently seems to be under Tianxian jurisdiction. The research station housed some of our most prized research centers and we hope that we be allowed to reclaim and activate the region.
  12. "Ladies and Gentlemen, we have achieved much in the past few years and much more we have to achieve. It was a long path of progress for the first Kingdom to achieve its space infrastructure but we can beat them now. We have the infrastructure, we have the know how so my friends let us kick start CSRO's future," Dr. Govindan Menon spoke to the conference room in Trivandrum. These were the CSRO's space facilities before the fall of the Kingdom: Trisanku Space Station and Annex (MEO) - CSS Trisanku Dhruva Biosphere Facility (MEO) - CSS Dhruva Ashwini Research Center (GEO) - CSS Ashwini Bhrigu Space Dock (LEO) - CSS Bhrigu Orbital Refueling Station A (LEO) - CSS Ors A Orbital Refueling Station B (LEO) - CSS Ors B Orbital Refueling Station C (LEO) - CSS Ors C Orbital Refueling Station D (LEO) - CSS Ors D After the fall of the Kingdom these were occupied by Ceylon and later lost to the tides of history. Over the past few years we have embarked on an accelerated manufacturing process to rebuild these infrastructure in record time. The first component in this endeavor is of course to rebuild our launching facilities. Apart from SLC Thumba here in Trivandrum there is also the SLC Sriharikota, SLC Ahmedabad and SLC Ranchi. We no longer have SLC Dagring, our principal SLC in the olden days or SLC Urumqi. In their place two new SLCs are now in the process of building, SLC Bhuj and SLC Leh. The government has also assured us that it would be trying to get back the Maldives which would ensure we get the SLC Foamullah and the associated Equatorial Launch Loop. However we cant wait for the Foreign Office boffins to start our work. So let us race on. We currently have rebuilt a fleet of launch vehicles which would be sufficient until the ELL is rebuilt. This is our fleet right now: Skylon Orbital Transfer Vehicle: 30 Skylon Intelligence Platform: 5 Pushpak Space Shuttle Mark 1 : 5 Advanced Pushpak Space Shuttle : 20 GAL Skylark : 20 Let us convey our heartfelt thanks to our aerospace industry who rose so magnificently to the challenge of rebuilding our space faring fleet. We have already launched several missions so far but over the coming years we shall be doing an aggressive rebuilding program. Our goal is that over the next 5 years we rebuild our complete space infrastructure to match what we had in the previous Kingdom. To do that however we would have to plan things better. Our first target is to launch the four Orbital Refueling Stations, CSS ORS-A, ORS-B, ORS-C and ORS-D. After that we shall build the Bhrigu Space Dock. Then the new Trisanku Space Station, the Dhruva Biosphere Facility and finally our dream goal, the Ashwini Research Center. While this is done we shall also rebuild the Cochin Lunar Station Chandra. And then we shall truly spread our reach to even more ambitious programs. My friends, so let us work together and make our dreams into reality.
  13. The convoy of trucks had roared past Rohru with tight security. The single lane road turning off the NH 72B towards Rohru in Himachal Pradesh is under the tightest security. Over the past 48 hours camouflaged BTR99 had been deployed to the region under the cover of darkness to provide security for the convoy that would come. A squadron of LCH Piranha Attack Helicopters had also flown in and had split into squads along the route. They too were now hidden behind the peaks along the route waiting to provide fire support. Above them a flight of 4 Jadayu Mark 4s are also loitering at high altitude to provide cover with the rest of its squadron at ready status at FAB Shimla. The Royal Cochin Defense Forces is taking no chances. The movement of these military units and also the convoy had been planned with great care to ensure the lowest satellite surveillance over the region. As the convoy slowly snaked its way through the rough mountain roads it finally entered the mouth of a giant manmade tunnel. The secretive base had been reopened recently albeit only for a short time as the recent events dictated. Over the next few years the Strategic Command personnel at the base moved the cargo that had been brought over by the convoy. Nearly the entire Nuclear arsenal of the Kingdom of Cochin, especially the warheads of the Strategic Artillery Corps had been brought here for storage. With the SAC all but disbanded with its principal tasking cancelled by the Royal order the nuclear warheads controlled by Strategic Command are now being mothballed. After the entire cargo had been stowed away the final evacuation siren had been rung and entire personnel started moving towards the trucks in which they would leave the base. As the convoy left the newest team of engineers working on the base also started their final taskings. To seal the internal chamber completely the nearly 2 kilometer long tunnel from entrance to the storage base would be filled with concrete. The Strategic Engineers Corps personnel would ensure that only the Kingdom shall be able to access these resources ever again. Similar scenes are replicated in smaller scales in other parts of the Kingdom as secret Nuclear Weapons fabrication facilities are being mothballed. In all cases the personnel are evacuated, the equipment stored away with extreme care and the base itself sealed off. By the end of the week as all the bases would become closed the Kingdom of Cochin would once again become a non nuclear nation, voluntarily.
  14. Nuclear Disarmament Policy The Kingdom of Cochin hereby proclaims that it shall cease its nuclear weapons programs. The Kingdom shall cease further production of nuclear weapons and shall also dismantle our existing nuclear arsenal in compliance with Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty and Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty . The Kingdom's Strategic Rocket Forces shall hitherto be disbanded. All strategic nuclear delivery systems would hitherto be converted to conventional munitions capabilities. The Kingdom of Cochin proclaims to the world its commitment to Total Nuclear Disarmament. In the eventuality of the Kingdom being subjected to a nuclear attack the perpetrator would be subjected to a Total Conventional War waged with full strength of the Kingdom.
  15. The public policy of the Kingdom shall be complete nuclear disarmament. The codicil about our cold start capability shall remain a secret confined only to the top echelons of our Government and Defense Forces. We shall fully cooperate in the effort towards complete nuclear disarmament. With that agreed upon should we discuss the matters of pending territorial reorganization now or would Tianxia prefer that to be discussed at a later stage?
  16. In compliance with the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty and Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty the Kingdom of Cochin shall hitherto cease its Nuclear weapons program and shall dismantle its existing arsenal. However we shall maintain our weapons production facilities as an insurance that in the worst case scenario of the Kingdom being attacked by nuclear weapons we shall be able to start rebuild our stockpile for retaliation. The Kingdom shall not deny itself the ability to produce nuclear weapons. It shall maintain its nuclear state permanently as six months away from being a full nuclear power. Since the Kingdom of Cochin though has been refounded was originally a nuclear powered state we hope this self imposed restriction would be sufficient for our compliance?
  17. OOC: Actually no, I did not know that. So are there any nuclear powers at all out there? If no, say that IC and I would ICly concur with no nukes.
  18. National Self Defense Law The Kingdom of Cochin hereby declares that every citizen shall henceforth have the right to bear arms as a tool for self defense. The Firearms Law of the Kingdom is hereby modified. These are the main points of the law. 1. Every citizen has the right to bear a Government approved firearm 2. The Kingdom announces a National Gun Buyback policy wherein citizens would be given fair market value compensation for any existing firearms that they may hold in their position. The citizen then may choose to buy firearms from approved List of Firearms. 3. Private and public ordinance and firearms industries are permitted to sell their Citizen Approved licensed firearms in open market. 4. Citizens are required to surrender any illegal or unlicensed firearms before National Gun Buyback board within a period of one year and claim compensation pending which possession of unlicensed firearms would be considered an illegal act punishable under Cochin Penal Code. 5. Industries offering Citizen Approved firearms are required to constrain to the Government norms applicable under this law a) Guns shall have non removable tracking units embedded inside the firing chamber b) Guns shall have non removable thermite units embedded inside the firing chamber 6. Citizens who seek to purchase their first gun would be entitled to Government subsidy amounting upto 75% of the total cost of the weapon. Citizen who have availed of this benefit and found to be in possession of illegal weapons would be subjected to extreme penalties under the Cochin Penal Code. 7. Royal Cochin Police Force shall set up public Gun Ranges associated with every Police Station across the Kingdom to facilitate the citizen to improve their firearms handling skills. Ministry of Interior and RCPF shall appoint Range Masters to educate Citizens on proper gun use. The Kingdom recognizes that the internal security and law and order situation is not in its most ideal situation however the security of the citizens cannot be kept hostage to Government's restrictions. Until such a time as the Kingdom deems the internal security situation fully under control the subsidized Gun purchase option would be available. While the government does approve of the citizens bearing firearms, citizen are not permitted to carry concealed weapons. Citizens are also required to comply with the restrictions on unlicensed firearms as a measure to improve the national security. Any attempt to hide or keep in possession unlicensed firearms would be considered on par with high treason.
  19. While we do agree with the supreme defense and non aggression pact and resolving of remaining land questions in Asia and the defense and technological cooperation we find askance at the restrictions on nuclear powers. Until a time as complete nuclear disarmament is an achievable prospect the Kingdom would choose to maintain its stockpiles. Though we have not conducted any tests since our refounding we have rebuilt our nuclear arsenal as one of the prime mandates of ensuring national defense. We are fully in favor of an integrated Strategic Defense network across Asia to provide Mutual defense and interdiction capabilities however regarding the nuclear weapons in our arsenal however we would defer for now.
  20. Even before the relief column from Dogra regiment came to spot from Visakhapatnam the lead team from National Intelligence Agency had been choppered down. While the forensics team started spreading out to gather further intelligence and data the three captured brigands were taken back to the NIA office at Vizag. The senior most officer present Col. Georgiy Nomuri was himself out in the woods tracking the footprints of the ambushers in order to learn more about their motivations and training. So far he was not pleased. The brigands showed reasonably good tradecraft, far different from the rough fumbling ways of most other highway criminal gangs across the nation. He knew there was something different about this group, which was the reason why he was pulled in from his office at Hyderabad. Usually for cases like this it would be the local police and at best CBI which would conduct its investigation. While Central Bureau of Investigation would no doubt be joining the fray the ballgame was NIAs for one simple reason. Maoists. It had been several decades now since the vicious anti communist purge that happened during the reign of the Rama Varma XIV, the 48th King of Cochin. In the years hence the communist menace had been wiped off from South Asia but it seems the two decades of near anarchy that spanned the times between the two kingdoms had led to the resurgence of the Communism but in an even more nefarious fashion. What was the link between Maoists and highway robbers? While subversion is nothing new for Communists this kind of criminal activity was not often associated with them. Colonel Nomuri had of course studied of the the Communist terrorist organizations of Europe in 20th century who often participated in crime to raise funds for their more harmful activities. Well the three remaining terrorists would talk. He was sure of it. Apart from being an ace forensics specialist Colonel Nomuri was also an ace interrogator, a trait he had inherited from his father, another legendary police officer, Chet Nomuri.
  21. The bus is travelling at a sedate pace through the countryside. The dusk sun is creating magical vistas in the shrubby forests of Dantewada in Chhattisgarh Province. As the dried leaves strewn on the road were blown away by the bus the passengers were in various states of drowsiness. An Bollywood film music is played out on the old tape record player in the bus. The cool wafting evening air and the aroma of the forests were even creating a soporific effect on the bus driver. That is the reason why he did not pay much attention to a curious pattern of leaves and dirt a few meters ahead of the bus. As the bus passed over the patch the front tyres were instantly shredded by planks with nails driven into them that were concealed in the patch. The sudden deflation and driver's shocked revival from drowsiness caused the bus to careen off wildly off the road and into a roadside tree. The driver was instantly dead and hunched over the steering wheel. The conductor who was sitting a few feet away smashed his head onto the barrier separating the driver's cabin and was bleeding from the mouth. Several passengers of the bus also suffered minor injuries as they banged their heads against the bus in the accident. The conductor dazedly alighted from the bus to check on the tyres and engine but he had barely got off from the door when he found himself looking into the dark muzzle of a gun. "Get off, all of you. And no over smartness," the masked man pointing the AK47 rifle at the conductor screamed at the passengers. As the conductor looked around he saw similarly masked and armed figures coming out of the woods and surrounding the bus. He also noticed the passengers making studied observations of the brigands. "All of you bring your bags and come out. Act smart and we will kill all of you. You dont want to lose your lives for a few Rupees do you," the masked brigand, who seemed to be the leader, yelled out. Calmly the passengers of the bus, all men, and all surprisingly young and fit looking were lifting their bags down from the racks. He knew he had the conductor under control so the brigand was now ordering his men to come up and start ransacking the bus. Young men, must be college students out for excursion, lots of money and expensive gadgets. And of course the diesel in the bus. Altogether it ought to be profitable loot. As he was mentally calculating the distribution of the loot he noticed something odd. The men were lifting something out of their bags. Something heavy. Maybe laptops? He knew he could get good money for them. Then he knew his plans had gone awry as as one the young men hefted their assault rifles and submachine guns and started firing. The leader of brigands immediately ducked down to hide behind the body of the conductor whom he determined to use as human shield but was now surprised to see a pistol in the hand of the conductor, his bloody and toothless mouth notwithstanding. The bright flash was the last thing he saw. The bus was carrying a platoon of riflemen from the 9th Infantry Regiment , the "Dogra Regiment" and were returning to their base camp near Visakhapatnam after three weeks of training at Nagpur. Though the bus was private it was leased by the Quarter Master Command and its driver and conductor were both soldiers. In a matter of minutes the platoon had killed about 7 brigands and had captured and hogtied three more brigands. They now had to wait for the relief transportation to come from Jagdalpur. It was already getting dark and they knew it would be at least midnight before the relief came. In the meanwhile the Platoon officers Captain Vijay Saxena and the four Fire team leaders (Lieutenants) went through the materiel of the brigands. They sorted through the ID cards and wallets and found on all of them a red leather bound book with a sickle and hammer embossed in it.
  22. xxxxx SECRET xxxxx xxxxx PALACE DURBAR TRANSCRIPTS xxxxx His Highness Rama Varma ( R ) Commander, RCPF : Gen. Antony Rodriguez (P) Minister of Interior: Raghubir Singh (H) Minister of Transportation: EP Jayashankar (T) R: Gentlemen, thank for joining me in this special durbar. You all have read of the recent massacre of a family near Bidar. There have also been a representation from a delegation of Provincial Governors for assistance in dealing with this menace. So today we decide how to handle this issue of internal security. Mr. Singh, would you care to shed some more light on this? H : Your Excellency, the lawlessness in various parts of the country predates the refounding of the Kingdom. Past score of years saw lax coordination and administrative neglect in these areas leading to massive increase in crime. Over the past few years we have been concentrating on administrative reforms in these regions to ensure that we get a grip on this situation. While we have seen substantial rise in several sectors there still remain huge areas where crime is considered as a prosperous vocation. There are indeed entire villages where the main occupation is robbery of theft. It has not helped that while the transportation sector of the Kingdom was revived speedily the police system did not catch up adequately. This enables miscreants to disperse and escape from crime locations to points of safety quite easily. T : This brigandry is also affecting the transportation sector. Apart from trucks and vans being hijacked or destroyed on the roadways we have also seen of late a revival in the trend of railway robbery. Criminals boarding from various stations along a passenger line pull the emergency chain to stop the locomotive in some remote terrain and rob the passengers of their belongings. This menace is particularly serious in the Central and Gangetic provinces. The Railway Protection Forces are already quite stretched thin however with the influx of new battalions after the training program of RCPF we hope to improve the conditions considerably. It is however a fact that there is only so much RPF alone can do. Over past 2 months we have made it a policy to station at least 2 RPF troopers in every single compartment. However last week there was an attack on a passenger train plying between Gwalior and Raipur where the brigands murdered the two RPF personnel of the coach before barricading the vestibules preventing backup RPF troopers from coming in. We need a more effective tactic against these criminals R: The situation is certainly grim. General Rodriguez, any thoughts? P: Your Excellency, while the RCPF had indeed been stretched thin over the past few years we can now act from a position of strength. After our retraining program with the RCDF and Training Command we are now ready to handle this. What we plan to do is a concentrated effort all over the Kingdom over the next one year to use our force in such a way that any criminal would not dare to strike an innocent again. For this however we need the cooperation of the Ministry of Interior, Transportation and of course the Royal Courts of Justice. We believe that without use of deadly force there is no way for crime to be deterred effectively in this case. We need to instill the fear of law and justice in these brigands. It also needs strong support from the Interior and moral support from the Judiciary if the law is indeed to be made respectable in those lawless lands. We have studied this situation over the past few years and that is one of the principal reasons for our reorganization and retraining. The National Intelligence Agency and National Reconnaissance Agency have already readied the counter intelligence and surveillance systems that would be vital for our successful operations. The Armed Reserve Police Force would be deployed in full and would set up checkposts at all major junctions in support of the local law enforcement units. While the local law enforcement units and traffic units would have primacy of control due to their better knowledge of local terrain the ARP would be used as a highly mobile strike force. We hope the Ministry of Transportation could work with our Law Enforcement commands to ensure that we have not missed plugging a ny loopholes. With the entire RCPF's law and order and ARP units in a state of extremely high alert and full deployment for a period of one year we can ensure that the roads would become perfectly safe. While initially the law enforcement units would be used to identify and command the checkposts we hope that the command could be delegated to the ARP units who would then be augmented in manpower by RCDF. Since RCPF would rarely need mass standing infantry units like the Army and still the nature of work would also be more akin to a military security we hope RCDF assistance could be obtained. While the roads are thus secured the Airborne Police Force would also be fully online, assigned principally for road and rail security operations. With the various Police Control Centers networked and collaborated we hope to use the high mobility and striking power of APF effectively. In situations which need greater firepower the SWAT units would be used. During this one year the RCPF units all over Cochin would not be acting as Federated police forces but as one single entity. All units are expected to be highly mobile and reactive. A regards Railways what I would suggest is that along with uniformed RPF personnel RPF personnel in mufti are also deployed in each compartment. The personnel in mufti could carry concealed arms and would serve primarily as a source of information and alert. No emergency brain pull shall be effective without clearance from the particular compartment's RPF trooper in plainclothes. I am also planning that a new unit for RPF be raised and given SWAT training to be deployed in teams of five per train to be special responders in case of attack. In the meanwhile during a major attack on railways the nearest SWAT unit would be flown in. I shall ensure that SWAT units in central Cochin immediately gets training to respond to such railborne operations but in 2 months every single SWAT unit would get those training. We shall crack down without mercy on these criminals and make our citizens feel safe again. R: Good job, General Rodriguez, I shall talk to General Varma and shall ensure that you shall get sufficient infantry backup. Royal Cochin Defense Force shall also assist you by giving you command of a few Airborne Divisions in case you need some heavier firepower and mobility. As far as the citizens are concerned we shall give them some more measures for safety.
  23. DECCAN HERALD Highway Robbery Gone Wrong - 14 of a Family Killed and Four Raped Bidar, Karnataka Province In a shocking highway robbery at Halberga, a village about 25 kilometers from Bidar, a family of 14 were murdered including four women who were raped and killed. The stretch of state Highway connecting Karnataka to Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh is one of the several crime prone highways in the country. The family were returning from a pilgrimage from Tirupati to their hometown of Nanded when the tragedy stuck. As per initial Police findings the family of 14 including 3 women and 7 children were travelling in a white colored Force Traveller mini van and had passed the Bidar checkpost at 4PM in the evening. After a two hour refreshment stop the group had proceeded towards Nanded. The van was stopped by makeshift barricades and stones in the middle of highway off Halberga village by a group of armed and masked brigands. Ramesh Shastry (36), who was the only live witness when Police responded said that after making everyone including the women and children deboard the van the robbers ransacked the vehicle looking for any valuables. Not having found enough they then started searching the persons of the men, women and children and some of the robbers started assaulting Rekha (21), wife of Rishikesh (25). At this Rishikesh started fighting back but was stabbed through his torso with a machete by one of the robbers. The remaining men were now beaten up thoroughly while the women and children were being raped. Ramesh Shastry said even his 8 year old daughter Lakshmi was not spared. The bus was then torched and it was while investigating the blaze that the local police units became aware of the situation by that time the remaining members of the large family were either killed or dead due to physical trauma, heart attack or exposure. Ramesh Shastry himself was in a catatonic state while being brought to the Government Hospital, Bidar. On recovering consciousness he gave a brief account of what happened but was too traumatized to give any descriptions of the attackers. By midnight Mr. Shastry himself died of a massive cardiac arrest at the hospital. This incident is one of several such incidents being reported all over the Kingdom of highway robberies and brigandry. The Governor of Karnataka Province , Mr. Rangaraja Gowda has called for immediate investigation and arrest of the robbers. He has also led a group of Governors to place an urgent petition in front of the King for Central assistance for a nationwide crackdown on the highway robbery menace.
  24. The Royal Cochin Coast Guard has announced a nation wide security drill to test its responsiveness and efficiency in cases of coastal piracy and crime. The massive exercise which involves all the Coast Guard commands would see offense operations conducted by the Royal Cochin Special Forces and the MARCOS. The exercise would cover various scenarios like high seas piracy, smuggling, terrorism, counter intelligence, law enforcement and rescue operations. The exercise was designed to occur as soon as the RCCG was equipped to its full designed TOE which was attained three months ago with the induction of the last Offshore Patrol Vehicle by the Visakhapatnam Coast Guard Station. RCDF and Ministry of Interior studies indicated gross inefficiencies in several areas of RCCGs command responsibilities and duties some years ago, and this exercise would serve as the first of several such exercises for various Zonal RCCG Commands and individual Coat Guard stations to evaluate their performance improvements, The need for reforms got even more seriousness and attention from the Crown after the tragedy that struck some months earlier in which a bulk carrier freighter coming to the port of Karwar in high seas and due to delay in responsiveness and inefficient rescue operations 38 sailors lost their lives.
