1. Chancellor Thomas was in his office, steaming from the recent nuclear attack on Hamburg. Reports continued to stream in about the death toll, people beginning to die of radiation sickness, and damage assessments. He was going through all of these reports which piled on his desk, until he found a paper that had different reading. It read:
The URSR expresses its condolences for the nuclear attack that had impacted your nation. As such, we offer aid and supplies to your nation to help rebuild the port of Hamburg.
The URSR. The huge Socialist state that has made the leaders of Hudsonia paranoid and nervous about having them as next-door neighbors. However, Thomas realized that they could help with aid and rebuilding efforts. So, he sent a message to the leaders of the URSR:
Hudsonia accepts your offer of help. We are utterly desperate for aid from any source we can find. Due to the high radiation in the area that was formerly Hamburg, we have been considering rebuilding the city south of the current site, away from the radiation.
2. Hamburg, Hudsonia Things went on in the busy seaport of Hamburg, the largest city in Hudsonia as they have always went ever since the nation's founding. It was late in the evening, about 11:30 local time and many of the people were already asleep. Still, there were people going home from a long day of work or were lucky enough to go to work to begin their night shifts. This sprawling town of 80,000 was, while modest in comparison to far larger cities in the surrounding nations, was the largest city in Hudsonia, and that indeed was saying a lot. Indeed, because many people were asleep, they had no idea what awaited them this chilly January night. Howard Sinclair was a computer engineer working for a small software company downtown, and he had stayed up to work an extra shift, much to his chagrin. He was speeding home, hoping to catch some sleep and relax after a long day's work, when suddenly, when he was about 4 blocks away from his house, he was pulled over by a police officer for speeding. "You've gotta be freaking kidding me!" Sinclair protested "No, I'm not. You were going about 50-60 miles per hour while the speed limit for this town is 30!" the officer sternly replied "Aw, why can't I get a freaking second chance, Officer?" "There IS no 'second chance' when you're endangering lives, including your own!" The 51 year old grumbled before replying "Fine, I'll PAY the damn fee!" "Thank you!" the policeman replied before slapping Sinclair with a paper stating that he was fined 150 dollars for his speeding. Sinclair groaned while looking at the paper and simply waited for the policeman to pull away before continuing home. As he waited for the officer to get into his car and leave, he noticed on the rear view mirror a bright light to the south. "What the hell?" was all he could say as he noticed the bright light getting brighter and brighter in the dark winter night sky. The police officer noticed too, he got out of the car and stared in the direction of the light, which was to the north, in the direction of nearby Hudson Bay. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the light, which was actually coming from the nuclear missile fired at the city by the Labradorians, detonated, triggering an immense explosion above the harbor. Ships below were melted and disintegrated, part of the sea was vaporized, and the buildings of the city nearest the explosion suffered the same fate as the ships. Then, as the explosion took the form of the famed mushroom cloud, a shockwave was unleashed, which devastated other areas of the city. Buildings collapsed or crumbled to dust, cars were either disintegrated or were tossed like as if they were their toy equivalents being thrown by a screaming child, and all sorts of other destruction ensued. Soon, the shockwave caught up with Sinclair and the police officer, causing the officer to be thrown into the air like a ragdoll and for his car and Sinclair's own to be tossed down the street until they both exploded violently. The shockwave continued until it finally dissipated, with the humongous mushroom cloud towering in the air, serving as a bright light in the night, towering over a ruined town. --- New Berlin Presidential Palace Supreme Chancellor Thomas was busy watching a movie on the huge TV he had in his bedroom, as he was unable to sleep due to his insomnia. Suddenly, a bright light filled the room, coming from the windows, followed soon after it dissipated by a distant boom and a bit of a tremor. "What the hell?!" he commented as he jumped out of bed and opened the door that led to the balcony. Stepping outside, his eyes widened with surprise as he saw the distant mushroom cloud some 50 miles away. Stepping backwards, he rushed over to his phone, placed on the coffee table next to his bed, and called the Secretary of the Military, Roger Wilfred "Roger? Yeah, it's Thomas. Um, do you see that fireball to the northeast?" "Yeah, I am." "From the looks of it, it appears to be where Hamburg's at." "I agree. What should we do, Will?" "Well, I don't know, just... seal off the area around Hamburg, alright?" "Alright." He hung up the phone, sat on the bed and, while watching the distant explosion, rubbed his forehead and mumbled to himself "My God, this is a nightmare!" --- The Next Day Sure enough, Hudsonian forces had sealed off the area around Hamburg and ensured that nobody went within 20 miles of Hamburg. Rescue operators dressed in radioactive-proof gear went into the area to search for survivors. It was devastating, the vast majority of the city had been annihilated, with many buildings having tumbled into a pile of ruins, leaving a scene reminiscent of Hiroshima. Overall, those who had survived the explosion one way or another were fleeing the quarantined area, where they were let through by the guards. Those who couldn't move were evacuated by the rescue operators and were moved to hospitals in New Berlin, Stuttgart, and other major cities. So far, so good, about 2,500 people were accounted as surviving, while the death toll continued to mount. Soon, some 40,000 people had been declared dead, with more confirmations of such as the day rode on. Finally, in the evening, Supreme Chancellor Thomas addressed the nation in a public speech: "My dear Hudsonians, during the night, while you slept, the fair city of Hamburg was annihilated by a nuclear weapon, leaving some 40 to 50,000 people dead. This sudden and deliberate attack is being contributed to the remnants of the Labredorian government, whom were also responsible for nuking the cities of Bismark, Amarna and Washington D.C, Pravus Ingruo. Why? You may ask? Because we have long scolded these cowards for their irresponsibility and recklessness. These nuclear attacks are further proof that these men are dangers, not only to North America, but for world peace at large. Thus, I call for a day of mourning for the thousands who lost their lives in last night's nuclear attack, and if any of you had family or friends living in that region, than may God be with them. Goodnight, Hudsonia, I sincerely hope that those responsible for this despicable act will face justice." --- Once his speech was done, the Department of State sent the following announcement:
Dear nations of the world, our fair city of Hamburg was the victim of a nuclear attack the previous night. So far, 45,000 people have been confirmed dead, with more declared to be so as the rescue teams in the area search for survivors. This will undoubtedly put a strain on our nation, as it would be hoped that Hamburg would become the financial capital of Hudsonia, alas, it seems that Hamburg will have no future.
3. **Private** Monitoring stations in Hudsonia detected the nuclear launch in the Hudson Bay, but the nation's defences could not stop the missile, as they had no way to shoot down a nuclear missile. Thus, the nation's monitors watched helplessly as the missile streaked towards its target in Amarna. Nor could the Navy help hunt the sub that launched the missile, as all they had were patrol boats which were useless in hunting subs, especially out in the open ocean.
 4. OOC: Lol, shoes. IC: Hudsonia New Berlin Presidential Palace "A WHAT?!" Supreme Chancellor Thomas asked in a surprised tone at one of the Hudsonian military's highest-ranking commanders, General William Short. "A- a nuclear strike, sir. Against the capital of Pravus Ingruo, Washington D.C., there were, uh, two other missiles launched that were headed for York City, but they were shot down before they struck." "Good God, this is terrible... wait, who launched it?" Thomas queried "Uh, well, they apparently were launched from the sea, so that means a nuclear submarine." "Well, who did it belong to?" "Well, Pravus Ingruo suspects it was from former Labrador as vengeance for occupying their territory against their wishes." "Ugh, Labrador." Thomas grumbled "Those !@#$%^&* have been thumbing their noses at their protector and our ally Disparu for months, even going so far as to threaten to nuke them. $%^&@#s..." "There's more, sir." "What?! What could possibly be more to this load of !@#$?!!" "Uh, well, you see, Pravus is preparing to blockade Idaho-Montana for allying with Labrador and allegedly supporting the people responsible for the D.C strike." A smirk went across Thomas' face and he stated "Good! Those my idols have caused QUITE an amount of trouble for North America, they deserve to be punished for their stupidity!" Short asked "What do you want to do, sir?" "Nothing! Our military sucks right now, we don't have any warships with the range to reach the UKIM, and the Ingruans have Labrador occupied." "Yes, sir!" Short saluted and walked away. --- Thomas later on sent the following message:
We of the Republic of Hudsonia are saddened to hear of what happened to your capital. We offer our condolences to those who lost their lives in the nuclear attack. --Supreme Chancellor Thomas
5.
The Empire takes note of this new government change so near to her new protectorate.
Rest assured, our new government will not do anything to Pravus Ingruo's new protectorates. We respect other nations and their protectorates, not to mention we have the sense of not messing with other nations, else we would get clobbered.
 6.
We recognize the new government. Alaska shall begin to pull out Federal troops, still in Hudson. We also offer condolences to the death of the Kaiser. -Brendan Luther, Foreign Affairs Secretary
I thank you for your support and also for helping us during the Civil War, as well as offering condolences for the death of Kaiser Wilhelm -Supreme Chancellor Thomas
 7.
Nunavut refuses to recognise the new dictatorship that has taken over the former Reich. We offer any members of the monarchy residence and protection if they need it. OOC: I can't remember if they went back or not =3
We took over the government and nation peacefully, but if you insist, any people loyal to the monarchy are free to flee to Nunavut.
 8. Change "Hudson" to "Hudsonia", if you will.
 9. New Berlin, Hudson Reich January 16th, 20XX 0708 Hours The Kaiser was getting ready in his Palace to make a trip over to the port city of Hamburg, 50 miles to the northeast. The reason for the trip was so as to make an annual inspection of the city, which was planned to be made the financial capital of the nation sometime in the future and indeed, it seemed to have a bright future ahead of it as several banks had been constructed in the city within the last few months. As the Kaiser exited the Palace and got into the back of his limo, the 45 year old Monarch thought the nation was destined to be great (or at least decent). The limo sped away, moving through the streets of New Berlin, while the Kaiser was reflecting on the events that had taken place recently. It has been several months since the Civil War ended, with the Bismarkist forces crushed and Chancellor Bismark himself having escaped beyond the borders and disappeared. Rumors are circulating that he fled to Europe, though where and how exactly are unknown, and the rumors themselves are unconfirmed. Still, this does not trouble the Kaiser as he asserted that Bismark would no longer pose any threat to the Reich and its government again. So now, the nation could go back to rebuilding and continuing to expand and prosper. So, Wilhelm went back to leading the Reich to further glory. Recently, he had picked General William Thomas as Bismark's successor as Chancellor of the Hudson Reich, thus signifying that the nation was recovering from the devastation wrought by the war between the Kaiser and the Kanzler. The Kaiser continued to reflect on the past, present, and most of all, the future of the Reich, while the limo drove away from the outskirts of the capital and made its way along the road that led to Hamburg, cutting through thick snow-covered forests. When it was about 15 miles from the capital, the limo drove along a sharp bend that was adjacent to a large river. All of a sudden, a car driving on the other lane swerved violently towards the limo, forcing the limo driver to turn away from it. Unfortunately, the limo flew off the edge of the road and, flipping upside down, plunged into the river and crashed. The driver, severely injured, managed to unbuckle his seat belt and, after smashing the car door window, managed to escape the limo, which was under 20 feet of water. Later on, salvage teams arrived to fetch the limo out of the water, and several people dove into the river to fetch the Kaiser, which they managed to do. However, when they brought him to shore they discovered to their horror that he wasn't breathing. A funeral for him was held on January 21st, five days after he died. Some 450 people showed up to watch the Monarch and founder of the Reich be laid to rest. After this, Chancellor Thomas decided to take matters into his own hands and consolidate power. --- New Berlin January 23rd, 20XX 1348 Hours In a press room conference held in the Royal Palace, Thomas gave the following speech: "I am indeed saddened by the loss of our Kaiser, as were many of our countrymen. He was indeed a great man and politician, at least, as great as a politician can be. However, his dreams and ideals were naive at best, for the idea of establishing a Germancentric nation in North America is utterly and completely stupid, just like how establishing an Americacentric nation in Europe is. Not only that, but the political system he set up is borderline retarded. On paper, it's a Constitutional Monarchy, yet the Kaiser has an amount of power within the Government. SUCH is the stupidity of Monarchism overall. After all, this IS the 21st century, not the 18th century. "Thus, from here on now, the Monarchy is dissolved, and in its place, a modern state is established. Of course, Elections and all that Democratic processes and such is abolished, as Democracy is nothing but rule by the mob, is it not? Thus, I am establishing a Dictatorship, rule by one man, and that man will be, obviously, me! "Of course, that doesn't mean I'd be a psychotic lunatic, no! On the contrary, I aim to have a benevolent dictatorship, where the people would have many rights... minus the right to elect, of course. @#!*% , you are even free to protest my new government... as long as those protests don't get violent. Not only that, but I'm ALSO getting rid of all the Germanic influences, after all, this is not Central Europe, this is NORTH AMERICA for Christ's sake! European culture should stay in Europe, and North American culture should stay in North America. Thus, I am making ENGLISH the national language, not German. Plus, I am no longer the Kanzler, but the Supreme Chancellor. The weapons are also being renamed, such as the Sturmgewehr-36 is now just the plain ol' G36, and so on. The cities and towns retain their names, though, but that's simply an exception for various reasons. "One final thing: this is no longer the Hudson Reich, for again, this is not Central Europe or the early 20th century. Instead, this nation is simply Hudsonia, or Hudson, and its people are now Hudsonians. Not only that, but we get a new flag to reflect our new identity. Anyway, I now wrap up my speech by saying good bye and long live our nation!" --- After the speech, all the things General Thomas mentioned were carried out: all Germanic names, titles, and customs were done away with and replaced with American and Canadian ones, with the cities and towns being an exception. All weapons and vehicles with German names were renamed and given English ones instead. Thomas was now the Supreme Chancellor, rather than just Chancellor or Kanzler in German. And indeed, a new flag was adopted, one that displayed the region's roots: Finally, the Supreme Chancellor adopted the former Royal Palace as his private Presidential Palace and the country as a whole was renamed "Hudsonia". The now-deceased Kaiser's dreams were being mutated by one man's personal desires. 10. Good riddance. Once less threat to North American peace and stability to worry about. -Kaiser Wilhelm
 11. It is sad to see a great friend and ally go away, after all, they were a key asset in our civil war. Indeed, Disparu would be greatly missed in the Reich. OOC: Looks like I'll have to retcon the civil war ending.
 12. The Loyalist Government of the Hudson Reich condemns the attempt by the URSR to spread their values abroad, especially to a territory so close to the Reich itself.
 13. Hudson representative Donal Runfield had sat down at his seat in the conference room. He was extremely interested in this meeting as, while the Hudson Reich was not exactly a power in the global economy, the government hoped to make it gain a decent holding at least, with plans for the port of Hamburg to be the financial center of the nation. Of course, these plans were put to a halt as a result of the outbreak of civil war, though the Kaiser hoped to implement them eventually once the conflict was over.
 14. Word soon reached the Kaiser of Labrador's Ultimatum to Disparu and his reaction was a combination of shock, horror, and anger. After all, Disparu had been the only nation utterly friendly towards the Reich and also sent considerable aid in his fight against Bismark and his supporters, which was still ongoing. So, he sent a secret message to the Disparuean Government:
To: The Government of Disparu From: Kaiser Wilhelm I am utterly outraged by Labrador's insane antics and this Ultimatum has gone too far. We wish to aid you in any way we can if this turns ugly.
15. The Kaiser has sent a representative, Financial Adviser Donald Runfield, to attend the summit.
 16. 50 miles southeast of Port Asbestos, Hudson It was the beginning of another day behind the frontlines for the soldiers of the 10th Infantry Battalion at Camp Redwall. Soldiers were going about, starting their day which at first seemed like any ordinary day. The mess hall was packed with hungry troopers busy eating their breakfast. The sound of distant gunfire, planes and helicopters flying over, rockets and missiles screaming into the ground, and explosions in the background were a constant reminder that the country was now locked in a Civil War. Upon eating his breakfast, Private First Class Tony Baron turned on his radio to hear the daily morning news. It was the usual: weather and traffic reports in Stuttgart, the largest city in the north of Hudson, controlled by the forces loyal to Kaiser Wilhelm. Then, however, the news broadcaster interrupted his reports by suddenly announcing the recent rogue nuclear attacks on Nod, the Holy American Empire, Korea, England, Marscurian Siberia, and J Andres, as well as the nuclear retaliation against Monaco by Nod. Baron's reaction was the simple uttering of two words: "Holy !@#$" Indeed, the news quickly spread across the entire unit, as well as all those on both sides of the Civil War. Upon reaching word of the nuclear attacks, Kaiser Wilhelm promptly said "My God, this is a nightmare!" and ordered a day of mourning across the Loyalist-held territory be held for those who lost their lives in the attacks. Many people in the Bismarkist-held south did the same. However, Chancellor Bismark, upon receiving word of what happened, snorted "So what? As long as none of the missiles strike our country or at least strike nearby and affect us, I could care less about these attacks!" The Kaiser at once sent a message to all nations affected by the nuclear attacks:
TO: All nations affected by attacks From: Kaiser Wilhelm of the Hudson Reich I am deeply saddened by these sudden nuclear strikes and the millions of lives lost around the world as a result of them. However, due to the fact that my country is locked in civil war, I cannot send aid or help of any kind until it ends. But that doesn't mean we won't ignore what has happened. We will mourn this tragedy, and will pray that the monsters responsible for this are brought to justice.
17. As the allies continued to march ever closer to the capital, resistance from Bismarkist forces only increased in ferocity and desperation. Meanwhile, in the capital, Chancellor Bismark left the Kaiser's former Palace and left the city in a limo, heading southeast. His destination was beyond the Hudson border, where he would then attempt to flee to Europe or Africa. That is, if he succeeded in getting out of the country first.
 18.
Despite the heavy losses dealt on the Bismarkists, a few careless soldiers were nevertheless shot by a rogue bullet or artillery piece. Regardless, the Disparuean force, along with their Loyalist counterparts, continued to march southward, determine to take Bismark's regime down. Along the way, they would also attempt to get the hearts and minds of the people by rebuilding damaged infrastructure to match Disparuean standards, as well as distribute food and other necessary aid to the people.
The Bismarkist forces were pushed south, towards New Berlin. As the Allied force neared the capital, however, they met fierce resistance from Bismarkist troops, which would only become more determined the more the Allies neared New Berlin.
 19. The Bismarkist forces retreated south to New Berlin, suffering heavy losses along the way. Meanwhile, the Loyalist forces around Port Asbestos began heading south after their Disparuean allies. In the south, those troops not tied down by the rebellions were ordered north to defend the capital against the Disparuean and Loyalist forces.
 20.
The Disparuean Government secretly did not appreciate that more nations were being involved in the Reich's internal struggle; they had originally planned to secure the Kaiser's place in the Reich's government all by themselves, in order to secure the Kaiser-led Reich government's loyalty to Disparu. Having more foreign powers involved in the conflict could potentially erode Disparu's standing within the Reich. But oh well, they could just gain their loyalty by helping them once the Kaiser's place was secured; getting rid of the other nations would make the international community suspect Disparu's true motives within the Hudson Reich. As the Bismarkists launched an attack against the Kaiser on all fronts, the Disparueans struck back with greater force. On the air, the superior aircraft of the Disparuean Forces' Aerospace Command mercilessly launched volley after volley of missiles towards the Bismarkists' aircraft, while simultaneously bombing enemy positions below. On the ground, 20,000 more Disparuean troops, along with 500 Abrams tanks, were slowly shipped towards Port Asbestos. Rather than waiting for the Bismarkists to attack their positions at Port Asbestos, the Disparuean Forces decided to move forward in an attempt to capture more land for the Kaiser himself. The troops' main target was New Berlin itself, and they were split into several brigades in order to efficiently defeat the Bismarkists. At James Bay, the Bismarkists' small and powerless fleet would be facing the Disparueans' Skjold-class corvettes: DMCS Albert Einstein, DMCS Pierre Dansereau, DMCS Rudolph A. Marcus, and DMCS Sidney Altman. The corvettes were further supported by Disparuean bombers.
The few Bismarkist aircraft remaining in the sky were obliterated completely by the barrage of AA missiles, so much so that none of their air crews survived. At James Bay, the remaining Bismarkist PT and patrol boats attempted to flee back towards Hamburg naval base, hoping to outrun the Disparuean naval corvettes. Finally, the Bismarkist forces sent to attack Port Asbestos were surprised to encounter the Disparuean land forces, but decided to attack them nonetheless, a decision that would prove fatal for them.
 21. "THIS should end well." the Kaiser grumbled as he sat in his room in the fanciest residence in Port Asbestos watching the TV and hearing about the Novel Committee reopening.
 22.
Sahr gut!" Replied Dietrich "I shall begin construction immediately."
The Monarch nodded and replied "Alright, good luck!"
 23. Nodding, the Kaiser replied "Ja, that sounds good to me!"
 24. The Prussian troops were met by Colonel Robert Pearson, who directed them to Port Asbestos, 35 miles further inland. ---------------------- Meanwhile, in the town itself, the Kaiser had ordered his men to fix the defenses and prepare for another attack by Bismark's forces. --------------------- Indeed, the Chancellor had sent 20,000 men, with significant armor and air support, to attack the town. There was a considerable number of mobile SAM launchers and anti-air vehicles among the assault force. However, with the obsolete technology that the Reich had, Bismark and his command failed to grasp that the Kaiser's men were being reinforced by troops from the newborn Prussian Empire. -------------------- Meanwhile, all across the Reich, the 15,000 troops intended to crush the various revolts across the nation were being plagued by citizens who had taken up arms against the Chancellor's government as well as government soldiers who defected to the Kaiser's side and were fighting against their former comrades. ------------------- Offshore, the Kriegsmarine, like with all branches of the military, was divided between those forces loyal to Bismark and those loyal to Wilhelm. The Patrol boats of the small naval force battled each other off the coast in James Bay, with heavy losses on both sides. Within several days of the naval battle beginning, the Kaiserist forces had lost 25 patrol boats and 85 men, while the Bismarkist forces lost 23 boats and 80 men. ----------------- Finally, in the skies above the northern portion of the Hudson Reich, Luftwaffe fighters and bombers were battling each other for control of the skies. The entire force of P-51 Mustangs, as well as that of F-86s had defected to the Kaiser's side, with small numbers of Bf 109s, Foke-Wulf 109s, AH-1s, AH-64s, and He 111s doing the same. The Mustangs and Sabers proved far superior to the Foke-Wulfs and Messerschmidts, though their fewer numbers put them at a disadvantage. Both sides' bombers attempted to launch bombing sorties on cities, towns, and military facilities held by the other side. Within several days, the Kaiserists had 1 Mustang, 1 Saber, 3 FW 190s, 4 Me 109s, 2 Cobras, 1 Apache, and 2 He 111s shot down, while the Bismarkists had lost 5 Me 109s, 3 Fw 190s, and 3 He 111s shot down. ---------------- The war was indeed heating up, and only time will tell who will prevail.
