Ultimatum to the Nation of Alvonia

The nation of the Union of Western Europe has intelligence that leads us to believe that the nation of Alvonia, who resides to our south in Italy, is carrying the intention of beginning military operations against the Union of Western Europe. For obvious reasons, we do not wish such events to be carried out.

We are, however, merciful and just. We are willing to not demolish the nation of Alvonia should Alvonia meet the following circumstances.

Terms

1) You will cede the territories of Trentino-Alto Adige, Friuli Venezia-Guilia, Veneto, Emilia Romagna, Tuscany, Marches, Umbria, and Latium to us.

2) You will recognize the Emperor of the Union of Western Europe, or any other leader that may follow him, as your sovereign head of state

3) You will recognize the fact that the Union of Western Europe will be in control of your Military affairs, and Foreign Policy

4) You will operate under the banner of the Union of Western Europe (Protectorate status)

5) You will swear upon your life to never engage in military operations with the Union of Western Europe, or any successor states, so help you God.

Meet these terms and you shall remain as you are. Meet them not, and you will be destroyed.

With the withdrawal of Bosporan from the war, Artemis was left without a target. Orders were changed - Azerbaijani Republic and Alvonia were now high-priority targets. Azerbaijan, of course, wasn't as high on the list. Alvonia was where the communists would be landing.

A total of four hundred and fifty thousand troops were now in southeastern Europe. Three hundred thousand were sent down to Alvonia, and the other hundred and fifty were moving straight to Azerbaijan.

---

Alvonian Front

The Adriatic Sea proved no obstacle - almost all of the troops sent into Alvonia went from Sicily. Sicilian troops in boats swarmed across the southern Italian coasts, quickly making beachheads. Overhead, several F-45A Kestrel squadrons took total domination over the badly outdated and badly out-trained Alvonian air force. Two thousand tanks were loaded onto large ships to be transported across the Adriatic along with several dozen thousand troops. The east coast of Alvonia was being annihilated by B-12 Luddite bombers escorted by F-45A's.

All in all, the Alvonian military was being overwhelmed by a vastly superior military. Artemis soldiers, better equipped and more in number, were able to quickly establish positions along the southern and eastern coasts. The air force was totally dominant, and artillery from Sicily was firing at everything within several hundred miles of the northern tip. The invasion was going swiftly.

After, a massive cyber-attack was launched against the Alvonians, intending to cripple all the military networks and shut down civilian power and communications. Fear.

Finally, none of the heavy stuff was being used. Light bombs, mainly light tanks and light artillery were the main focuses. If the ultimatum was refused, the heavy artillery (both physically and metaphorically) would be brought in.

---

The Mediterranean Sea

Large boats filled with thermite mines unloaded just outside of Gibraltar. The mines were densely packed and high in numbers, and the boats continued to unload the mines heading east. Anything and everything passing through would be hit by these mines.

---

Azerbaijan Front

Artemis troops accompanied CSSR troops through southern Slavorussia - as soon as they hit the Bosporan border, they'd pass through and head south to Azerbaijan.

The White Sea Flotilla, exiting Slavorussian waters, have begun firing on Molakian positions with cruiser-launched guided missiles.

In the Helzan trenches the sound of incoming rounds could be heard along the entire stretch and the soldiers immediatly buried themselves into the cover as best as they could whilst the Rapier batteries started to activly search for targets after starting their radars from cold. They didn't find any but the soldiers heard the rounds sail overhead and explode somehwere further inshore which meant that someone was shooting from out at sea but whether they were friendly or hostile was yet to be seen.

Office of the Emperor, Bern

Alexander sat at his desk, having just sent off the terms of his ultimatum. He was sure that there was no way they would be accepted, even he found them ridiculous. The plans had already been drawn for the invasion of Alvonia. The political movements were set, too. He knew, too, that the invasion of Slavorussia and the movement of Union soldiers into Slavorussia and general Barbarossa operations would begin soon. He had already signed the order for the invasion of Alvonia, and the beginning of operations in Slavorussia. He hadn't slept in three days, not since the night of the invasion. He figured he would get some rest, and led Operation Tundra commence.

Operation Tschingis Khan, Phase One

The invasion of Orei

200,000 Union soldiers sat at the ready in the CSSR. With them were 2,500 armoured units. They were all ready to roll out at a moment's notice. That moment came. An encrypted message from the High Command at Union Defensive Base 1 somewhere in the mountains of Switzerland had just arrived, and the Head Communications Officer was preparing to deliver what it said over the loudspeaker to the First and Sixth Armies. Upon completion of delivery, the First Army was to move out, to join the German and Norvsean armies in military operations. Meanwhile, the Sixth Army would begin operations in Russia as well.

After the order was read, the camp was disassembled within an hour. The army rolled Northeast, their objective was Ryazan, a city with very close proximity to Moscow, which was their ultimate goal.

From Shotska, CSSR, Alpha Battalion marched first, heading to Orei. Alpha consisted of 50,000 soldiers and 625 armoured units. Behind them was Beta Battalion, which was comprised of the same amount of soldiers and armour. The ground battled were expected to be fierce, but nothing that Alpha could not handle by themselves.

Deep inside the Union of Western Europe, missiles shot out of silos. Huge FOAB missiles streaked Eastward, carried by Ballistic Missiles. Eight of them targeted key military installations on the route of the army. The casualties expected were immense, fortunately they would be all military casualties. Meanwhile, air raids from the Eastern Air Force kept the Slavorussians pinned down where they were. The raiders took out key roads where supplies could be shipped, and took minimal casualties because of both their technological advantage and their immense numerical advantage (OOC: I'm assuming that Slavorussian Air Force is divided to fight on all fronts. If I'm wrong, correct me.). They were helped by missiles from SAM systems on the ground which were a key part of both Alpha and Beta Battalion, as well as some long-range SAM systems from the Sixth Army.

On top of this 200 missiles were launched, targeting major rail lines that could potentially bring soldiers and other supplies into Slavorussia from the East/South

Retreat was not an option.

The big red line is the path of the First Army. The smaller lines are the radius covered by it. The purple is the area covered by air raids, and the orange is the area covered by the entire operation, including sporadic bombardment, etc.

Operation Tundra, Phase One

The invasion of Northern Italy

As soon as the ultimatum was delivered, the Second and Third Armies of the Union were immediately mobilized for the invasion of Alvonia. No one in the government or military command expected Alvonia to accept the utterly ridiculous terms given to them by the Emperor and Imperial Command. Two hundred thousand soldiers and 2,500 armoured units advanced into Alvonia.

The armies were divided. The Second Army headed East, and the Third Army headed south. They were accompanied by the launchings of five FOAB-equipped ballistic missiles from somewhere in Southern France. These missiles struck the largest military facilities and military assets in Northern Italy. Three targeted military compounds where large amounts of troops awaited orders, and two targeted key military compounds where large amounts of military supplies such as ammunition and other assets were held. These ballistic missiles were accompanied by the launching of 300 smaller missiles which targeted Alvonian railways, factories, arms and munition factories, and air fields. Another 50 missiles after the initial 305 targeted Alvonian military compounds smaller than those hit by the three FOAB missiles launched earlier.

The Second Army, the Northern Army, was divided into two. One headed on a more northern route while the other headed directly towards Venice. The Southern Army, Delta Battalion, marched to Verona, and was ordered to take out all major military installations within 50 miles of the planned route to Verona/Venice. The Northern Army, Charlie Battalion, was to sweep around the north of the area, just south of the Alps, and come around to the city of Udine, and then head back westward to Venice. From Venice, the two armies would break again and march Southward, towards Bologna.

The Third Army divided into several parts. The first part headed down the coastline, where it was assisted by the Mediterranean Fleet of the Union. From Genoa, Europe Battalion was to head along the coast until it reached Rome. It was composed of 50,000 troops and 625 armoured units, as all the battalions were. With the aid of the Mediterranean Fleet, it was expected to reach Rome without much necessary help from the other half of the Third Army. A small detachment of Europe Battalion was sent to capture the Isle of Elba, a large island off the coast of Italy. Meanwhile, the other half of the Third Army, Fear Battalion, was sent along a more inland route along the Italian lowlands. It was, as the rest of the battalions in the invasion, given the order to attack any military installation within 50 miles of its route. It was to continue southwards until it reached the Holy Line, the border of the old Holy Roman Empire, where the border of operations was drawn with the Corporation that the NC had contracted for the war.

Overhead, air raids were conducted on military installations and mobilized Alvonian armies which were not hit by the missiles. Because the Alvonian Air Force numbered less than half of the Union, and because of huge technological advantages, air battles were expected to be relatively limited and when there were battles, Union casualties were expected to be minimal.

Retreat is not an option.

After being told of the invasion, 5 Wehrmacht companys and 4 total armored units consisting of Tigers, Challengers and Panzer IVs would come to the overwhelmed force's aid.

In response, over six hundred Artemis tanks rolled across the shores of Italy, reinforcing the Artemis advance.

Ravenna would be theirs in hours. Overhead, B-12's rolled across the skies, pummeling the city to its knees. The Tigers, Challengers and Panzer IVs were the targets of heavy bombardment by MLRS systems, which were expected to yield extreme casualties in the small battlefield that was Italy. Director Hiley smiled in his office in Sarnunga.

---

"Ravenna is ours - continue around the city while they finish capturing it and meet up with Nord troops. The day is ours."

---

In the south, the vastly outnumbered Alvonian soldiers received little reinforcements. Paratroopers (that's right, paratroopers) dropped en masse near Rome - heavy casualties were taken by Artemis soldiers, but in the end, a few thousand soldiers were dropped around Rome. Tanks were being ferry'd across the coast and would soon be at Rome to fight. The city would be under siege by dusk.

We've also got awacs.. we're transmitting our coms codes to you now. Sync up and lets dance the the destructo tango. We're packing FAEB's and Cluster munitions..."

"Roger, roger, they have been making fast progress toward Moscow. High command has placed 25 of our squadrons in the Southern Russia sector under your indirect command for the next 48 hours. Let's show them what we are made of, Dragonisians!"

Classified:

The Melvin Republic's 7 aircraft carriers halted in the West Indian Sea and launched her 30 of her 35 squadrons of Harrier jets on a one-way path into Alvonia. They would soon land and refill in Alvonia, with permission of course, to carry out battle operations above Rome against the invaders. Reports of paratroopers abounded in the area and the Republican pilots could taste the troop-carrier kills in a few hours, provided they were still carrying out drop-operations.

The rest of the Melvin Republic's navy had been mobilized and moving across the Indian Ocean. The faster frigates and cruisers had already rendezvoused with the carrier task force, and the rest were lagging a little behind.

True to their word, eight Marscurian planes lifted off this morning to fly to the war zone. The group broke into two smaller groups, each carrying two field hospitals and 75 medics. The respective sides were notified of the planes' position as to not draw anti-aircraft fire. One group landed behind NC lines and set up their hospitals outside major captured cities. The other group landed on Slavorussian territory and set up their hospitals outside major cities that were affected by bombing campaigns. Work began immediately as wounded Slavorussians flocked to the hospitals, and it was up to the medics to care for everyone that they could.

Chelyabinsk

The still mostly-ruined city of Chelyabinsk was the backdrop for an impassioned plea from Council Member Lilyana Sobyeskaya:

"Our current refugee camps are starting to become overcrowded. Please, could someone find it in their hearts to give our nation a few hundred thousand board feet of lumber? These aren't numbers on a page to us. These are people, families, with stories, who have had to abandon their homes because of the wars that go on around us. Our civilian population has more than doubled since this war began, because of the refugees coming in from Slavorussia. We have been fortunate enough that many of these have family in Uralic Bashkortostan, and many more have been welcomed into the homes of generous Uralic-Bashkirs. But there is only so much we can do without help. We have the resources to support another million people, but we lack the living space for any more than forty thousand, and that's taking maximum capacity into consideration. Please. We need building materials."

Feeling for the numerous people still pouring into the country, her eyes were full of tears by the time she was finished and walked off the public stage.

As he said it, lumber was being loaded onto huge planes once used for bombings; White Cross insignias were hurriedly being sprayed on.

OOC: Assuming things are unlocked as there is posting...

IC:

CSSR/Germany/whoever else Front

Having suffered serious casualties, and unable to hold the line. Slavorussian troops retreat farther into Belarussia, and reestablish defensive lines. Soldiers dig into fox holes, and trenches. Equipped with anti-armor weapons similar to those used in Lithuania and northern Belarussia the Slavorussians wait for the enemy to advance farther. Communication lines are down in several areas, and Slavorussians have a hell of a time coordinating the defense. (ooc: I think Mykep was handling this front. Slavorussian troops will still be under my control of course but I need to consult with him and cent on this front.)

The enemy would not be allowed to retreat though, though encirclement was incomplete, armored cavalry strike brigades with heavy air support would move rapidly to flank enemy positions as 4 squadrons strike fighters would destroying enemy fuel supply lines cutting off the enemies mechanized and armor units from being able to retreat. Large columns of infantry attempting to reach the safety of armored defenses would find themselves under B-10 bombardment with air burst cluster bombs capable of reaking havoc on their troops capability to continue the fight.

With air superiority achieved over the front, UAV drones would be used to spot enemy anti armor positions, which would be subjected to BOR ground fire as well as buckaneers with anti air missiles now flying second sortees. As troops were attempting to dig into fox holes, they would come under in many places heavy mortar and tank shelling as well as devastating MLRS shell, forward armored calvarly units would be used to move around during this shelling and cut off enemy battalions who would have little clue where the enemy actually was at this point. Again units would be ordered not to engage the enemy at fair range, but rather continue in attacking it from a position where their position would be difficult to spot. This would cut off the ability of the enemy force to provide serious counter attacks, but more importantly would have the psychological effects on the enemies troops that they were facing a ghost armor, particularly when factored in the enemies lack of battlefield awareness and you have a recipe for chaos. The enemies insistence to try and contain the advances within a few kilometers was a recipe for utter encirclement and annihalation. That was what would happen.

Azerbijian lines would find itself under heavy assault as well, the F/A-9s which had been rearming were now airborne, 12 squadrons escorted by 4 Lu-65 squadrons were ordered to begin a mission over the battlespaces in Slavo Russia where the Azerbijianis were operating. Additionally another clean EMP warhead would be launched via IRBM into the stratosphere of the battlefield and detonated. This would have a devastating effect on unprepared combatants in the area. The CSSR army had been preparing for a nuclear war since the day it was founded and fully prepared for this eventuality. It was unlikely the underdeveloped Azeribijianians had the equipment to counter such a contingency.

Interdiction of enemy supply lines and fuel dumps would be top priority for the strike fighters, where the air superiority fighters would be used to knock out any enemy aircraft before they could interact. CSSR electronics warfare craft would fly jamming enemy systems, as a wave of two squadrons of buckaneer craft hung back, but assisted in searching for enemy radar signatures indicating the presence of enemy radar or surface to air missile sites and take them offline. 250 cruise missiles would be launched from the CSSR, aiming at satellite and aerial recon provided targets around Volograd, aiming to destroy the digging in of the enemy troops, hitting their baracks and ammo dumps, and other targets that would often them up, as 200, 000 CSSR troops moved to completely surround the city. With formations now at a U, the forward armored divisions of the CSSR pressed forward to take the final eastern half of the suburban outskirts to not completely encircle Volograd.

At the same time, troops within the city would now find themselves under self propelled artillery and rocket fire, as well as those within a 12 kilometer radius of the enemy main line, guided heavy mortar fire. Combat engineers around the cities outskirsts would blow lines of communication and rail. And UAV drones would be sent further east, to blow up rail lines which could provide any sort of reinforcements into the city if they managed to break one area of the siege.

Meanwhile 20 squadrons of Lu-65s would engage the squadrons of F-35s in Southern Russia. One of the squadron pilots smiled when they heard what they were engaging. “Double inferior I believe is the word the original manufacturers own tests said.” he mused. As both sides employed stealth, warfare would be closer up, where the F-35 was at a disadvantage. Ground based radars were capable at broad band of detecting the F-35 from somewhat of a distance, networking with the Lu-65s onboard avionics. Whereas the F-35 without networked fighters (as far as I know you never Rped linking your networks with Slavorussia's nor are his that advanced) would not be prepared for this. Infrared and heat seeking missiles, uneffected by stealth would then be fired at their targets to engage them from beyond visual range. Lu-65s were ordered to maximum combat altitude, as they would drop down onto smaller pairs of F-35s, unable to detect them until the fight had opened up.

The F-35s principle disadvantages would not just be its lack of missiles (I'm assuming stealth configuration as you don't wanna get blown out of the sky by scores of anti aircraft weapons) but also its inferior engines. Lu-65 pilots, well trained in countless simulator hours had strict orders if engaged by F-35s. Engage them in high altitude dog fights, and with superior numbers. These would be exactly what the Lu-65s would do, forcing enemies into high altitude climbs and sustained turns, which the Lu-65 was designed to do at the expense of ground attack capabilities. The F-35 would not stand a chance, even with pilots as well trained as the red airforces own. Their machines just wouldn't be able to take it. Worse, as engagements were made against smaller flights first, the enemy could not run, as the F-35s super sonic capabilities were several generations subpar. This meant that when the Lu-65 squadrons had the advantage, they would not let any enemy escape and shoot down all the enemy planes. In the event that F-35 squadrons had the advantage, they simply didn't have the thrust to pursue the Lu-65s as they broke off. The end results of these engagements would likely be a costly lesson for the airforces of the world that attempted to deploy the F-35 as a air superiority fighter.

OOC: Finally :)

Ufa

A visibly pleased Jarkko Salomäki and Dr. Ovdey Shlomov sat together in a planning room in a government building in Ufa's city centre.

"WOW," Jarkko said. "Lilya really got the job done there! How much is being sent?"

"Well, we got the manifest reports ahead of time, and we're getting more than we originally asked for," Ovdey said. "Not only will we be able to take on our maximum number of refugees, but we will be able to thin out the numbers in the camps we already have. Now then, where shall we put these?" He clapped his hands together in enthusiasm. "The ERHDC is already waiting for orders."

"We have a few open areas," Jarkko said. "There was actually one nice area Akhmetkhan and Tursanay were scoping out a few days ago, just north of Ufa. It would give the refugees access to all the markets and stores, so they can ride this one out with more than just bread and water, y'know?"

"They'd've been able too anyway," Ovdey said. "Our people have been very generous in these peoples' times of need. It's really encouraging to see Christians acting the way Christians should be acting. And no question that the donations from Artemis will be given thanks for."

"Of course," Jarkko said. "Hell, I'd go and thank their leader myself in person! I'm sure Lilya would want to go with me, too. She really loves these people and will be very grateful that something has been done to help them."

Rome, Alvonia

As the Melvinian Harriers entered the airspace of Rome, the F-45As quickly picked up on the VTOL planes. Codename Angel led the dogfight, as the vastly superior (just because I say it is doesn't make it completely true) F-45As engaged the Harriers. The Alvonian citizens below would watch the dogfight in the dark, as power was shutting down all across Italy.

With little else to do until the ComIntern began forcing a landing in Europe, Promised Land turned its attention to Cyberwarfare. The Nordic Nations would be too difficult to crack, but Artemis Security was wide open to their efforts, and they made the most of it. Those who specialized in this kind of warfare were set to work.

Soon, if the attacks were successful, Artemis would find communications being scrambled or cut off, sources of power shutting down, and in the case of back-up power, systems being attacked by viruses to either display false readings or short out entirely. In short, every operation would be isolated, cut off. Messages would have to be sent by courier to get anything through.

The outmoded Harriers under Melvinian command began with initial successes, but soon the overwhelming weight of the F-45's began removing them from the skies, one by one. 10 out of the 30 squadrons were annihilated and the remaining fighters immediately retreated as their fuel began reaching low levels. Heading back toward the carriers that had launched them, the fighters reported a nearly 1:2 kill-to-death ratio.

The UK is GREATLY alarmed by the Nordic Confederacy's attack against Alvonia, especially by the Union of Western Europe. This meant the exclave city of Martenshaven -- situated between Venice and Trieste -- and its population were effectively put into high-risk. The city were placed on the highest possible state of alert as UK troops and border guards 'fortified' the border; the airspace above Martenshaven were effectively to be off-limits and the same goes for its waters. In addition, we would like both sides to respect our commerce going to and from Martenshaven to the UK. We would like to request that UK commerce and civilian ships be left alone, although we will caution them about going into what would effectively be a warzone.

We do not want our neutrality to be violated.

The Artemis cyber-attack was unexpected and damaging. Artemis had yet to link up with the Nordlandic cyber-networks, leaving their own systems in Europe vulnerable. Thankfully, while the operations were cut off Artemis didn't need to communicate with each other. The Azerbaijani group would continue with their task without ever needing to talk to Artemis HQ, and the Italian operation was simple: invade.
