1. The nation of Finland has embarked on a new path today as the national government has rolled out a $100 billion dollar plan to overhaul the nation's education system. "Too much money has been wasted on weapons of war in a time when conflict has become swift and resolute," said education minister Riiko Dzind today. The $100 billion dollar national endowment will be used to supplement mostly disadvantaged universities and colleges throughout the nation, while higher end universities such as the University of Helsinki and the Republican University of Finland will receive modest 20% increases in endowment. This massive influx of money into Finland's education system is seen by many as an investment in the future of the nation of the Republic of Finland, during a time where superpowers are waging massive conflicts abroad, sidelining smaller nations such as Finland.
2. (OCC: evidently college apps and school isn't as important as CN) IC: Declaration of the Finnish Republic The Shetland Islands base was the result of a legal treaty between the Republic of Finland and Great Britain. Since that base is now, as a result of hostile foreign action, no longer functioning, the Finnish Republic does not consider it vital to its defense interests to continue any claim to the area. However uninvolved and uninterested Finland may be in international affairs, the Republic of Finland is a sovereign entity that exercises jurisdiction within its mainland territorial borders. The Republic of Finland rejects all notions that its existence is false.
3. The United States of the Islands has been exercising internationally-recognized sovereignty in Europe for a long time now. Finland will not stand and watch a resurgent, belligerent Britain bring war to the North Sea so soon again. If aggressive actions are taken by Britain against the United States of the Islands, the Republic of Finland will take actions it sees appropriate to preserve stability in the region.
4. Finland will consider the former English-Finnish agreement to be still valid, and as a result, continue control of the Orkney-Shetland military complex.
5. Security overflights of the Orkney and Shetland islands have begun. Although Orkney is a completely military settlement, Shetland still has a few English settlers. They will be allowed to remain in their homes if they wish, or submit to bunkers to shelter and detainment. English civil forces will be detained until further notice. The Finnish Navy North Sea Fleet has set sail from Vadso for the Orkney and Shetland islands.
6. Permission for the jet to land will be granted. Magistrate Kozarovska will be greeted with full diplomatic honors. "Hello, and welcome to our humble nation," says Foreign Minister Dziarkki when the Athenians had landed on the tarmac.
7. Official Declaration of the Republic of Finland The Finnish government is extremely disappointed to see its allies Slavorussia and Germany attack another ally, England. However, due to the complexity of diplomatic relations with the belligerent nations, it would be imprudent for the Finnish nation to involve itself in this war. However, in the interests of Finnish defense capabilities, the English base in Porkkala, Finland will be closed immediately by Finnish ground forces. All English base personnel will be interned with hospitality for the duration of the conflict. Furthermore, we have no choice but to declare the Orkney and Shetland islands, currently leased to the Republic of Finland and the locations of the biggest overseas military complex of the Republic of Finland, to be under the protection of the Finnish nation. We strongly warn all belligerent nations against military operations in the area of the Orkney and Shetland islands. Thank you, and may God save us all.
8. The Republic of Finland sends its deepest regrets.
9. You in boiling Africa seem to forget that in Finland, ITS ALWAYS WINTER. The AIDS infected needles freeze, the Ebola spores freeze, and the Sarin gas quickly seeps into the frozen ground. Good job.
10. Breivik explodes with a burst of crazy laughter. HAHAHA WE GOT YOU MUSLIMS NOW. And presses the activation key for regional SAM defenses. 3 highly maneuverable S-400 SAMs blow the small subsonic jet out of the sky.
11. We can offer the Helsinki Shipyards "Viktoriya"-class Corvette Displacing 640 tonnes and possessing anti-air, anti-surface, and anti-submarine capability, the radar-stealthy Viktoriya-class Corvette is a budget deal coming in at 2.1 billion markka (or 2.4 international dollars)
12. Finland gives up. Replacement Warlord Anders Breivik has issued a surrender document: Africa is truly the most powerful nation on earth. We invite the African leadership to Finland for a great music festival on an island.
13. Alfred Schlinn has announced today, amid rampant criticisms of his post-Korhonen regime, that a coalition of Leftist parties has won the next election. The next President of Finland will be the party leader of the Moderate Left.Fi Party, Paavo Arhinmaki.
14. A retaliation from Finland came today, after the release of a psychotic islamophobic killer onto the streets of Helsinki. In the chaos, newly-empowered warlord-for-life Ronald Reagan has announced "My fellow Ameri- ehhh Finns, I have signed legislation outlawing poverty forever. We begin bombing in five minutes." In five minutes, hundreds of thermonuclear warheads pounded Africa into a lifeless extension of the Sahara Desert.
15. The landing of Ronald Reagan in Finland drew out hundreds of thousands of closet right-wing reactionaries. They were quickly gunned down by Finnish Defense Force APCs and combat gunships, putting an end to the rightist movement in Finland forever...
16. Finland Declaration Due to our blood relations with Santa's reindeer, the Finnish Saami Parliament has voted to grant political asylum and refugee status to the following characters: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, and Rudolph.
17. Rovaniemi,Lappland. August signals the height of summer warmth in northern Finland's Lapp regions. Hundreds of thousands of Finns travel north to engage in their favorite activities, such as hunting, fishing, and watersports. However, tragedy struck the Finnish nation once again when President Korhonen's own vacation to Lappland went very, very awry. President Korhonen has been pronounced dead today in Rovaniemi Military Hospital after he was airlifted from his private estate, where he suffered a jetski incident that caused fatal brain hemorrhaging. The announcement of his death was made today after the temporary "Ruling Council" had completed plans for a peaceful transition of power. The selected replacement for President Korhonen is to be the Premier of the Finnish Republic, Alfred Schlinn. Schlinn has announced plans for an election as soon as possible, although it will not be known whether he will run for formal election himself. The Finnish nation has been declared to be in a state of mourning until next Monday.
18. Due to recent political instability in England, Porkkala base rights are being suspended for the English military. Airspace around Porkkala RAF AFB will be closed by the Finnish Air Force. Nothing except Finnish aircraft and RAF Transport aircraft will be allowed in the air.
19. Resource shortages in Finland have resulted in budget cutbacks across the board. Military cuts have been at -4% of previous year's budget, and civilian cuts will be at -.69% of the previous budget. President Korhonen was recorded as saying "we hope to demonstrate that even in tough economic times, Finland shows a spirit of peace and goodwill, prizing its citizens above all else. there will be no decrease in living standards as military budget cuts will take the brunt of the economic damage." Following these announcements, the Finnish markka held steady in exchange terms against other world currencies.
20. Private Another state with its government replaced? When Livonia became Kurland and Sweden collapsed, we thought that was enough! The balance of power is being rewritten... Public The Republic of Finland congratulates Norway on achieving independence.
21. Due to the instability in the former Germanic Union, paramilitary police patrols have begun around the Finnmark and Norwegian border areas. Domestically, the Parliament of the Republic of Finland has approved a new domestic mandate for President Korhonen, who responded by issuing an executive order calling for a "Harmonious and Prosperous Socialist Society." The domestic mandate for President Korhonen reiterates the administration's obligations to provide Finnish citizens with the basic rights and privileges accorded to them by the Basic Constitution of the Republic of Finland, which includes health care, access to water and electricity, high speed wireless internet connection, and so on. The public has been responsive to the new domestic mandate, showing an increase in approval ratings from 54% to 59%, a modest but statistically significant increase for a piece of domestic legistlation.
22. The Republic of Finland, holding close relations with former Germanic Union, is alarmed to see the beginnings of a disorderly transition of power. President Korhonen strongly urges the restraint of both the Communists and the Loyalists from military force. In addition, Finnish defense forces along the borders of the former Germanic Union have been raised to alert level 4. Refugees from conflict are not out of the question, and orderly processing of these refugees must be contemplated. No word is given on the diplomatic recognition status of the "GSSR".
23. The damaged area of track, already under repair. ESPOO Quiet life in the Republic of Finland was jolted suddenly today when a tragic rail accident occurred on the rapidly expanding railways of Republic of Finland. In the morning rush hour of July 24th, an elevated section of track on the Main Capital Line, an express line from the Finnish metropolis of Torku to the capital of Helsinki suffered a tragic structural failure as the S323 train was passing through. Investigators suspect that faults in the concrete originating from its construction led to a weak spot in the bridge, and became exacerbated by weathered and erosion in Finland's harsh climate. An entire section of track collapsed, dropping several carriages from a height up of to 20 feet. Local rescuers responded quickly to the incident, but the rush hour packing of carriages only increased casualties. As of now, with most of the wreckage cleared, casualty estimates lie 22 dead and 123 wounded, with 8 in intensive care. Metro and Rail Authorities have only commented slightly on the incident. According to Rail Authorities Spokesman S. Roohonen, "the technical fault in the elevated track is not only the fault of the construction contractor, but also the Rail Authority for failing to detect the defect before catastrophe struck. The journalist called and left messages for Metro Authority spokespersons, but no replies were received. --------- Internet BBS Replies -------------- Finland4eva of Espoo writes: "The rail accident was very loud. Authorities arrived on scene promptly, but screams and cries for help chilled everyone in the vicinity." Regalus88 of Torku writes: "I take the Main Capital Line all the time. I can't believe it could have happened so tragically.." Helsa6d6 of Nokia writes: "The Finnish Government is definitely implicated... Without its breakneck rush to construct such flaws could not have happened so easily..." OOC: I actually was on the Chinese Rail Network the night before the Wenzhou incident.. .scary stuff. On another note, the picture was also taken by me, of the new Beijing-Shijiazhuang High Speed Rail Line....
24. I'm sorry if this is late, but the island half way between Svalbard and Finland is erroneously colored green. It was transferred to Finland here, and therefore could not have become part of Svalbard.
25. The Republic of Finland sends good feelings for those who are celebrating the destruction of the aggressive Korean state. Since good feelings are not tangible things, we will also dispatch 200 liters of the highest quality Finnish vodka.
