lkfht
Joint Mediterranean Naval Security Force Since the unilateral occupation of the Suez Canal cutting off vital trade from Africa to Europe the governments of Italy and France have agreed to jointly administer security duties in the Mediterranean Sea. These duties range from securing the Straight of Gilbralter to combating piracy. Italian and French ships will be deployed to their designated areas of operations. The JMNSF headquarters will be in Palermo, Italy with support and logistics provided by both nations. European nations will be permitted to use the Mediterranean unimpeded. Public Announcement: Any foreign non-European naval vessel must receive permission from the JMNSF in order to enter the Mediterranean Sea. Markus Wilding
"Alvonia must protest this and wonders why non-European nations are being discriminated against, especially considering Africa and Middle East nations also constitute the Mediterranean Sea. This appears to be a plot to restrict other nations by the Franco-Italians and seems to be a show of Eurocentrism." - Director Markus Wilding

Captain Enema
"I wasn't aware that European civilian traffic was being prevented from using the Suez Canal. Could Italy direct our attention to this public notice?. As said before, the Kingdom of Axum frowns upon commerce and trade being hindered through the Straits of Galb for any nation, the same must be true for the Suez Canal. That being said, the Kingdom will be constructing a missile base on the Strait of Galb with a somewhat large air station to enact the same policies Italy has just suggested. Permission for entering the Mediterranean by Italy's Navy will soon be required by Africa." - King Beckwith Classified The 1st Corp is directed to deploy to the appropriate places with the appropriate engineering support to begin constructing a well defended series of missiles bases and air stations to properly protect Africa's interests in the Mediterranean. Hereno
The only current restrictions on Suez travel are against France and the rogue nation of Ukraine, with France still being able to send civilian traffic through the canal. Both are currently subject to restrictions based on their offensive actions against non-European nations, and we aren't surprised to see Italy supporting this given their trying to seize Tangier in the recent past. Unlike the Italians and French, the multiple nations which have taken part in blockading the Suez are only interested in promoting stability and peace across the globe. That two nations feel as though they can claim an entire sea bordered by over a dozen nations and restrict access to over half of the world's population is absolutely ridiculous, and our government condemns these actions. Possible trade sanctions may be placed by the Republic against France and Italy if this situation is not resolved.Signed,President El-Amin of the Red Sea Republic Edited May 28, 2014 by Hereno
lkfht
OOC- to reply to all at once b/c of time "The JMNSF is administered jointly by France and Italy. European nations are NOT affected by this. This only applies to foreign MILITARY vessels. Seeing that the Suez canal will not allow military vessels to transit its waterway, the JMNSF will not allow foreign military vessels to transit the Mediterranean unless it has permission." Uberstein
The Baltic Union of Ubersteinia condemns this move. The Mediterranean is a sea encompassing African and Middle Eastern coasts, not just European, and as such should be open to non-European traffic. Such an act of restraint will inevitable lead to escalation and possible violence. Edited May 28, 2014 by Uberstein
lkfht
HIGHLY CLASSIFIED: Seeing that Kingdom of Axum has expressed its desire to militarily control the Strait of Galb. the Air Force is to continually patrol over the strait with B-2 Stealth Bombers. Task Force 101 already patrolling the strait has been ordered to heightened alert and to block any Axum navy ships from entering the Mediterranean. Zoot Zoot
Is the Empire of Babylonia considered a European Nation its it has a large section of coastline in the Med?. If not, we will not be adhering to these restrictions and if any Babylonian military shipping is restricted, harsh measures will be used to resolve the situation. As previously stated several times, civilian traffic is not impeded in the Suez Canal, only French military vessels due to their rather imperialistic and antogonistic behaviors and tendancies towards other regions of the planet. Shave N Haircut
The French Navy would like to clarify a few points. Any nation bordering the Mediterranean or any seas which border it with the Exception of the Red Sea Republic are free and clear to operate within it, though the French Government requests that before attempting to pass between Tunisia and Sicily that any nation request permission first. This is not a claim on the area in question. None of the occupiers of the Suez Canal are any less imperialistic than France. France simply looks further afield, and occupies only those of either identical background or those who sincerely wish to return to France. Civilian Traffic is not restricted through these waters. Markus Wilding
"This Franco-Italian attempt to seize the Mediterranean Sea is nothing more than a gamble by the two nations to try to restrict and monitor the movements of navies they feel hostile to them. All nations that border the Med, African, Middle Eastern, European, should be free to move within its waters unhindered. What gives the French and Italian states the right to say to these people 'you will move under our blessing or not move at all'? The Red Sea Republic and Babylonian Empire had a clear reason to take the Suez, as it is traditionally African and Middle Eastern land. They can hold it because they are natives, just like we would have the Germans control the Kiel canal because it has been traditionally been German, we would never allow an American or Asian nation take control of it. If we in Alvonia did not know better, we would suspect the French and Italian states have been infiltrated by ultranationalists." - Director Markus WIlding

lkfht
After careful and lengthy discussions within the Italian government and between Italy and France, the Joint Mediterranean Naval Security Force will be disbanded and its mandate repealed. This is due to the positive response to the new Suez Canal policies being implemented. Italy will maintain security duties in the Mediterranean and the Strait of Galb. however it will not stop any civilian or military warship without just cause.
