Actually pure light would be something like a laser where you get only one wavelength, or pure white is a continuous flat frequency spectrum across the visible zone (the zone is important, a true pure white frequency spectrum would have infinite energy) The only scenario where black is all colors and white is no colors is when you're using paint on a white background. And then your "black" will be an ugly brown. And the whole red+blue+green=white thing is an artifact of the human eye's color perception which has three types of cone cells with one having peak sensitivity at each of those colors. Seeing as CN is a digital world it would make sense to go with multicolored being somewhere positive along the 0,0,0 to 255,255,255 line, and since both ends are taken you can just go with 127,127,127 i.e. gray.
