Can we please get some discussion done on the over 50k voting thing?

Because if no one is going to give a hooplah I suspect it is going to come down to the GM staff unilaterally changing the damn rule ourselves.

Given all the impeachment threads and rants about me being incompentent, I'd rather you all just provide polling options so we can vote down this rule and put something better in its place.


Because here is the long term outcome. I'm not going to monitor the map thread for over 50k nations. So what's going to start happening, is one or two things.

We just end up ignoring the rule anyway or force the mapmakers to be responsible for checking each nation that joins before they put them on the map and notifying the GM team to get a vote done before they are officially added.

I'd rather we just go with accepting everyone and voting out the seriously deranged.

 

Whatever we do, we at least need to add an extension/trial period if we want to keep mandatory votes. Few people if anyone at all will be able to make a serious judgment about either person up for vote.

Contesting both of these OOCly. Can we have a "gentleman's agreement" about not annexing large swaths of territory instantaneously? There being white space doesn't mean it needs to be annexed. I get that some countries, like Russia, are bigger than others, and that we'll always have some big nations and some small nations. And I also get that it can be fun and rewarding to RP taking land - that's why I undershot Brazil's borders so I can have time to grow into my nation and make it mine without eating up a continent. But I feel like taking all of Siberia in a day, or grabbing up the Arabian peninsula -yemen+kuwait when you've got Israel, Iraq, Georgia, Azerbaijan, most of Anatolia, Syria, Cyprus, and Jordan is a little bit ridiculous. At the very least, give it a couple weeks IRL and take it one country at a time or something. Yeah it might be boring to make 3 posts about Siberia, but then Siberia sucks anyway. If I can write 3 posts just over some stupid island like Guam, you guys can manage 2 posts with a few paragraphs of action.

And the only other post in that thread is from like 9 days ago but it has nothing to do with any of that. Where is the RP stuff from when you got Georgia and Azerbaijan; is it in that thread?

So then I was correct - the one post you linked to was all the RP you did for the new new territory. I didn't intend to call into question your previous annexations; I was asking if you had done the previous RP for the new territories in another thread somewhere that I had missed. If what you're trying to do is make protectorates or RP the white space as tributaries, then you should probably tell Lynngar to stop adding it to the map and making it look like you're annexing everything in the Middle East. If you *are* annexing it all, though, then yeah I'm still challenging it. It's not even that it's a lot of territory so much as that you've precluded anyone else from rolling in the entire Middle East AND took it all instantaneously AND with just a few paragraphs. If the land is so boring to you that you don't even want to RP out the scenario, then leave it be and let someone else have it.

The problem here is that people who might want the middle east will see a big red blob and assume that it's taken and that there's no way to get it now. You've basically put up a big red sign that says "Don't even bother" all around the middle east.

I would greatly appreciate the lot of you not turning this into a flame fest. We've heard both sides, we'll get around to posting an official position on this when we come up with something.

There is balance between Man and Nature again. The imperialists have forgotten what it is to love your land and people with all your heart, to feel the spirits war above the mighty waves as you surf. Their hearts have been taken by things dug up from the earth, but not in Hawaii. I volunteered for this event knowing I may never return to my lands.

 

Captain Ebanez exhaled and looked at the Empress sister in the eyes.

 

"But I did so willingly, in service to Hawaii. I do not know how much longer we can stand. but should we fall, remember that once, we were here. I think I know who this should be given to. Someday, this may be the only Hawaiian sand left in the world that isn't turned to glass. Please accept this gift from the people of Hawaii."

 

The princess held out her hand shakily, and the Hawaiian placed a small, simple glass vial filled with sand in her hand and closed it. The princess looked up into the eyes of the Hawaiian Officer, and he bowed once more before leaving the princess.

As he walked away and headed back to the wine stand to pour another glass. However, he was swiftly intercepted by the Japanese ambassador.

I did not plan for an interaction with royalty, but you guys jumped all over my post. Dont be mad when I turn it around to make you guys look like a dick.

I hope FHIM turns around and lets this story develop, even if its a Romeo and Juliet gig, because its far better than most of the roleplay you guys were doing.

you walked up to royalty and talked to her like she was just any random person, in some countries that would literally get you killed, we can "stereotype" your character as we wish, since it's our characters opinions of you.

I never stated she was royalty, I described an unspecified character standing by herself. Other people began to jump in and state that she was a princess, that my character was behaving like a dumb brown person, that all these different people jumped in to save the innocent white girl from the scary brown man.

I knew this would happen, and delightfully revealed peoples racist preconceptions. Then I took elements of conflicting responses to put a composite, story driven roleplay together, rather than just isolated cheap shots at other peoples characters.

As the wedding is taking place on FHIC's territory, any bystanders would be their citizens and thus their identity is determined by them or by the people they give permission too. Thus, you do not have the ability to create random guests. You simply have your character and whoever they brought with them.

Tywin, there is zero evidence that anyone RPd your character. Nobody made him do any actions. They described what they thought of your guy, yes, but that's completely legit.

Taking a character and having them say something or act in some way, however, like you did, is not permitted.

 

I thus find Uberstein's ruling to be completely fair.

 

Edit: FHIC also established that the Empress' sister cannot speak English, so the post cannot happen in the first place. :V
