Same etymological origin as Australia, which was named due to its geographic location and because it seemed to be the long sought-after Terra Australis, which one can find on globes before people discovered the sole continents we got there are Australia and Antarctica. If you want to fix things, then start with the attitude of the mapmaker and you. If you want to call the "I'm too lazy to even count their days" removal of still-active nations a fix, I'd appreciate it if you'd not try "fix" any other things.
