Shriva Verning and Houston Ford met up in the evening to discuss the events that had transpired that day. They met at a small, upscale restaurant, as per usual. "So, what do you think of this national police bill? I didn't get to read your email today." "It's quite ridiculous and arguably infringes upon the agreement that the Lumumba government made with the ethnic groups that wanted to remain autonomous. However, we will have to fight this in the Parliament building." "Hmm... an interesting strategy. No protests or anything of that sort?" "Well... I want there to be protests, in fact my people are helping to organize a number of protests in the coming weeks." "But if it goes through, won't people see that as too weak and thus give him a chance to usurp you?" "...Possibly, but I don't think that that will happen."

Upon looking at the note from Autonomy representative Kennington, President of the Kongo Front, Houston Ford was furious. How does this national police force not violate the agreement? This is utterly ridiculous! he thought. Ford quickly shot back a reply, saying "This National Police Force is utter nonsense! It completely violates the agreement of regional sovereignty. This cannot be hid under an argument of national self-defense as the police are not part of the military forces of this nation. This needs to be addressed immediately. While I will support certain initiatives such as not having tariffs between regions, I do not and will not support a national police force." Meanwhile, Harry Abake was on the phone with President of the Luba Loyalists Party, Jay Mobutu, and asked if he would be available in the coming days for a meeting to discuss financial aid to majority-Luba regions. Mobutu refused on the grounds that Lumumba was a traitor to his ethnic group.

Kennington left the Parliamentary House and drove to her own private residence, some 20 minutes away. Once home she emailed the members of Autonomy and said: It seems that the national government is still going to press on with this national police force. Arguably, they could state that the police doesn't violate the agreement as it is in the interest of national security. However, I think that we need to keep a check on Lumumba and his goals for the nation to ensure our autonomy. What say the rest of you? From there, Kennington began to contact members in the southern regions of the country to inform them of what the federal government was doing and to inquire as to if they wanted to protest. The Parliamentary House Lower Parliament Majority Leader Shriva Verning, head of the nationalist Congo First Party, was sitting in her office having a chat on the phone of Upper Parliament Majority Leader Harry Abake, also of the CFP. "Well, do you think that we can get this bill on the national police force to pass?" asked Abake. "Possibly, but while you have the majority, that is not the case for me. I will need at least a couple of votes from one of the ethnic parties. The problem is that the usually vote in a bloc on issues like this. Is there any way we can deal with the situation?" "It doesn't seem likely at all." "What about shifiting some money over to one of the ethnic parties?" "That isn't likely as that would be seen as a bribe. And on top-" "But if we bribe them and one of them accepts, wouldn't it shatter their coalition?" "Hmmmm... well, we could potentially do that. I'll set up meetings and see what happens, though I seriously doubt that any of them will accept." "We can still try."

Vice President Rebecca Hardworthy walked from the Presidential Palace and went to the Parliamentary House to meet with Autonomy, a coalition of three major political parties (the People's Democratic Party, the Luba Loyalists, and the Kongo Front) which preferred regional autonomy, with the regions coming together for collective action rather than a centralized state. Hardworthy walked into the House and took the elevator to the fourth floor, afterward going into a room on the right. In it was the Autonomy representative and head of the Kongo Front Party, Leslie Kennington. "How are you Vice President?" "Well. And yourself?" "Also, well but I really want to get down to business, I have a rather busy schedule." "Sounds fine to me." "Autonomy agreed to a national goverment, but only with regards to certain areas, namely military, foreign affairs, and economics. He promised explicitly in talks that we had before the Declaration of Existence that our communities would be able to police themselves. There is currently legislation to have a national police force under the control of the Ministry of Justice. It is due to this situation the coalition feels that Lumumba is not holding up his end of the bargin. " "I can assure you that the President is keeping the agreement in mind. While he is proposing legislation for a national police force, the regions will be able to police themselves up to the agreed upon points." "This had better be made quite clear to Lumumba. If any of our sovereignty is enfringed upon, we will defend ourselves." "I don't think that kind of language is necessary nor conductive, in fact-" "We will defend ourselves. End of story." Kennington got up and quickly exited the room. Well, Hardworthy thought, we need to get this situation resolved soon before this whole things blows out of proportion.

6. The president, Joseph Lumumba stood up before the gathered throngs of people in front of the Presidential Palace. His hands steady and his body language relaxed, Lumumba stepped up to the microphone and began to speak. While we have remained quite for sometime, the time has come for the people of the Congo to organize and form ourselves into a new nation. We declare ourselves the Democratic Republic of the Congo! After the Address Lumumba quietly walked back into the Palace and met with his Minister of Defense, Robert Goodluck. "How've you been Goodluck?" "Rather well Mr. President. So, what do I owe this meeting to?" "I want to check in with the military situation. How many troops to we plan to have total and how many divisions have already been raised?" "In terms of overall troops, from soldiers to financial teams, we plan to have a total of 1.1 million troops overall. So far, we only have 5 divisions, 2 light infantry, 1 armored, 1 infantry, and 1 airborne division. We are currently engaged in recruiting and training and hope to have three more divisions by the end of the year." "Good to hear. Keep me updated with the situation." "Understood."

9. After settling down, the new commander of Cell A, Erin, gathered his entire platoon together and gave them a talk. He had a rather serious look in his face and was holding a folder. "Alright, you know why we are here, to back the proletariat in their struggle against the capitalist pigs and to show them that we can strike at any where, anytime. Seeing as how we are a platoon, we will each be split into 5 six-person teams. The entirety of Chhattisgarh Province has been split into 5 sectors. Each team will be assigned to a sector and given the necessary materials to engage in the fight." Erin then opened the folder and gave each soldier a paper which read: Alpha Team- Swami Vivekananda Airport Charlie Team- National Institute of Technology Raipur Delta Team- Dr. C. V. Raman University Bravo Team- Hasdev Bango Dam Echo Team- Reserve "You should get within your respective locations as fast as humanly possible. I will command Echo Team which will stay here. Good luck everyone." Over the next several hours, each team left carrying with them laptops, cell phones, AK-47s, pistols, and instructions on how to make explosives. Of course, all of this would be well-hidden to avoid ruining the plan. Erin would later send a messenger to report to the head of Sector 5.
10. Blue Heaven had survived, but barely. The nation had nearly fallen apart with the collapse of the Smith government. If anyone could bring back the nation, they could have, but it was an impossibility as both Roger and Dorothy Smith were long dead. With the collapse of the government came a break down in the entire democratic system as a whole. The military took over and began to run things, but the problems only increased as they took a hands off approach to the economy, which allowed the stock market to run wild. This resulted in a massive increase in income inequality along provincial lines and a full-scale war broke out with the military breaking ranks and aligning with their respective provinces. After several years, the civil war ended, but the tensions remained high. Only a remnant of the military has stayed loyal to the military government, which soon turned into a democratic nation. After some time, the American Commonwealth came and took over, but now the time had come for Blue Heaven to once again rejoin the world of nations. In a quite television broadcasting room, former General Wesley Virnington sat in a blue suit and faced the camera. Over the years his blonde head of hair had greyed and lines in his face began to appear, but overall he had remained in rather good health. Virnington was flanked by five people on his left side and four on his right. He got a signal from the cameraman that the TV was going live. He nodded and upon recieving another signal, began to look into the camera and speak. "Times change. Seasons change. Relationships change, both on a micro and macro level. Times have changed and changed again, but for the better. We were once a sovereign nation and the time has come yet again for us to be sovereign, to have control of our own destiny. Thus, I proclaim the 2nd Republic of Blue Heaven. I, Wesley Virnington, will act as interim President and the men and women on either of my side will act as the heads of the interim government. Elections will be held in the next two months. In that time, we will reconstitute the armed forces."
11. Less than 24 hours later In a quiet village house sat 'Adam,' he received a text message which read: The operation was a success. We must meet tonight. The man smiled to himself and got up from his small table, at which he had sat quietly reading a book. He went over to his bookshelf and retrieved a dusty, but thin, old black book and pocketed it. He stretched and began to debate with himself if he wanted to go or not, seeing as how the weather was beginning to turn sour, but ultimately know that he had to go. Outside, the leaves quietly fell to the ground and it began to lightly rain, with the dirt roads quickly turning into a slushy mud. A slight chill had spread over the town and surrounding areas, so Adam put on a hoodie and sneakers and walked about 20 minutes to a small restaurant where a woman sipping tea and eating a bowl of rice and chicken. "Good to see you Cee." "Good to see you as well Adam," the woman replied. "So, about the text message...," Adam said as he sat down. "The mission was a success. We had needed to get rid of those imbeciles anyway, the Commander of Cell A was killed in the fight and now we can get in a new Cell, one that will be much more successful." "That's good to hear. Who will be commanding it?" "Erin." Adam smiled darkly. "In fact, he's on his way with his cell now." 3 hours later It was about 2 am in the morning and the rain had only gotten worse. This only made the traveling situation for the convoy worse. There were a total of 12 cars, each packed with 5 people, for a total of 60 people moving into Dantewada. The trunks of the vehicles were filled with AK-47s, PK machine guns, pistols, and ammunition while others were filled with fertilizer and other bomb-making materials. The weapons and materials were hidden under a lead-line false trunk bottom. They had been driving for about an hour and came across a rather large building on the outskirts of town and quietly moved in to the building.

A New Era

Classified The trio left the room and after taking a flight of stairs up to the third floor of the Presidential Palace, they went into a room where the rest of the Cabinet was present. Vasques and Hutchins took seats to the right side while Andrha remained standing to speak. "We've been talking about elections for quite some time now and currently the best plan of action seems to be to go and create a small security force and from there do staggered elections, bit by bit. So far it seems as if that is what we are going to do, but I wanted to open this idea up to the floor for discussions. Does anyone have anything to say?" Minister of Justice, Louis Vanburren, rose from the table and said "While I think that staggered elections may be needed so we can count and double count the votes, I am worried that having staggered elections may prove to be difficult as the people are quite anxious to get their government in order. We already have local police forces, so we could easily just give them heavier weapons so they would be able to patrol the elections and ensure nothing happens. This would allow us to have elections for the entire government, while giving us time to cement our legitimacy and create a defensive force. What say the rest of you?" Hutchins responded "That does sound like a good idea, but I still think that we need an actualy defensive force of a military nature in order to ensure the safety of the elections." "We always have SWAT teams which are essentially paramilitary forces. We can have the police along with some specialized SWAT teams. The fact of the matter is that it will take too long to train and arm an actual wing of the military. Also, we must not forget that the Amazonians are here protecting us as well." "We need to keep in mind that the Amazonians are part of Tianxia, our former rulers! What does it say about us that we have to rely on them to keep us safe?" "But we aren't relying on them, we are using our own police forces to protect us and keep us safe. The public wants and supports us, not the Amazonians." "Fine, but I just think that we need to have our own forces protecting us." Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rosa Hagel spoke up saying "Now that we've got that over, I think we should go and discuss how we are going to go about our interest regionally and to what degree we want to be allied with Tianxia. Currently, my personal assessment is to open up relations with the nation of Selenarctos as they are a rathe stable nation that seems to be quite peaceful and not get too heavily involved in anything, mainly watching from the sidelines." Andrha looked at his watch and saw that it was getting somewhat late, still though, he wanted to press on, thus he said "How about we just end the meeting right now. Hagel, you can come with me into my office and we can discuss this further." "That would be fine."

A New Era

Classified After the announcement, Ronald Andrha went to meet with Nina Vasques, Minister of the Interior and Robert Hutchins, Minister of Defense in order to discuss elections and the security that would be needed for them. "Right now, I don't think that it would be wise at all to go and start organizing a full-scale military right now. What we need is a trained defensive force of maybe, 20,000 people, perhaps, to ensure security. On the elections, aspect, I think that it would be good to have the Assembly and the Senate elected first, with the presidential and vice presidential elections to be held at a later date," Andhra said, looking at each Minister. Vasques spoke up first. "I think that having staggered elections in each district would be best, however, we would first need a security force, as you stated, in order to make sure the elections were safe. I think that the defense force may need to be doubled, to 40,000 soldiers in order to ensure the most security." "I don't know if I agree with that," replied Hutchins. "I mean, the fact of the matter is that we have the Amazon squads here and they are going to protect us until we can raise up a national army and it takes quite a while to train soldiers, so I think that we can start elections in specific districts as soon as we have soldiers ready." "Is that really safe though?" Andrha asked. "I mean, if we don't have sufficient force, there could be a chance for unruly forces to try and destablize the country. Even if we do have the support of the Amazon troops, we still need to be on our guard." "Personally, I think that that would be best to go and do the staggered elections in select districts as soon as troops are ready, however we can take this up with the entire Cabinet later tonight." "We may have to do that," said Andhra. He looked over to Vasques. "What parties do we have registered for the Parliamentary elections?" "Currently, we have the Green, Libertarian, Socialist, Conservative, and Justices parties registered, they are all running a total of 20 candidates for all of Parliament. There are several independent running as well and talks that a Christian party may be forming." "That's good to hear. I think it's about time for the Cabinet meeting," Andhra said. "Let's go."

16. 23 Days Before Election Day In a small village near the outskirts of the city of Rafah, a small group of about 100 individuals were engaged in physical exercise, with 5 people overseeing them. The person who seemed to be the most senior member, a woman of average height with a thin build, gathered the men and women around her, saying “Alright! That was definitely some great training. Now it’s time to get you into uniform to do some damage on the shooting range.” The soldiers joyfully cheered as they went back to the houses to don their uniforms. A black sedan drove up to the base and out stepped two men. The man that had exited from the driver seat was quite large and had black hair with just a touch of grey while the other man was about the same size, but seemed much younger. Together, they approached the woman. “How are you doing today, Dara?” asked the older man. “I’m doing fine Ahriman. What have you come here to discuss?” “I’ve come here to discuss the-.” He was interrupted by the soldiers coming out of the houses and lining up and forming a 5 by 10 square. Seeing as how Dara was busy, the two other officers went and took the soldiers away to the shooting ranges. Ahriman returned to talking “I’ve come for you to discuss the plans for election day. We both know that we are not going to win the election. I think that it would be best for us not to go through with the plan. I mean, it would go and erode our entire support base within the Persian community. In addition to this, I don’t know how many troops we will have ready by that time.” “ That isn’t up to me and you know it. It’s up to The Council. They make the decisions. However, what I will do is forward you r inquiry to The Council, yet they will most likely say no. We need to go through with the plan in order for Persians to get our independence.” “But what if it doesn’t work out? What if our brothers and sisters to the north do not aid us?” “We can’t think about that in times like this.” Undisclosed Location in Najran “Have you the intelligence?” an officer asked. “Yes sir,” replied the soldier. “We have a lock on where the Shining Star base is. However, there is a problem.” “What’s that?” “The base is located in a small village, a civilian area.” “Well then, that means we are just going to have to be extra careful, doesn’t it?” “Yessir."
17. Ahmed Raj walked down from the podium and walked back into the National Palace, taking the elevator to the 5[sup]th[/sup] floor. Once there he went to the third room in the left and opened the door to be greeted by a large, round oak table with several chairs in which sat three women and two men. Raj sat down. “So, are we ready?” One of the women quickly answered. “Yes, we are ready to discuss the issues at hand regarding the nation’s internal affairs. Up first will be elections.” She turned to one of the men already seated. “What parties are running Mr. Misarrow?” “We have the Green Party, the New Democrats, the Constitutionalists, and the Shining Star Party are all on the ballot for President and Vice President. We’ve split up the nation into provinces and the voting will be electronic. The elections will be held on January 20[sup]th[/sup] and end on January 23[sup]rd[/sup], with the newly elected President being inaugurated on February 1[sup]st[/sup].” Another one of the women, a redhead with her hair tied in buns, horn-rimmed glasses, and a hawkish nose asked “When will campaigning begin? That is quite important as well.” “Campaigning will begin in one week, Ms. Liveeq. I understand that this is a rather short time frame, but we need to have a stable leadership as soon as possible.” “Fine,” she snapped. “Well, that’s good to hear,” Raj said quietly. “Ms. Vivie, have you anything to say regarding our economic matters?” “Very much so, the economy is going to be picking up steam soon, construction is booming and we are expecting the loan from Tianxia to come quite soon. However, I am worried about the national debt being so high during the beginning. Projections are showing that if the current rates of growth continue, we should be out of debt in five years, however it is still worrying. In addition to this, there are a number of interest groups, name would-be fishermen and corporations that are lobbying for us to negotiate with the Persian Empire and the United Arab States to get access to the sea. I as well think that this is quite important as we need to be able to trade.” She glanced over at John Haifa. Haifa picked up the hint. “I will personally get right on that after elections, if I pass inspection by Parliament.” Liveeq spoke up. “Now that everyone has spoken up, well besides Akin, I will comment on the security situation. We are currently recruiting and training a total of two infantry divisions of about 18,000 soldiers each. They should be ready by the beginning of February. After that we should have three more divisions ready by the time the Tianxian troops leave.” “Good,” replied Naj. “How many troops will we have by the end of the year?” “We hope to have a total of 10 divisions ready by the end of the year. 5 infantry, 3 light infantry, and 2 airborne.” “Alright. Let’s have another meeting next week. This meeting is adjourned.” As the group made their leave, Ms. Liveeq hinted at Haifa, to come with her. He followed her down the corridor, down a flight of stairs and outside. The cold winter was setting in and bitter wind blew, hurting the cheeks of both ministers. Once outside, they hopped into a parked red car, with Liveeq driving and Haifa in the passenger seat. They drove from the capital of Ramallah to a location in the desert. They came upon a small makeshift military base. The car drove up to the security gates where two young soldiers met Liveeq and Haifa. After showing them her ID, she was waved in and parked near the main building. She and Haifa exited the car and walked into the building where, after being patted down and going through a metal detector, they went into a small room where a tall man in a military uniform stood. He saluted Liveeq as she walked in. “How are you today Ms. Liveeq?” “I am doing well General Hasran. How are our forces doing? Do you think they will be ready soon?” “They will be at around sixty percent capacity quite soon. However, I don’t know how we are going to pull this off at all.” John Haifa spoke. “Well, the elections will be held from January 20[sup]th[/sup] to the 23[sup]rd[/sup] and the inauguration will be on February 1[sup]st[/sup].” He looked at Ms. Liveeq. “Lola, the New Democrats isn’t getting much traction. Currently you’re polling at something like 30 percent. It isn’t looking good for you at all. It seems that Raj is going to win, at least for now. I wanna echo what General Hasran just said, I honestly don’t know how we are going to pull this off. I mean, you just said that we’re going to have a total of ten divisions by the end of the year, that’s about 100,000 soldiers with about 60,000 soldiers as infantry. We only have a force of about 10,000 right now and that won’t surely grow by the time the Tianxian troops leave. So how are we going to pull this thing off?” “It is going to go according to plan,” Liveeq snapped. “This body is to form the Presidential Guard which I will be in control of. If Ahmed gets into office then we’re just going to have to kill him. I will become president!” “But you haven’t told us that much of th-,“ Haifa began before being interrupted. “I don’t need to! Both you and Hasran decided to join in with me on this plan after I offered it to you. If you just do what I say, there will be no need to worry!” She looked over at the general. “Now, do we have any information on the Shining Star?” “Yes, but its sketchy at best. They may have begun to form an armed wing. Rumor has it that they aren’t more than a couple kilometers from here.” “Can we hit them?” “If we can find the base, if it even exists.” “Get started on that.”

19. Transitional President Ahmed Raj went up to the podium, dressed in a blue suit. Standing before millions of people he felt rather nervous, but was determined to go on and give his speech anyway. The crowd was waving the Najrani flag and cheering. Why am I up here? This isn’t good. Hopefully this can go well. Raj put his head closer to the microphone and began to speak. “I, Ahmed Raj, come to you today not as a citizen of a nameless nation, not as a citizen of a protectorate, not as a citizen of Tianxia, but I come to you today as a new person. I come to you today as someone who has been liberated. I come to you today as a free man. Today we proclaim the independence of the nation of Najran.” The crowd yelled and cheered wildly. “We have begun,” Raj was interrupted by the cheering. “We have begun to form elections, which will take place in three months. We are currently in the process of raising up the Najrani Self-Defense Force, yet until then, soldiers from Tianxia will be stationed here to ensure our protection. Let us show the world what we have to offer. Long live Najran!”
20.
John_Haifa:Good day Emperor and Empress. Maria_Theresia: You have a request to bring to us, sir? John_Haifa: Indeed. John_Haifa: I come here, representing the transitional government of Najran. John_Haifa: We wish for independence and to become a sovereign entity. Yuan_Jia: (the city)? Maria_Theresia: I believe the city and the immediate region around it? John_Haifa: Yes. Maria_Theresia: If you mean to give our former subjects the protection they require and deserve, I have no complaints with your request. John_Haifa: Of course. We already have plans to raise a military; however, we will be needing aid to get on our feet. Maria_Theresia: That can be provided in the form of a loan. John_Haifa: Do you mind if we discuss the specifics now? I would like to go back to my superiors with a good amount of information. Maria_Theresia: What specifics would you like to discuss? John_Haifa: The loan and the relations between our two countries. John_Haifa: Regarding the loan, I think $400 billion would be enough to get our defense industry in gear as well as to buy some weapons from outside countries. Maria_Theresia: We would be willing to provide the munitions as part of said loan. John_Haifa: Thank you. Would there be any restrictions as to what weaponry we could purchase? Maria_Theresia: I believe, the Emperor would be better gauged to answer that, Excellency. Maria_Theresia: Yuan_Jia? Yuan_Jia: I do not believe we'd be comfortable with long range precision strike or nuclear weapons, but other than that no. John_Haifa: Oh of course not. The transitional government is personally opposed to the use of such weapons. We graciously thank you for the aid. Now, regarding relations between our two nations, the transitional government would like to see Tianxia troops to stay in Najran for the next 6 months, while we recruit and train our first and second infantry divisions. John_Haifa: After that, your soldiers are free to return home. Yuan_Jia: Very well.
22. News Roundup From the Federal Republican Times: Much has been happening in the Federal Republic since the nation's organization and the election of the party-independent President Aleksei Leonidov. The government has been hard at work enacting internal reforms and working with the country's protector, the Chancellery of Cyrantia, on rebuilding. Ever since the official inauguration of the President, Cyrantia has been pouring in funds designed to rebuild Yoitsu from the War of Liberation and to improve it past its pre-war state. Though the government has been given the funds to spend at their discretion in whatever manner they see fit, Grand Chancellor of the State Sergei Aleksandrov has been personally advising the President on their distribution. The funds have been responsible for the large-scale building of public schools, roads and other infrastructure. They have also been used for the construction of a grand government building in the capital of the western half of Yoitsu City. The building flies the flag of the Federal Republic at the top of its mast and the flag of the Chancellery below it. The nation's military has also been highly developed. A peacekeeping corps 100,000 strong composed of both former Yoitsu soldiers and current Cyrantian troops has been organized. The re-appropriation of the former regime's military technologies has also been completed. All of the nation's current tanks, planes, and other combat assets find their origin with old Yoitsu. Those used by the foreign peacekeepers originate from their home nation, however. The Federal Republic maintains an open border with Cyrantia connected by recently-renovated railroads originating with the former United Socialist Republic of Siberia. The military is also keeping lax defenses on the borders with both Vaule and its northern protectorate. The vast majority of border defense has actually been noted to be with the Democratic Republic of Yoitsu, with most concentrated in the dividing zone of Yoitsu City. It is hoped by most citizens of the capital that relations with their eastern neighbors will stabilize and improve over time. From Cuban News: After a fair and public trial, Angelo Garcia was sentenced to death with the execution to happen within the next week. In other news, the trial against former Chicago Prime Minister is to begin next week. [To add to this, there have also been reports that military alertness has dropped and that reserve forces have been deactivated.]
23. Revolutionary Journal Backgrounder: The Commonwealth-Lunar Republic Cold War The following is an interview with Alice Wesker, the Empress of the Imperial Commonwealth ofUmbrella. Anna: Thank you for coming to the Revolutionary Journal Ms.Wesker. Alice: A pleasure. Just call me Alice by the way, I'm not into formalities. Anna: Gladly, Alice.Seeing as how the situation has resolved, how did your nation and the Lunar Republic become involved in a cold war? Alice: Well, it all started after the Empire spread across South America and began getting involved more. It all goes back to when the AUP [AfricanUnity Pact] went to war with Canada over Sao Tome and Principe. Those two islands lie off the African coastline and were Canadian colonies and had been as such for decades. So when the Lunar Republic gained territory on the African mainland and applied for AUP membership, it made all of their possessions that were on mainland Africa colonial holdings. However it was the Falkland Islands that were the main point of tension. After trying more than once to no avail to arrange talks over their status as South American islands under the control ofan African Nation, more drastic measures had to be taken. Anna: What measures were taken by your nation and how did the Republic respond? Alice: Petitions to the AUP were met with threats and hostility, specifically from Aeon, so I took a path of passive aggressiveness against the AUP by ordering Lunar Shipping to be seized if it crossed the Central Atlantic Ridge into the West South Atlantic and if it tried traversing the Southern passage between South America and Antarctica. After a few months of no change, I turned to my allies who in turn prevented the Lunar Republic sailing north of the Equator or East of India, restricting their shipping to African waters. Anna: Why was the nation of Aeon so hostile to your AUP petitions? Alice: I honestly have no idea; the Empire has had no bad relations with Africa prior to the crisis, and has not since it was solved. The Lunar Republic only released the Islands because they were careless in their evacuations and caused a massive biological outbreak of a particularly hazardous bacterium; they didn't even stay to clean up their mess or bury the dead. Anna: Given that many AUP members were concerned over their colonial holdings, was there any competition or bad blood between AUP members at the time? Alice: My own personal opinion is that the AUP felt threatened by this challenge to their most advanced member. Africa has been a hotbed of colonialism for centuries, and at a time when Africa was finally strong enough to stand apart and hold its ground, after a successful campaign against Canada and ourselves, we stood up and said no. South America was unified against the colonial ambitions of Africa, our combined military and economic strength and that of our allies would have smashed Africa. Anna: After the blocking of Lunar shipping, what occurred next? Alice: Well the effective blockade of Lunar shipping began to choke the Lunar holdings, South Georgia and the Falklands suffered most.Being reliant on outside trade for supplies, the blockades forced rationing to occur. The Lunar Republic of course won't admit this, but I will be happy to share with your office the case files for the Falklands. Anna: How did the armed conflict begin between the Falklands and the Lunar Republic? Alice: Well it never actually erupted into open conflict, but not that it matters now, but I had ordered the Imperial fleet within striking distance of the Falklands, as well as preparing our long range bomber forces. They came within a breath of modern siege warfare and blockade. Anna: How did the population respond to the rationing? Did it have an effect on domestic politics? Alice: The citizens on the Falklands that survived were evacuated, the rest died. Because of their negligence, the Lunar Republic caused the deaths of 20,000 of their own people and then left them to rot. It took Imperial forces months to recover, identify and dispose of the bodies. Anna: Who launched the biological weapon and why? Alice: The Lunar Republic claimed it was an experimental bacterium that was being transported by car, but due to bad conditions, crashed and the container holding the bacterium cracked and released it into the environment. Anna: How did the regional and international community respond to such an event? Alice: Well regional nations committed their naval forces to enforce a naval exclusion zone around the islands and committed air forces to firebomb the islands for a month solid. Internationally, the main response seemed to be shock, although no further action was taken against the belligerent nation. Anna: Now that the cold has ended, are relations still sour between the Commonwealth and the Republic? Alice: We have had no contact since the incident, although once the full cost of de-contaminating and rebuilding the islands has been calculated, I assure you, they will be receiving a bill. I am hoping however that the Lunar Republics reactions are not signs of things to come, especially at a time when I am getting the Empire involved in more and more things in the Americas. Anna: Thank you for the interview. Alice: No problem.
