Securing Ireland

The United Federation of the East whole heartily supports the Austrian Position on the Irish issue. We'll be deploying our European mobile off shore base from Portugal, and the Battleship Han and its support vessels as escort to act as a logistic point for relieving the crisis.

David slowly walked up to the Cyprus podium in front of him. It was a beautiful wood which was rather expensive here. Much of the wood he usually saw was oak of some sorts but this was different. Even in places of the world where the wood was native, it wasn't cheep. The stain of the wood glistened as David gripped the sides of it. "I come before you today with the thought of Freedom and Liberty for all men and especially equality." The camera men who all raised their equipment at once dared not to take a picture as David stared at them, "As we stand here now there are men preparing to override Freedom and the course of Liberty. Some who are armed and have the backing of nations with strength we can not even start to imagine, and those with no little more then the faith to cause chaos.

Cowardly men who come not to speak to me in person dare say over video that I am not Irish, that I have no idea what it is to be Irish. I, the son of an Irish Potato farmer near Cork. As a young boy my parents were killed and my grandmother took me to Dublin. It was the first time her or I had been there and we were both astonished. She gave the remainder of our families wealth so that I could safely make it here with a final load of people to Peel or what we would today call New Dublin. I came to the Island with no money, no relatives, and a small job of cleaning bottles for two cents for everyone that I make shine. I went from that to being President.

But in reply to that man that gave me that reply, you think I am not Irish? You think I have not worked hard? Almost all of the men in this room are Irish yet they live on the Island as I do. Are they lesser then you? Are they not equal to you because you live on the mainland of Ireland? Then tell me, are the people of the Aran Islands lesser then people to you? Are they inferior to you? Are the people of Clear Island not equal to you? Do they lack a sole, do they deserve to be slaves? Must you dominate over their well being? If you have the audacity to believe that then I tell you this" David said. He began to raise his voice, "Go to the great city of New York and tell the Irish there that they are not true Irishmen and never will be. Go to the Nation of Texas and tell the Hispanics there that they are not true Latinos and have no cultural ties. Go to Louisiana and tell the Cajun people that they are a nothing and not even French. People are people, sir, and I tell you this now. I see no one people above another and I will never judge a man of his origin or by the color of his skin, but by the content of his character.

We sent forces to protect Ireland from foreign forces so that a South Eastern European nation would not conquer you because I can promise you that they would not be as happy to see these events unfolding. Come to Dublin and speak to me like a true IrishMan and like a human being - or begin strings of violence that will take decades to end and damage Ireland beyond repair unless worked on for decades. Come to Dublin where the flag of green for Catholics, orange for Protestants, and the white which symbolizes their unity will prevail so that these people will live to see tomorrow and that all men will look back at this day and know that people speaking like humans, communicating on matters deer to both sides will know that this was the day that the Lord looked at Ireland and blinked. I leave you with the words of Matthew, '"Do not judge, or you too will be judged.' I thank you all for listening and hope that we can step on this soil to look for a better tomorrow."

*In Cork*

Thousands upon thousands of militia formed near the County Hall to march the streets of the city, nearing 30,000 in total. They were all unarmed, although some may have looked like they had weapons. They wore loose, comfortable clothes and carried signs stating their wish for USI and other foreign governments to leave the Island. Their voice, united; they were all fighting for the same cause. The protest was planned last for hours, days, weeks, as long as it took to drive out the foreigners. The militia people were prepared for a long stay on the streets of Cork. The militia people were united for the Free Irish cause. They would not accept the rule of anyone else; not USI, not England, not any other nation.

The militia members began to march. They chanted "Free Ireland", "Go Home USI", among other phrases against foreign nations. They stayed together in one group. They stayed together for Ireland. They encouraged each other, they supported each other. Their love for a Free Ireland would be the drive they needed to do what is necessary. They were fighting for Ireland.

The population of Cork was nearly 400,000 and would be protected. Forces with riot shields and night sticks took four rows and guarded the streets. Men with rubber bullets were kept behind in case a break of the line. Tear gas was authorized to be used if things got out of hand. Men on horses with night sticks also manned the streets and even more men moved to the entrance of residential streets so that rioters would not burn down homes and kill civilians. They were all give the authority to arrest anyone who was forcing violence or committing terrorism.

Helicopters flew over the city to watch where rioters were so that they knew there every move and if they were to retreat or advance, they would know where to place more men or make them advance. Nearly 60,000 troops were now in Ireland.

The protesters ignored the police and continued marching peacefully. No one would attack the police unprovoked, although a few would spit at the feet of USI police. Their numbers swelled to 32,000 as more wished to voice their support for the movement. The protesters, ignoring the police, would march past police lines as if they did not exist. USI had no authority in Ireland. They were sure to show them this fact non-violently. In Belfast, a similar number of protesters would start voicing their support for the movement as well.

Price would wait for USI to contact him regarding the end of their rule in Ireland. Price was waiting on word from Dalmatia regarding support for the movement.

"OK listen to this one. Austria supports the independence movement in Ireland but, and I quote, 'there is no denying that the USI has a cultural connection to Ireland and given their population expansion, I believe it would help if some land could be distributed to the USI to ease population growth.' Can you believe this !@#$?"

"Just like I said before: they're all imperialists and they're all using Ireland for their imperial playground. Yeah, maybe Austria doesn't want a piece of Ireland, but they're still drunk on the power game."

"And who knows about Austria? Sure it makes absolutely no sense for Austria to want Irish land, but does Dalmatia make any more sense? Then the USI agrees to divide the country on so-called cultural borders. What the $%&@ does northern Irish culture have to do with Dalmatia? Has the world gone retarded?"

"I'm telling you, it's just part of their game. No one cares about the Irish. They only see our island as a prize. They talk of distributing our land as if we're the $%&@in' cake at a birthday party."

"Like Neville Chamberlain selling the Czechs out to Germany. It'll be a great diplomatic triumph if they can peacefully lead us all to the slaughter."

"And it seems like we'd be happy to go too. Everyone claiming to represent the government insists on peaceful demonstrations. Not a single stone was thrown today in Cork. Meanwhile, the soldiers are piling into this country by the thousands. And for what? Didn't USI and Dalmatia stop the war between them? Those soldiers are here to hold us down before we can rise up."

"Oh for sure. They aren't stupid. Just like I said yesterday, our greatest national shame is how quietly we suffer. We can't let it happen again. Peaceful protests are not enough."

"It's only a matter of time before the USI and Dalmatia start murdering us and their hypocritical allies assist them. Dalmatia is a fascist, racist state. The USI wants more living space and Austria legitimized that claim. You don't get lebensraum without ethnic cleansing."

"!@#$@#$ Austrians. Do you know what Austria's two greatest achievements are?"

"What?"

"Convincing the world that Hitler was German and Mozart was Viennese"

"Ha! The world won't listen to self-appointed governments or our peaceful protesters. Maybe we should speak a little louder."

"I couldn't agree more. I'll make some phone calls."

Charles Roa, CEO of MediaCorp, sat in his office in the Hero City. The USI President had invoked the Irish immigrants who lived here in the Hero City, and elsewhere throughout the Empire. Roa knew the Islanders held Pravus Ingruo in high regard... something that he was counting on, in fact. "Tell me, Bernard, what are the restrictions on dealing with this current conflict?" He turned in his chair to Bernard Isidro. His COO looked down at a tablet computer and then back up at him.

"No weapons. Other than that, we're free to do as we choose." Roa nodded.

"I see an opportunity here, Bernard. One that we should exploit to our advantage. Get me the contact information for the two naturalized groups. We are about to give them the greatest weapon of all."

"But the Emperor said..."

"I know what the Emperor said, Bernard. But they meant physical weapons. What they need is a voice, and we are going to give them one."

Once the contact information both both sides of the naturalized resistance were found (OOC: Voodoo and Sal), the same message was sent.
To Whom It May Concern,

I'm sure you have seen of late the bevy of international support that has come for your movement. I wish to extend a hand in a slightly different manner. I am Charles Roa, the CEO of MediaCorp, one of the largest media and communications conglomerates in the world. When trying to win hearts and minds, especially in the face of more oppressive governments who do not want to lose control, a voice loud enough to be heard over them is one of the many tools that you need. Me, and my company, can provide that voice, with the subtly of a whisper but the volume of a bullhorn.

Should you agree to our help, I would only ask that once this conflict has ended, if our help has been necessary to help you claim what is rightfully yours, that we have a seat at the negotiating table when it comes to the telecommunications and information infrastructure of your new nation. Let us know what you think. We can have the necessary equipment in country and set up within 48 hours.

Signed,
Charles Roa

The forces currently stationed in Ireland were in a desperate position, they could see the area around them blow up but strict instructions from Athens forced them to not get involved in the internal affairs of the USI. As the situation seemed to devolve further finally another message arrived at the makeshift command post for the division.
**Level 3 Encryption Procedures - Classified**

From: Imperial Command - Hellenic Forces.
To: Task Force Ireland Commanding Officer

In line with Athenian neutrality on internal crisis in Ireland you are ordered to not involve yourself in the internal affairs of Ireland. Orders are to establish a safezone for aid organizations and refugees. Duties strictly peacekeeping, do not engage unless fired upon.

Coordinate with Atlantic Fleet on the arrival of ships carrying aid.
As ordered the 10,000 men would begin to set up a perimeter in Northern Ireland where security would be maintained by the Hellenic Army, messages were sent to all parties informing them that this area would be a safe zone to all. Aid organizations would receive a similar message explaining that the zone could be used to safely divide aid throughout the nation.

While the 3rd Marine Division is deployed alongside the deployed combat units of United States of the Islands the newly arriving 5th Mechanized Division is mainly holding to field garrisons outside Waterford and Galway. The Royal Carnatic Regiment is maintaining a subdued presence without any overt activities, with the soldiers mainly acclimatizing to the new terrain and also hoping that their visit would be a peaceful one. The soldiers had all heard about the civil unrests in Cork and felt particularly untrained for this sort of job. The Mechanized Divisions of Royal Cochin Army are designed to pound through enemy territories and holding ground, policing would be a different ball game entirely. However they left the worrying to the officers who have constant communication both with Fort Anchengo and GSHQ in Cochin City.

*** Classified message to both Independent Irish movements ***

We, the new English Labour government, would like you to know that you have our full support. Unfortunately, we are unable to choose one of you over the other but we would very much like Ireland to remain in control of the Irish.

We would like to invite representatives from both your parties to Downing Street to discuss the way forward in making sure you regain control of Ireland. We must stress that you do not remain divided and that you work together to keep Ireland in your hands. Two separate movements would only split the support each of you might receive but together you should be able to gain enough support to ensure the independence or Ireland.

Unfortunately military support would not be an option, we cannot risk what little stability England has at the moment and another war would most likely devastate us.

There are other less overt ways we might be able to support you, but we shall discuss that when you arrive.

Your Sincerely,
Gordon Brown, Prime Minister of England

My apologies, with all the confusion in Ireland news has been slow in reaching our shores. We see now that the other group are mere terrorists and have no part in the governance of Ireland.

We would like to accept your invitation to come to Ireland, unfortunately with the election among other things just having occurred I shall not be able to attend in person. I will however send the Foreign Minister Aston Martin to Cork immediately.

*** Public Statement ***

With recent events in Ireland including terrorist plots against the occupying armies, we hereby renounce the Irish Liberation Army. It has been labeled a terrorist organization and we have added all known members to the terrorist watch-list.

These terrorists should give up their arms before it is too late and they find themselves being hunted down and arrested, and rightfully so, by the occupying forces.

We hereby pledge our support for the non-violent independence movement in hope that they remain non-violent and that their peaceful protests can gain them control of their country once again.

Cork, Disputed Irish Territory

Max Ostenberg and Benjamin Jung sat inside their rooms of the Hotel Issacs beneath mountains of reports on the progress of the Austrian Aid Mission to Ireland. Austria unlike many of the other European countries had involved themselves only minimally with Ireland's affairs but even the Empress' voice and distribution of aid had not kept the Empire out of the acid-filled words of various Celtic Independence movements. This feeling of being unwelcome combined with the massive protests going on in Cork had urged Ostenberg and Jung to petition Vienna to stop the Aid Mission as soon as possible. In their words Ireland had succumbed to intense amount of internal strife and it was not the place for innocent and unarmed Austrian aid workers. Now they waited with a video camera hooked up with a military router for the Empress' words on the situation.

"Minister Kant said she would be able to contact us sometime this afternoon." Ostenberg said as he paced around the room, wringing his hands over each other. "This is taking too long."

"Be patient Max, the Empress wouldn't just abandon the Aid Mission, it was her idea after all. Kant was probably just unsure of the time she would be able to get back to us. There isn't any rush, the protests seem to be calming down for the afternoon." Jung turned to the windows and looked down at the trash ridden streets, smoke still serpentined into the air from far off sections of the town. "Maybe we'll finally be able to get out and work with the police forces tonight."

"Are you sure the internet router is properly hooked up?"

"Max please there's n-" Suddenly the screen came to life as the visage of the Empress appeared. "Your Majesty," both of the aid commissioners bowed as Max began the conversation. "I hope we aren't bothering you, but things have come up, protests are swamping the entire island."

"I'm well aware of that Herr Ostenberg. The news reports that arrived today speak of nothing more than a stalemate between the USI police forces and the new independence movements." She chuckled, "I'm simply waiting for Dalmatia to get tired of this chaos and clamp down with order the likes of which Ireland has never seen. So what is the issue that you are having with the Aid Mission?"

"Your Majesty, we are getting the feeling that the Irish do not want us here. They don't seen neutrality. If you help the Cork Movement, you are spit at by USI officials and on the other hand, aiding the USI causes near physical attacks by the protesters. Now there is a volatile movement coming out of Dublin. Your Majesty, the longer we stay here, the greater danger we would our workers in."

Theresia shifted in her seat and tapped her fingers against her lips. "Then perhaps it is time to throw our cards in attempting to solve this crisis. The Cork Movement has responded positively to our Mission and if the world sees Dalmatia and the USI's movements as imperialist, then we should do what we can to re-position our image. I want you both to act as my personal envoys to the Cork Movement Leadership. Alert them that Austria places her full confidence in their succession as the rightful Irish Leadership. While you are doing that I will be sending another envoy to the USI to speak to their leadership about the current situation. Someone with a firmer grip on diplomatic business."

"Your Majesty?" Ostenberg said as he watched a woman in white appear on the screen, her yellow eyes menacingly piercing even through the camera.

"This is Valeria Tyrannia, the Countess of Trent, she will see to the negotiations to the north. Make sure you get the support of the Cork Movement. I will be sorely disappointed if you do not." She said as the screen turned black.

Ostenberg and Jung looked at each other nervously, before the anxious Ostenberg spoke. "This is too much, we should have never taken this assignment."

---

Later that evening, the two Aid Commissioners made their way to County Hall in Cork to ask to see the figure head of the Cork movement for independence. They came under a flag of truce as acting ambassadors from the Austrian Empress looking to bring first hand relations and support to the new movement.

---

OOC: PD I will have a thread up for your meeting in a bit.

An aide entered the office of Price, in the Cork County Hall. He told him to look outside the window. Price turned around to see a black car drive up the other side of the street and park. He noticed Austrian flags at the front of the vehicle.

"Invite the delegation up. I'll have Kearney handle England for now. I want to talk to the Envoy's myself."

"Yessir"

The aide met the delegation at the door of the Hall and welcomed them. After some simple formalities, he led the envoy's up to Price's office. At the door of the office, he told Price they have arrived. Price motioned them to enter the office, and personally welcomed the delegation to his office and island.

With these peoples who were peacefully marching, the military leaders of the area decided to take no action even though the Island of Ireland was still considered a type of zone that you may not want protests in. The protestors would be carefully watched and police officers would be on duty to make sure there were no law breaks but as long as they continued to be peaceful - the military and the police would have no problem with them for peaceful protests were a way to get your point across. Violent protests were a way to get people hurt or in some cases, even worse. As the protestors would fill the streets the police would barricade neighborhoods so that massive amounts of people were not going through the streets and scaring civilians who were just trying to stay home.

The soldiers and police forces were not surprised and did their best to stay calm. Quickly the order was given to arrest anyone wearing the masks and stop these violent people from harming the peaceful protestors, the soldiers, and the homes and buisness of civilians. Riot guns were brought in. The advantage of these riot guns is that they had bean bag rounds which could be used at close or decently far range and would, upon impact, hurt pretty bad but not actually penetrate the skin or cause serious i have an injury. Very loud speakers began to say at once, "Put down your weapons and stop immediately - you will be charged with terrorism and disrupting a peaceful protest if you continue." The rioters were easy to see because of their uniforms and so men quickly rushed past the peaceful protestors telling them to get in the sidewalks or hide so that they would not be harmed and so that they could continue their protests. "Snipers" were given guns that shot rubber bullets which hurt very bad and sometimes broke the skin however they were ordered not to fire unless told to. They were finding prime targets and aiming at their chests, waiting to be given the order if their commanders ordered it.

Also many many dogs were brought in by the K9 unit and began starting to march towards the rioters - maybe terrorists is a better word? - as the horsemen advanced forward. The "infantry" came in from behind to order arrests and what not however all of them had the power to do so. Another barricade of men set themselves up on the opposite side of the street using the same tactics. In some of the secure locations "Sonic weapons" were set up with their Humvees. They could be set to pop the ear drums of a human being and cause them to faint, or they could be set so that it would be so loud it would cause people to fall to the ground. Since the weapons were accurate and did not put the sound out in all directions, they would only effect the area in which they were directly pointed at. Many of the police had ear protection although because of the accuracy of the weapon they probably wouldn't need it. Some of the Humvees began using the sonic weapons on specific areas they saw clogged by the terrorists. They were told to use the weapons not at their full capacity and not to use it unless they were sure they were only harming the violent ones.

On the side of the barricade where the peaceful protestors were being pushed to had even more officers then were moving ahead to take care of the terrorists. Many of them were like before, standing guard encase something happened but none of them were in the middle of the streets except for a few directing for the peaceful protestors to come more this way so they would not be harmed or caught in the crossfire of the terrorists bombs and weapons. A few brave members of the national guard stepped forward, unarmed and without their helmets on to offer water bottles which they had more than enough of. Although they had different beliefs they were still human.

There were even more men with night sticks that would act as light infantry in some sorts to take the front line against the terrorists and move in. The men with the riot shields stood close together and used "The Wall" tactic, having men behind them with night sticks and riot guns with been bag rounds in case the crowd tried running away from the men on either side.

OOC TO TIMMY: Timmy, just to tell you, if you want to get a flight into Ireland at all you might want to ask me first considering I have my entire air force in the air and a lot of it being over Ireland. And I also have the air ports under my control because they are centers of aid and what-not.

OOC TO SARAH: Sure no problem.

At the airports defenses and barricades and fences with barbed wire were set up to protect them. Many Marines were armed with riot gear and guns and similar weapons like that of those in Cork. The Sonic Weapons (mentioned earlier) were set up this time on top of buildings so that they could be used from high locations to get a better sight at people. Snipers with rubber bullet rounds in rifles were also being used like in Cork. The some of the Army Corps and almost all Engineers who belonged to the Cajun Federation were re-called because of some of the riots because the USI wanted to ensure that these generous men were not harmed.

Northern Ireland

The Imperial Moff incharge of Imperial operations in Northern Ireland read over the intelligence reports flooding his office. "Freedom" was the common slogan being thrown around by the Irish protestors, and so far two groups were pushing for it. While most of the protest had been isolated to Southern Ireland, which was controlled by the United States of the Islands, some pockets were sprouting in Northern Ireland, which placed the Moff in a precarious situation. For one, he couldn't allow his area of operations to become a hotbed of rebel activity. The repercussions for that was the total ruination of his politcal career in the Empire. In addition, he had been tasked by the Emperor to secure a suitable military base in the North. He had alot of options at his disposal to reach his goals. He could put down the rebels using the military resources at his disposal, or he could negotiate with the rebel elements. He chose the latter.

He sent word of his intentions to the capital, which were quickly approved by the Imperial Ruling Council. The Moff then crafted a response for the Provisional Irish Government/Independence Movement led by Price.
Fellow Leader,

The current situation in Ireland is a most precarious. Therefore, in order to avoid any senseless bloodshed, I invite you to my headquarters to discuss a possible outcome to this situation. You seem like a sensible man, who cares for this nation and it's people. I await your response.
After dispatching the message, military units in Northern Ireland went on full alert. For the time being, forces will sit in the sidelines and the let the protest continue to take place.

Price sent word back to Dalmatia that he would attend the meeting as soon as it was possible.

Ostenberg and Jung both entered Price's office with hands folded and bowing their heads in respect to the Dissent Leader. "Herr Price, it is a pleasure to meet your acquaintance," Ostenberg began and reached out to shake his hand. "My partner and I appreciate you taking the time out of your schedule to meet with us. I'm sure it has been extremely busy with the protests and now with a major rebellion occurring in Dublin. We can only offer you the best."

Jung began immediately after, "The Empress has expressed her support to see a Free Irish movement succeed, especially one that has not turned to violence. It makes the world support you faster and it makes Austria see a better future for Ireland, especially considering the past regimes which have taken support of the people. The Dinsmore Regime, specifically comes to mind after the nuclear disaster in London and Her Majesty along with probably the rest of Europe, hopes that your government if and when it is set up with be a responsible voice for the British Isles."

"At the moment," started Ostenberg, "We are trying to gather information as to what is actually occurring in Ireland, from a political standpoint. Another Austrian Ambassador is meeting with the USI government to see their goals and objectives, nothing classified though. We would hope to convince both parties to seek a diplomatic solution to this struggle and stop any violence before it breaks out, or spreads further as it has in Dublin. But to get a strong analysis on what is happening, we would like to know your movements goals and objectives in setting up an Independent Ireland."

"Violence has never been our answer to securing independence. With enough of a voice, and with enough internal support, USI and Dalmatia would eventually have to leave Ireland with the Irish. Our movements goals and objectives are simple. We want the Eire turned over back to the Irish. Dalmatia, USI, England, etc, will not have any influence or control over our island. Once we achieve independence, we will have to do what we need to ensure their influence is no longer present. We intend to do this non-violently and until we achieve our goals. We do not, and cannot accept anything else."

Northern Ireland
Moff Kadir's HQ

Moff Kadir sat in his office, awaiting the arrival of Price, the leader of the Irish Independence Movement. He shuffled through the papers on his desk, while tossing some and ripping others. He was a frustrated man. A man tired and exhausted. He was a man that wanted to go home.

"Where is this Price person. These Irish want their freedom but take forever to arrive to one meeting. Are we sure he received the memo? Maybe he's out protesting somewhere."

"According to our records, Price received the memo and did reply. As a matter of fact, he is arriving now." his Adjutant replied.

Kadir replied "Ah good, maybe we can get this meeting started, so I can go on with my life and get home"
