1.
Why on earth would anyone purchase land during nuclear war? He does have a tech advantage over his opponents so he'll gain more land in a successful GA, but enough to counteract 2 nuclear weapons which destroy a minimum of 150 land each?
Apologies, wasn't thinking clearly and forgot there were nukes happening (was just thinking about how ridiculously cheap it is at those levels). If he's fighting a lot of people at once it is possible to negate the land loss from 1 nuke per day with all of the GAs you can do. As long as you don't leave yourself vulnerable to GAs yourself. I've ended up after a nuclear war with the same amount of land as before, so it is possible. On closer look he's got 5 GCs and only 1 of his opponents has GCs, so he'll beat them relatively easy on the ground (especially while using nukes for advantage).
2.
The blockade was performed 2 days ago. Your current land is 992.101 mile diameter. 213.594 in purchases, 104.746 in modifiers, 673.761 in growth Assuming you ate a nuke or two which destroyed land, it is safe to assume that at the time of the blockade you had >1000 land.
If he says he had 800 at the time, he might have bought up to just under 1000, or may have ground battled and gained it back. I'm assuming this is what happened (I'd rebuy up to 990 land too, in his situation.)
3. It makes sense, as your FAFB and ACs are likely not in the same area as the nukes fall.
4. I actually enjoyed seeing the progression of shields in the banners. I don't give SF too much thought usually but it's clear there's a lot of history in you guys and gals. I admire your grouping in it's closeness.
5. The most recent collection might be explained by the high GRL, which will probably take away 2 improvement slots, all else the same. Otherwise, look at improvements which you may have scrapped unintentionally, and if you've touched borderwalls at all, that will affect your population. As admin said, Events as well.
6. Adding game mechanics geared towards creating more conflict would also go well with this "easier rebuilding" update we seem close to getting. It would also give alliances other things to fight over than out-of-game reasons (name calling, etc). A tech raid gone wrong or a hostile takeover of a color sphere or other in-game reasons for war are few and far between. I realize this is a general statement; I have no examples of what to add which would help. But I do have the idea that sanctioned alliances should have more given to them than the gift of having to deal with ghosts. Give them some in-game power not available to other alliances, create more of a reason for alliances to get into the sanctioned list than to say "we're in the top 12". Edit to admin: you said so yourself, in times of conflict and drama this is when you see an increase in player sign ups. You mention you have no control over when that happens, or how often. This isn't true, as you probably know from thinking about an easier rebuilding update to the game. But you can also create more in-game reasons for war.
7.
A Welcome Wagon effort is something we can do without Admin. approval but it would require the assistance of at least a dozen members. These 12 people would monitor the All Nations page round the clock and send welcoming messages as soon as possible. If new sign-ups are still around the 160 range, this would be a simple 13-14 messages each (if registrations are scattered uniformly around the clock and if coverage is the same).
This welcome wagon approach is good, but it would be much better with Admin's blessing (ie having admin send out the message which ensures that if they read any of the messages in their inbox, they will read that one). It would be drowned out by all of the recruitment messages, so it is much more useful if they get it *right* when they log in for the first time, along with admin's original message.
8. I also agree with Fingolfin's remarks about not having material reparations. This slows down the game and increases time between wars, since people are 'under reps' for so long. But think of it this way, in today's CN, any amount of reps is *never* going to put a dent in the amount of infras/land/tech destroyed. They don't serve what they used to, way back when every war wasn't nuclear, and when every nation wasn't so large. Giving out massive reps along with the Foreign aid limits in-game make the reparation period go forever, and keeps that alliance out of the picture for far too long, imo.
9. An interesting compilation of posts. I was curious how it went down after I had gone, and your words always having been strung together with ease was the best way I could think of of reliving what actually happened Thanks Kzopp!
10. It would be nice to have a chart of this decline, with actual data points on it. Anyone been collecting that data? I suppose I should ask UE about it...
11. I never thought of putting it up in the suggestion box before, but have often thought about how useful this would be (and how nice CN would look if it was made into a mobile version, even just a mobile website formatted for small screens).
12.
We had biggest gainer
It's been a while for us and that!
13.
Letting my nation delete when I was ZIed by the NPO. Lost 3k tech, 1 bil, and all my wonders... Rebuilt from scratch.
I left at ~8k infra and 4k tech and 600 mill in the bank, ~21 wonders, i hear ya. But I'm finding it fun to rebuild. Not much to look forward to as a large nation anymore, so I'm back where the fun is.
14. Looking at the specific wonder list looks like he has 8 wonders, so they aren't even showing at all and this other one is. Must be some kind of joke...
15. Is this optional aggression and defense? Also has Planet Bob found in the past that 48 hour cancelations were too long? Congrats on the treaty.
16. I would feel strange going out to get a book recommended by you in your bathroom but I am seriously considering...
17. I don't see why they can' just tell all of RoK's allies to peace out and have a 1vs1 for a round of war or so. It would relieve some of the boredom and would be a much more even fight than what we are seeing now. Then end with white peace, RoK having presumably taught NSO a lesson.
18. This is a great tool to use. Pop in, ask if someone has whatever resources you need, temp trade, and you're done. If you had a good experience, sign yourself up to the temp trade list and idle in the channel to help others
19. TFD (which is blue) has a very lenient application procedure, can get you in and set up very quickly. We have active forums and IRC, and it's got a very friendly feel! Join #tfd to chat with some members. Our application link is here. For some reason to me your name is familiar. I've probably seen you on IRC or something... Anyhow, good luck with your choice! Edit: I suppose I got here just too late Edit 2: Your name is familiar because I trade with you ...
20. Congratulations - it was only a matter of time. I'm frankly surprised Gramlins fought so far, when they could have realized what they seem to know now 2 months+ ago..
21. What does it stand for, this OTF? I looked everywhere...
22. New Polar Order and New Emerald Order (haha)
23. I think you've got everything mate; we all know you're just trying to catch up to me Now we have to get this all down on paper for the masses.
Looking at your nation, I'd say your trades are your worst problem right now. With Fish / Uranium you should have no problem getting into a trade circle.
He temp trades, so he's got a TC, or so I believe.
24. This is a sad day for me. GGA was my home, for over a year and a half (two?) when I came into this world. I arrived shortly after PC left and the new forums were put up. I'll echo some statements saying, when Bilrow left, some of the glue holding things together wasn't replaced. It was a very slow downhill from there, but continuous. To see my old home disband, knowing that it was a long time coming, is still sad. I am happy though that GGA members have scattered on the four winds and ended up everywhere around Planet Bob. PhR, OFLC, Cerebus, etc etc. Best wishes to the remaining GGA members, good luck finding a new home.
Good luck to all other GGA members. I hope you will learn to build your nations more effectively after you join another alliance.
Would you say my nation was effective?
25. Is it because of inactivity, declining relations, or was there an event? I didn't see this coming but I haven't been keeping up.
