*By late morning today, the vast majority of Hungarian foreign nationals have evacuated Hong Kong, Tiawan, and China, and most have already arrived back in Hungary.  Only the Hungarian ambassadors to those three nations, the ambassadors' security staff, and around 100 brave Hungarian foreign nationals remain there.

Those that chose to remain have been instructed to stay indoors as much as possible, and while the provisional government does sympathise with Hong Kong and Taiwan, absolutely no Hungarian travelers or foreign nations are allowed to participate in any protests, mobs, riots, looting, resistance, or violence.

They are still allowed to have friendly, polite conversation as long as they completely avoid those groups and activities.*

The Principality's fleet had by now nearly crossed the Pacific Ocean, beginning to come into the vicinity of Japan's eastern waters.

An encrypted message was sent to the Japanese Government by the Fleet Admiral, requesting a harbour for the fleet - one of the largest to move through this ocean in decades. These ships had arrived to help Japan against Chinese aggression in whatever way was necessary. Even in war, should such break out.

The French First Fleet began to make its way to Japan, intent on giving the Allies of France the assistance they needed in. They left two thousand troops and ten Rafale in New Caledonia to facilitate the defense of the islands. The Fleet began to enter full alert status, the Corvettes doing patrols for anything that might be snooping on them while several jets were scrambled above the fleet to provide quick aerial support if it was needed.

Shanghai Royal Palace

Emperor Brian and Galen continued to watch the news of the events going on in the regions around them. "The people of Southern and Northern China wanted war with Japan but when the Japanese eventually overwhelm them they will beg for peace. And it where I will come in, either way we will be the ones left standing in China when this is all over and when the people will beg us to save them from the Japanese they will be given the choice of either joining us or be destroyed by Japan."

The attacks against the Philippines had been the final straw for the Empress. Kazuko was fuming in her office, surrounded by defense officials, it was time to stand up for the Pacific.

Hong Kong

the shut down of the internet had a drawback that the Chinese had not considered, one of the reasons modern protests are effective is indeed their ability to communicate. on the other hand, that communication allows for the more... radical elements to be kept in line by a leading group, the removal of communications had given rise to splinters amongst the hundreds of thousands, some were dissuaded by the riot police and stern discipline, others saw it as a reason to fight even harder, cars began being turned over, lit on fire to block the roads, piles of tires, furniture anything of use were thrown into the streets, the Chinese may have an army, but the Hongkongers were not about to go quietly into the night. riot gear of their own was fashioned from trash can lids, sports gear, anything that could provide protection from the batons and rubber bullets. Surgical masks and the occasional gas mask were common place in the numbers that remained in the streets.

Hong Kong had been an independently governed city for nearly a decade, the Japanese had come and provided additional security, not a shred of evidence of oppressiveness. While the Japanese had in the past done many terrible things to Chinese, Koreans, most of Asia really, their behavior since World War Two had been nothing but respectful and apologetic, there was no reason to believe this Japan would be anything like the one that had taken the world to the brink of global catastrophe, where the last time Hong Kong had trusted a mainland government the known world was destroyed, nearly every government completely obliterated in the span of Two Hours. Hong Kong would not take to occupation well, irrelevant of what the Chinese wanted to believe.

Taiwan

The Japanese forces had already ensured the security of the internet nodes, one of the first goals the Empress had set for the humanitarian mission was providing the Taiwanese with reliable and secure internet, contacting family and loved ones is a right and privilege every human should be allowed. Japanese forces would not allow the Chinese to take over the buildings by any means. Upon the attack, Japanese forces around Taiwan would be alerted of the hostile actions, the Commander of the Taiwan Mission would be with the Transitional Administrative Authority on Taiwan the Japanese had established, requesting permission to use the air raid sirens scattered across the island as a public address system.

"People of Taiwan, This is Wei Zhang, Administrator of the Taiwan Relief Effort, it has come to our attention the Chinese military presence on Taiwan under the guise of humanitarian relief is an invasion force, sent her to subvert the independence of Taiwan, as we speak, brave Japanese soldiers are defending the internet nodes that allow Taiwan access to the global internet structure. The Chinese are not here to help us, they are here to take our nation back into their fold, I say to all of you, do not help the invaders, we shall not become a puppet state, stay in your homes, I fear our nation may soon become a war zone for the powers that surround us."

The Japanese forces around the island would take up defensive positions and fire upon any Chinese whom would not respond to their requests to disarm.

North Philippine Sea

the First Fleet would launch its P-3 Orions and E-2C Hōkuai to search for the Chinese fleets in the area, upon any contact, two squadrons of F/A-18 Suzumebachis, and 1 squadron of Sūpāhōnetto, along with four EA-6B Fushin-sha would be launched on seek and destroy missions, along with the Asagiri Frigates, the Takanami Destroyers, Kongō Cruiser, and Amagi Battlecruisers. Abukuma destroyer escorts and the Hyūga Helicopter Carriers would be on ASW duty, seeking and destroying anything in the Imperial Seas.

:Public Broadcast:

Kazuko stood wearing her formal outfit in front of the Chrysanthemum Throne, wearing a saber in a Russian olive wood scabbard with cherry blossoms etched on hand guard on her left side, an ornate dagger on her right, and a golden hair brooch forged to emulate a star in shape, several yellow and orange gemstones inlaid into it surrounding a large, milky crystal, as well as showing engravings in classic Maya style. She was quite distressed but quickly calmed herself as the cameraman counted down. "-and 5...4...3...2...." giving her a thumbs up.

"I am Empress Hoshiko of Japan, I come to you world, disappointed in the behavior of the Chinese Nations that exist upon the mainland, the Republic of China has deemed it their duty to drive Imperial forces from Taiwan and Hong Kong, against the wishes of the people who live there, Hong Kong is blacked out from the global communications network, their attempt at doing the same in Taiwan failed. our forces are out numbered on Taiwan but the civilian government is supportive of our noble cause, the Imperium came to Taiwan to help our fellow Asian brothers and sisters recover from the conflicts that have raged across the world, the Chinese on the other hand sent an invasion force under the guise of relief workers, this cowardly behavior will not be tolerated by me, as the rest of the world should take action against such tactics.

Our Satellites have acknowledged a massive buildup of forces by both the Empire of Northern China, and the Republic of China, while neither has posted an official deceleration of war, recent events have led me to believe we would never receive one from these people, I had learned moments ago of the attack against the Philippines, Imperial Navy forces reported signatures that match the Chinese submarines, and communicating with the Filipino government had confirmed my suspicions that the Chinese are behind this brutal attack."

She paused for a moment, sighing lightly. "It is with great sadness that I must recognize a state of war between the Imperium of Japan and the Republic of China, until such a time as the people of Taiwan and Hong Kong are able to hold fair and free elections to decide their own fates, not be told what they will choose at the barrel of an assault rifle. We also call for a global embargo against both the Republic of China and the Empire of Northern China until they will agree to a peaceful resolution to this needless conflict, no Chinese vessels will be allowed through the Strait of Malacca, The Imperium did not ask for a war, but we will not allow such destructive and chaotic behavior to continue in the Pacific.

May Hachiman protect our brave soldiers, sailors, and air men who fight to defend the freedom of not just Japan, but the Pacific, and the world. President Lingyin, you speak out against imperialism and yet you are practicing it as we speak. May she find it in her heart to thing about the long term consequences to invading independent territories without any justification besides "these were once ours." China is three nations on the mainland, unify yourselves before overreaching."

Immediately after the speech the Empress was taken to a secure underground bunker designed to withstand direct nuclear strikes upon the Imperial Palace, hopefully she would not require such drastic measures she thought to herself.

The Empress appeared in an official public statement mere hours after the bombing of Japan.

She stood before a podium, addressing the press who had been invited to attend, "Ladies and gentlemen, I'm sure you all know of what has transpired in the Asian Pacific. Nuclear war has been opened between the nations of Japan and China, and many others have been caught in the crossfire. It is with a heavy heart that we console our allies in the region, the Japanese Imperium, who have recently been devastated by the attack, and pledge our full military support in defeating whatever enemies that present themselves."

"France must take at least partial responsibility for the tragedy unfolding in the Pacific region, if only because our efforts to reunite with our brothers in New Caledonia gave the Chinese the flimsy excuse they needed to begin enforcing their will on their neighbors. However, we reaffirm that we support the efforts of all nations to self-determine, no matter their background or ethnic mix, as the Chinese so often bring up as their reason to engage in hostility against people they don't agree with. Their aggression has now resulted in millions of deaths across Eastern Asia."

"And so, it is France's duty to defend our allies, and thus we declare open hostilities against the nation of China, with the exclusion of the independent area aroun Shanghai."

"The Principality offers Japan whatever is needed to subdue Chinese aggression, save for nuclear weapons."

[Classified - SatInt]

With the two fleets having crossed much of the Pacific, but not yet having arrived in Japan when the attack on the Philippines happened, it was given orders to set up in Guam and the surrounding islands for the time being - the islands were unclaimed by nearby powers and sported old military bases that could be used well. Japan was informed of this development, and assured that control of Guam would be transferred once the crisis had ended.

The fleets consisted of two thirds of Tikal's entire force.
Six Nimitz-class aircraft carriers, each carrying 50 combat aircraft and 30 combat helicopters.
Nine 'Battleships', modernised Kirov Battlecruisers equipped with advanced combat systems.
An equal number of Ticonderoga-class cruisers, similarly upgraded.
Ten Helicopter carriers, also known as AAVs.
Nine F125 class frigates and an equal number of Type 45 destroyers.
Five attack subs were busy scouting the ocean between Guam and China.
14 Corvettes (former 'Braunschweig' class) were supporting the fleet.
All in all, 62 vessels were there to begin supporting Japanese operations with the most modern equipment available.

The two 'Boomer' submarines already in the Pacific had been ordered to take positions near the island Palau and await further orders.

The Boomers carried twelve nuclear warheads each of 3.8 MTons yield. The other four missiles on each submarine were equipped with bunker-buster warheads to utterly destroy land-based nuclear launch capabilities.

A private message was sent to Japan.
"We have two Boomers in range. Total equipment of 32, with 8 bunker busters and 24 big guns for use against military bases, up to 3.8 Mtons yield. They'll never know who launched them, if you ask this of us."

No combat had yet been initiated, but all of Tikal was on high alert.

The Red Sea Republic condemns interference in Asian matters by the French Empire, the Babylonian Empire, and the Principality of Tikal. Meddling in the business of others is what started this mess; it will not stop it. Any violation of Republican airspace or maritime holdings will be met with force, if necessary. Edited by Hereno

The Republic has already issued a condemnation of the needless attacks on the Philippines, and sought to additionally condemn interference in the region by outside powers. As the French Empress herself stated, interference in the region by outside powers first chilled relations. Our side in this war is not with China or with Japan, but with the people of the world. A Kirov (Modernized) Battlecruiser and four destroyers are dispatched directly to Tokyo. They have orders to travel at full speed and once there they will collect the King and the surviving Legionnaires of his support team. Once they've collected said persons, they will leave the conflict zone at full speed to meet with a replenishment vessel near the Maldives.

Minutes before the Babylonian missile hits Shanghai:

The Shanghai Military Intelligence people had their computers tracking the missiles a few minutes after they were fired. Most of them were heading towards Northern and Southern China but they did eventually track one that was heading streight for Shanghai. "Why would they target us?" Emperor Brian asked as he looked at the screen showing the flight track of the missile about to hit Shanghai.

"I don't know sir but we have to get you to the bunker under the palace now!" Screamed Galen as he and the palace guards tried to get him to the bunker as fast as they could but just as they got down the stairs near the bottom it hit and the ceiling collapsed ontop of them killing Galen instantly and injuring Brian.

Meanwhile on the outskirts of the city at one of the Shanghai military bases Jesse and his squad heard the warning sirens go off and got to the bunker just before the nuke went off. Millions in the city would be killed by the blast in the city and many more would be seriously injured. The city's entire infrastructure was in shambles and so was most of the city's emergency services who's bases were closer to the city center where the epicenter of the blast was. The only parts that were not as damaged were the military bases on the outskirts of the city where most of Shanghai's military were able to survive in their bunkers built for an attack like that. There were a few bunkers within the city itself but with how little warning they had before they found out the missile was going to hit Shanghai there was no telling how many even made it to the shelters if any.

As Jesse was the highest ranking officer of those that survived he was made the interm leader of the Shanghai people and his first orders were for the military to get all of their radiation gear ready and then they were going to look for survivors within the city itself.

Through either the Empress's prayer to Hachiman, or the Strategic Defense Initiative of Japan focused heavily on the defense of the Capital, or perhaps even dumb luck, Tokyo had somehow managed to escape the death and destruction that had rained down upon the Japanese mainland. Kazuko was in the bunker system underneath the Imperial Palace, along with all the diplomats who were still in the City, not wanting the Chinese to harm any other nations citizens. After hearing the estimates of casualties she excused herself, crying in her room for almost an hour before she managed to put herself together. 6,656,440 dead instantly, another 13,301,360 injured, with more than likely half of them to be fatalities as well due to radiation sickness.

Excerpt from Statistics of the Effects of Chinese Nuclear Attack Against the Imperium of Japan

Kyoto: Estimated fatalities: 1,045,450 Estimated injuries: 1,672,620
Kitakyushu: Estimated fatalities: 550,360 Estimated injuries: 722,540
Kochi: Estimated fatalities: 269,370 Estimated injuries: 175,530
Nagasaki: Estimated fatalities: 316,500 Estimated injuries: 267,350
Osaka: Estimated fatalities: 2,717,860 Estimated injuries: 4,720,270
Yokohama: Estimated fatalities: 1,756,900 Estimated injuries: 5,743,050

At Minimum, 1/3rd of those injured are believed to develop Acute radiation syndrome within the next 24 hours.

Potassium Iodide stores originally produced to allow Imperial military to enter Irradiated battlefields were instead handed out to civilian populations in the affected areas, non affected areas were requested to provide medical supplies for Radiation burns. Clean rooms were set up where ever possible, using simple plastic sheeting and filtration systems, they weren't perfect but the numbers were overwhelming to the Japanese doctors. the Japanese military began wide scale med-evacuating still living citizens to non affected hospitals, within hours every hospital in Japan was overflowing, with surviving Gyms, Stadiums, Parks, anywhere with an open space being set up with jury rigged clean rooms to ensure as many citizens as possible were kept in an environment that could potentially keep them alive. Particular attention was paid to those in the >750 Rad dosage radius, as anyone closer to the epicenter had 100% mortality, military with radiation suits would roam these areas, providing anyone in the area with more than enough painkillers to make the next 2 days for them as comfortable as possible.

:Public Broadcast:

The Empress stood in front of a large Imperium flag, nothing else could be seen besides the flag and the Empress.
"The Imperium of Japan and the Philippines have come under an offensive nuclear strike by the Chinese government, we call upon the world to assist us in this time of great need for the Japanese  and Filipino people, 15 million Japanese citizens need Antimicrobials, Antifungials, Antibacterials, and any medical supplies the nations of the world can provide, with similar numbers in the Philippines. This unwarranted use of nuclear weapons has not gone unpunished and was met with the Japanese nuclear arsenal. We harshly condemn the Two Chinas, and consider them to be rogue states. The Imperium of Japan calls for a complete blockade against them until their surrender to the Imperium of Japan, perform a demilitarization, nuclear disarmament, and the arrest of the Empress of Northern China and President Lingyin of the Republic of China for crimes against Humanity and attempted genocide of the Japanese people."

Meanwhile not a single person in what was left of Shanghai knew what was happening in other parts of Asia. Jesse did hear reports of another nuke hitting the border city of Nanjing at the same time as the one that hit Shanghai. He sent some of his troops to look for survivors there as well but kept most of his forces in Shanghai to look for survivors there. He had no idea who it was that attacked them, they barely had any warning that any nukes were heading towards them at the time and since then all he could think about was finding his father (or his body) and kill whoever was responsible for the attack.

As they got to the ruins of the palace the chances of finding his father alive looked very slim. The radiation in this part of the city was nowhere near as strong as in other parts closer to the epicenter of the blast but they kept their Hazmat suits on anyways. They eventually found his father trapped under a lot of rubble. "Hold on! We are gonna get you out of here."

They eventually were able to get Emperor Brian out of the rubble but he had many injuries and had lost a lot of blood. Everyone knew he wasn't gonna make it but they didn't say anything as Jesse laid him down in his arms. "Medical help is on the way father. They will be able to help you."

"No they won't. Even if they were already here it is too late to save me. It is now up to you to lead our people, you must find a way to bring back the glory of China which the Empress of Northern China and President Lingyin of the Southern Republic of China have managed to destroy. We were not meant to go to war with the world but instead become a better part of it and become a great Empire which others would be able to follow. Promise me you not stop until this dream is a reality. Promise me that!"

"I promise you I will never stop until that dream comes true. Nothing shall stand in my way!"

In response to the call from Japan, three hospital ships escorting the Principality's fleet were sent to help, two going to Japan, the other travelling to the Philippines. Shipments of medicine of all kinds were prepared in record time, sent both by ship and plane from the Principality's mainland.

The hospital ships were equipped with newly developed technology. It was barely tested, though there were high hopes that it could help even the most severely affected people, the medical nanotechnology combined with some of Tikal's unique developments potentially making it possible to help near-dead people. With any luck, tens of thousands and more might be saved.

The Aircraft carriers Petain and Joffre, and their escort of five corvettes, four battlecruisers, two cruisers, four destroyers, four frigates, and an additional 50,000 troops carried on five Amphibious Assault Craft, as well as three dedicated transport ships and several cargo vessels, would enter Singapore for resupply before moving on to their destination.

The assets of the French First Fleet arrived in Nagasaki and began assisting the beleaguered people there any way they could, giving medical aid as well as assisting in search and rescue operations any way they could and transporting supplies from place to place.

The ships sent to retrieve the King arrive, they collect the King, and quickly depart. Decontamination procedures are implemented once they are well away from the devastating scene. Once the task force reaches the Naval facilities in the Maldives, the King will be transferred to a waiting C-5B and flown directly back to the Kingdom's finest hospital along with the surviving members of his support team for extensive medical testing.

"Given that we launched no such attack, I have to wonder if perhaps the Chinese had the audacity to attack themselves to attempt to portray their illegal actions in Hong Kong and Taiwan as morally just, bringing widespread destruction throughout the Pacific, the Imperium has made multiple overtures to settle our disputes diplomatically and yet the Chinese responded with an Invasion force, and are suspected of assassinating not just the President of the Philippines, but over a hundred other innocent lives in that vicious and unwarranted aggressive action, We can prove without a doubt that the original launches did not come from any Japanese nuclear material, whomever attacked you must have seen your nation as a threat to global stability, which leaves the list of potential suspects rather long I'm afraid due to the irrational behavior of your leadership as of late."

"T'is a rich statement, but most nations have the sense not to provoke nuclear war. We would also ask that you not rant about our 'murder of innocent lives', considering that your hands now run with far more blood than ours do. We would absolutely delight in finding out who, if not Japan, launched these nukes, and thereby we request samples from your nuclear processing facilities. This should not be too hard for the innocent Japanese, no?"

"The Chinese nation has come under attack by a Japanese first strike. No other nation has had an anti-Chinese policy anywhere as strong as Japan had. To resort to nuclear weaponry is nothing done over just the allegation of a missile strike, but out of a very strong hatred for our people. If Japan can prove it has not conducted the first strike, feel free to do so. Otherwise take reasponsibility and do not hide behind your accussations."

"Most stable nations, the actions of the Chinese as of late have been anything but stable, as stable nations generally do not launch acts of war against not one but two of their neighbors within a few days time.  The Dong Feng 5 gives off a fairly unique signature compared to a traditional cruise missile, you aggressively launched nuclear weapons and as such so we sent a response in kind, surely you do not believe we should allow ourselves to be wiped off the face of the earth with no reprisal? Nuclear samples will be sent so long as the Chinese agree to an immediate ceasefire and cessation of further movement of any additional military presence into Taiwan."

-Osamu Saito

"The Chinese have come under attack by someone other than Japan, our only nuclear attack was launched upon confirmation of Dong Feng 5 missiles with target vectors that implied imminent strikes against the Japanese Homeland. There are dozens of nuclear states, all of whom have seen the aggressive and irrational behavior coming from the Two Chinas. We do not have a First Strike Policy, nuclear weapons will only be used in response to NBC attacks against the Japanese Islands. We do not hate the Chinese, but we will never kowtow to an irrational and aggressive neighbor as the Chinese have expected us to do. So Long as the Republic of China can agree to cease further aggressive actions, an aircraft can be dispatched within a few hours to prove we did not strike first."
