With what pretty much amounted to a colonisation of New Caledonia by an outside power, the mood in Xi'an turned sour. Already before, the Republic had had concerns about the intentions of a French Fleet in the Asia-Pacific region, however now such suspicions had been confirmed. Without great delay, action would be taken, as an open letter would be sent to the French Empire.

Madames et Monsieurs,

A few hours ago, the French Empire has landed on Asian soil, seemingly attempting to re-establish its colonial Empire once again. We would like the French Empire to immediately withdraw its presence from the Asia-Pacific region and to renounce its flimsy claim on any Asian soil.

Additionally, we would ask the French Empire to explain its actions and to bring forth a valid justification for why no proper dialogue with regional powers was sought prior to this action being conducted. We see this as not just a violation of the Republic's Splendid Asia doctrine, but also as a diplomatic slight against our Great Chinese nation.

Failure to comply at least with the first demand will be met with decisive action, leading to forceful removal of your presence from Asia. We would hope France to have the prudence to take the correct decision.

With regards,

Huang Lingyin, President and Supreme Chairwoman of the KMT

The tailing submarines would keep their low profile, while loading heavyweight torpedoes into their launch tubes and preparing the VLS for missile strikes. Meanwhile, the carrier battlegroup centered around RCNS Sichuan would be redelegated from the Spratly islands to New Caledonia, to deal with the foreign nuisance.

To the honourable Jiang Lihua,

As you most likely have already been informed of by one of your many birds, the Republic most recently has issued a clear statement on outside colonisation, in accordance with our mutual understanding of preventing Imperialism in Asia. Needless to say, the Imperialist powers of France and Japan seem to have allied to undermine our position. As I already stated, I would expect you to do what is necessary, should the Japanese actually challenge the Chinese dragon. If necessary, one might meet again. Only if it is necessary though.

With regards,

With Japan backing the French interest, it seemed pretty clear that an action against the French presence would cause a wider war with the Japanese. Without the intention to overextent, the Republic opted to revisit the plans. The crosshairs would move from New Caledonia further to the North, the carrier fleet would return to the South China Sea.

While it is rather saddening to see Japan back a foreign colonial power, the Chinese nation shall neither back down, nor shall it forget this intervention on the part of Japan. A general mobilisation would be enacted, the strength in Fujian being increased to a staggering 500,000 and forces in Hong Kong being ramped up to 100,000 soldiers with accompanying equipment. Air patrols would be flown by 24 Shenyang J-11s above Taiwan and the East China Sea Air Defense Identification Zone, with orders to actually fire at any Japanese military aircraft sighted.

Submarines in the South China Sea would be redeployed East of Taiwan, where they would silently patrol in safe depths. The corvettes of the RoCN in the East China Sea would be redeplyed to the South China Sea and the fleet present there would be swelling reinforced by the three carriers and four battleships still left in Guangzhou. Covered by land and sea-based aircraft, including fighters, AWACS and maritime patrol, the fleet would stay vigilant, ever-ready to take on the Japanese.

General Ma, having conducted operations to reintegrate Macau would be sent with his troops towards Hong Kong, to ready themselves to take the cut-off town. The focus this time was on retaking the soil from Japanese invaders. Collateral damage was pretty much inevitable and was to be tolerated within limits. In the end, such could be issued as reparations post-war, if it became unbearable.

"Your demands prove you have no basis to ask the French to leave the Pacific, you would submit those who have no asked for your governance to your rule, without any ability to make the decision themselves, we have been welcomed by those who live in Hong Kong and Taiwan, simply because you claim the lands as your own does not mean they wish to belong to you, nor does it mean they have voted upon being incorporated into your lands, the military buildup on the mainland shows your government is just as Imperialistic as any other, should you attempt to wrest control of these lands from their sovereign people, We will be forced to treat them as Imperial citizens until such a time as they are able to make that choice for themselves.

Your nation publicly denounces the French whom have been welcomed when returning to lands that are once their own, and yet you believe the world should respect your claims, no, your demands, to lands that have not willingly chosen a path for themselves? Our military presence is not hostile, nor have they behaved in a hostile manner. We made an attempt to solve this issue diplomatically and had come to an agreement about allowing fair and free elections, a pity that a nation that claims to uphold democratic Ideals goes back upon them so quickly."

The response to the Japanese and French actions would not come immediately. Instead, the Chinese would just ferry additional troops from Fuzhou to Kaohsiung. The army in Taiwan was to be strengthened by another 20,000 troops. While not an easy task, it was to be expected to be done much faster than the French would be able to send any meaningful support all the way around Africa.

With all preparations finished, the 8th Corps would start to occupy Hong Kong, while the 10th Corps would move into Northern Taiwan. They would keep their weapons ready, but not fire a shot unless fired upon. The units would go surround Japanese positions in these territories and ask them to surrender or to face an assault on the position. In such an assault, the units would send in engineers, to open the way with ladders, ramps, and other useful constructions, and Chinese infantry would follow to apprehend the Japanese. In case they would not resist, they would be sent to the mainland for eventual repatriation to Japan proper. In case they resisted with their arms, they'd be opening hostilities and invite the raw might of the Chinese units in. Chinese units would not be firing the first shot in such a case.

Aside from these two Corps, which had gotten the most risky part of the whole operation, large troop formations would be standing ready on Taiwan and in front of Hong Kong to support these two advances, with aircraft in the sky above seemingly unchallenged and able to provide air support.

OOC: Well with what is about to happen with the potential war between the 2 Chinas (SRC (Southern Republic of China) and the NCE (Northern Chinese Empire)) and the nations of France and Japan. It is pretty much time where my leader's plans start to come to light. This post is Private but it should explain as to why my nation's leaders want to stay out of the fight for the moment.

Private:

Emperor Brian and High Councilor (Equivelent of the Vice President) Galen observed the events going on in Hong Kong and Taiwan with great interest. They didn't know how close they really were to starting a war over the island territories but if one did happen it would help lead to the United China everone seemed to want. "You see Galen when you wait for certain things to happen they eventually do. This war will decide the fate of China and possibly all of Asia. Others might think that what we are doing is against what we promised with Southern China but it actually isn't. Our agreement is to find a way to unite all of China into One Great Nation and at the end of this war that is exactly what is going to happen."

"So this is what you have been truely waiting for. The reason why you do not want me to approve sending our troops to help them against Japan and France."

"In a way I actually see them as our allies in what is to come. When they are done destroying the armies of Northern and Southern China they will be weak and the people will be calling for new leadership to take over. Someone who is not weak in the face of foreign oppression, and someone who can truely unite all of China back into ONE GREAT EMPIRE! Soon the time of the seperated China will be over. The Rise of the Dragon Empire is about to begin."

The Chinese would find it quite difficult to enter Hong Kong, over six hundred thousand civilians would be blocking any attempts of further military presence on the island, and protesting the actions in kind, "Go Home Mainlanders," "Hong Kong for Hongkongers!", "Where is Our Voice?", "Republic of Liars", were the most common slogans seen on the tens of thousands of signs. Though rare, rocks and bottles were thrown at the invading forces. the Republic of China may think Hong Kong belonged to China, but Hong Kong had their own thoughts on the subject.

The Imperial military presence on Hong Kong would not fire a shot but would vocally protest the illegal move by the Chinese government. They would not simply surrender though, the Chinese would have to force their way into the military compounds requisitioned by Imperial forces, not a one would fire a weapon but they would not help the illegal invaders hundreds of thousands camera phones were focused on the invading force, every move they made recorded, most of them uploaded to the internet or send directly to the IJNC.

:Public, broadcast globally:

"This is what Anti Imperialists stand for, the illegal occupation of a sovereign territory, We asked the Chinese to allow these people to make their own political future, instead they will be forced to make that decision with the barrel of a gun on their back." Osamu Saito was quoted as saying while footage of the protesters was overlain. "These people do not want to negotiate, they have no interest in stopping Imperialism, their only interest is in stopping the Imperium itself, China wishes to be belligerent towards its neighbors, they're fractured into three nations and yet seek out further territorial gains even still, speaking out against the French but imposing a far more sinister form of Imperialism themselves against the people of Hong Kong. Look upon them world, is the Republic being welcomed as liberators or invaders? "

The footage switched to rocks and bottles being thrown at the Chinese military, people shouting at the invaders. turned over cars lit on fire in the streets

"We ask China to allow for a fair and free election, moderated by a non partial outside force to ensure there is no illegal actions taken to allow these two people with their own unique cultures to make their own choices. The Imperium believes all people should be allowed the liberty and freedom of choice, the Republic of Korea joined the Imperium after a vote, as we believe all gains of territory should occur. Irrelevant of how we have been painted, we are not in the Empire business, simply the business of ensuring the safety and stability of the Pacific region, obviously the Chinese do not share our sentiments."

*The citizens of Hungary, having seen the news of the the Chinese military activity and the massive protests in Hong Kong on television and in the newspapers, as well as just having been given the freedom to hold their own referendum just days ago, have begun showing their concern about these hostilities in talks amongst each other.

Most of the Hungarian people voice concern, empathy, and sympathy for the people of Hong Kong and their current situation.

However, since Hungary is a "new" nation with a fairly small army, and Hungary's provisional government is still in place currently and is only meant to deal with internal affairs, minor diplomatic affairs, and Hungarian national security, until a President and Legislature or Parliament can be elected, the Hungarian citizenry agree that their is currently nothing their nation or current government can currently do to help, other than send Hong Kong their empathy, wish them well, and give them a little encouragement , from afar.

Meanwhile, Hungary must otherwise remain officially neutral.*

"The Principality of Tikal supports the Japanese in this situation. We believe that the Chinese should discard their outdated 'one china' policy. The people have their own minds, and from what we can see very easily that neither Hong Kong nor Taiwan appear to wish for subjugation by either Chinese nation.

To show the island nation its opinion, the Principality would send a grand total of 62 purely combat vessels on their way, followed by a plethora of support ships to aid against Chinese imperialism.

An Announcement from the Red Sea Republic

Because of the French Empire's harassment of nations on four different continents, the Red Sea Republic would like to reiterate our ban on French military traffic through the Suez canal and Red Sea. All French traffic that is of civilian or commercial nature will be asked to dock and have its cargo searched for contraband in Djibouti. Any French vessels which do not submit to search will be asked to turn around and leave. Any persons found attempting to smuggle military items on behalf of the French government will be prosecuted as spies to the fullest extent of our law. The government of the Red Sea Republic condemns the actions of the French and will not allow our waters to be used for such heinous crimes.

[Classified]

Approximately 20,000 reserve troops and 200 armored units on either side of the Suez are in place, and engineers are hard at work making proper fortifications. The Republican Navy has been put on high alert and can be scrambled to the Suez/Red Sea junction within a half hour. The Republican Air Force has been put on low-level alert and can be scrambled to any section of the country within the hour. The coasts of the nation are being fortified with additional artillery and anti-ship/anti-plane measures to enforce the ban on French traffic.

"Hong Kong seems to be protesting, they seem to want to split away from China." Huang Lingyin was a bit surprised by the news, but overall, still calm. It wasn't exactly what one could hope for, but in the end, it was what would be necessary. "There is one China and no more than one China. The Japs be damned, like hell I'll allow seperatism."

Military Police Song

The forces on the ground would be opposed by the occasional thrown rock or glass bottle. With the Japanese not showing much resistence, the Republic would start bring in the military police to quell these unrests. Armed with shields and battons, supported by water cannons and firing squads with rubber bullets, they would be well-equipped to disperse these crowds. They would use non-lethal force and their strong discipline to break up the mobs, to seperate parts of them and to arrest isolated dissenters once it came to violence.

Additionally, the military would occupy the six ports that connected Hong Kong's internet with the rest of the world. Special raiding teams would take over the buildings in a surprise attack, to not allow anyone to occupy these strategic locations before the military arrived to fortify themselves there. With the internet architecture now either running through the mainland or through Republican-controlled hubs, the internet would just be shut down. Jamming devices would be put into place to also cut off communication with any satelites, just to be sure that whatever happened now wouldn't be live-streamed anymore. Not as much as a letter would leave the town, as the Republic enforced a blockade. Not that Xi'an was going to back down from a bit of negative press.

Public

Indeed, the Republic could not back down. Throughout Southern China, angry protests would errupt, demanding an end to Japanese occupation of Chinese soil and a war with the Japanese devils. Flags would be burned and at times even the riot police had to step in, to prevent the angry mob from ransacking Japanese restaurants, destroy Japanese-made cars and hunt down ethnic Japanese in China.

lTGOKFv.jpg

The Japanese had mistreaded China for centuries now, for many it was time to right the grievances. President Huang herself would only make a short press release on the matter though.

"Japan held the territories of Taiwan and Hong Kong exactly once. When they did, they slaughtered millions of chinese, murdering them in the most cruel and inhumane ways possible, subjecting our people not only to war and genocide, but also to experiments of the most gruesome kind. China won't forget what the Japanese did to our people. It is most ironic now, that the Japanese try to return to their holdings with a policy of once again dismembering China. The Republic of China, will not stand for this. Taiwan, Hong Kong and Diaoyutai have been part of the Chinese nation for centuries. These are historically and ethnically bound to the Chinese nation. They were part of the Chinese Empire and the Chinese Republic. They were part of the People's Republic and even in the darkest of times, it was undisputed, that all these parts form part of China. The One-China policy, which has been followed by the People's Republic, which includes Hong Kong, and the Republic of China on Taiwan has never been broken and will not be broken. If Japan wants to revise history once again, we shall not let their lies dictate our politics and if they want to force through a seperation of these lands from China, this is an hostile act in and off itself. Japan has no place in China, these lands they occupy will not be allowed to become a new Manchukuo or a new Wang Jingwei government. China shall defend its territorial integrity against land-grabbing Japanese devils, by force if necessary and we stand dedicated to this objective to the bitter end. The chinese nation has a right to its territorial integrity, just like all other nations and to us, this is not up for debate."

-Huang Lingyin, President and Supreme Chairwoman of the KMT

Classified

Just like in Hong Kong, the Chinese troops would occupy Taiwan and shut down the internet infrastructure, which here would actually be less spread out than Hong Kong's at 4 hubs only. With far less protests, the military fortified its position and would establish a few fortified positions on the island, at which it set up SAM and ASM launchers and air defence radars, extenting coverage further.

The Japanese troops in Hong Kong and Taiwan would be given notices to turn themselves in for repatriation, or to be subdued by more forceful means. As the Chinese waited for a response, a few bulldozers would be outfitted with protective armour to resist small arms fire.
