Announcement from the Holy Republic of Levantia

Baba yetu, yetu uliye
Mbinguni yetu, yetu, amina!
Baba yetu, yetu, uliye
Jina lako litukuzwe.

The camera panned across the ecstatic crowd. Several hundred thousand citizens gathered in the streets of Windhoek, Salisbury, and all the other major cities of the newborn Republic. With the words "By the Grace of God" and "In the Name of the Lord" splayed across their banners, written on their shirts with cheap black markers, and etched into their hearts and souls, the faithful masses filled the streets in full support of the new administration. The journey had been long and hard for the Christian socialists of Levantia. Years earlier, many of them might have been killed or reprimanded for uttering the Lord's Prayer, but, now, they spoke the words openly in crisp Swahili. Although the words were not spoken in the native tongue of the region, they rang out loud and clear with a unifying thunder that brought both the indigenous people and the descendants of European immigrants together. English, Afrikaans, and German prayers also joined the medley of Christian voices. Wooden crosses of varying sizes rose from the crowd ranging from crucifixes small enough to fit into the hands of a newborn to massive constructions with complex etchings illustrating the rebirth of Jesus and the rebirth of Africa.

As the din died down, the camera refocused on three men standing together at the podium. The Khoisan Patriarch Sizwe II, the Bantu Speaker of the Conclave Simba Khamisi, and the Afrikaner Chancellor Albrecht van der Waals joined hands and raised them in the air shouting "Unity!" in their three respective languages and repeated it twice, once in English and another in Swahili. First, Sizwe the Second took the podium and raised his hand. The crowd erupted in cheers, chanting "Long Live Sizwe" while waving their crosses, flags, and banners as if they could shake the sins of the past with their gestures of faith and patriotism. From Sizwe's soft-spoken yet fatherly voice, it seemed like the nation just might be able to do so.
"Citizens of Levantia. People of the World. Brothers in Christ. Today, we have made the final steps in sewing the region back together. Our country, once torn apart by strife, once left to decay by previous administrations, once divided by language, race, and creed is now united in our faith in God. I urge the people of the world, the people of this nation, the doubters and the pessimists to cast aside their doubts and misgivings. Step into the light, embrace the path of righteousness, accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior as an overwhelming majority of the people in Levantia have, and your sins shall be forgiven. I pray that Our Heavenly Father will smile upon our nation as we move forward in the coming months. Lend us Your divine hand in rebuilding this nation, Lord. Amen."
The crowd broke out into applause and tearful prayers. A short intermission followed before Khamisi took the stage.
"Let us work together in the name of the Holy Father to build this country in the image of God's Kingdom. Race and creed do not matter in the Holy Republic. We all give ourselves up to the Lord and in His eyes, we are all equal. Equality, Faith, and Liberty shall guide us through the coming days. I know that we will struggle, but know that God is watching over us through each trial and tribulation. Know that we shall struggle together for Levantia and for God. Amen."
Chancellor van der Waals who spoke in a sharper, crisper tone took the podium after the esteemed Speaker.
"There's not much that needs repeating. Father Sizwe and Speaker Khamisi both understand how far we've come and are ready to help us go even farther. As Chancellor of the Holy Republic, I declare a new age of reconstruction and reconciliation. We shall ensure economic equality by centralizing resources within the Church and redistributing them to the needy, the industrious, and the innovative. As Khamisi said, we shall revolutionize this nation and remodel after God's Kingdom. As a symbol of our devotion to God, we shall construct a new city in his honor. Temple City, built on the Levantian coast shall facilitate international trade and house hundreds of thousands of Levantian citizens. We will also begin building new infrastructure and establishing new, expansive government programs that will enable the people to enjoy the fruits of the nation's resources. A faith-centered curriculum will ensure our youth grow into responsible, hardworking Christian adults and help drive the technology and innovation that will keep the economy strong.

We will focus on energy independence while developing infrastructure. We will build railways, roads, and mass transit systems to promote trade and tourism. We will also work to build nuclear power plants, develop biofuels, and other alternative means of producing energy. However, agricultural independence is also as important as energy independence. In order to become completely self-sufficient, we will clear out large swaths of forests and jungles, irrigate the deserts, and build desalination plants to provide water for thirsty crops and parched people. Last, but not least, we will begin rebuilding our armed forces so that we can protect the followers of Christ with an army of faithful."
Will your nation allow for religious freedom or will all citizens be forced into christianity?
Religious and political freedom shall be guarded within our borders. We believe in infinite paths to accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and savior. However, we make exceptions for religions and political ideologies that incite acts of violence, create hatred, advocate terrorism, encourage illegal acts, or promote immoral ideas.

The Union of Arctica issued an announcement extending diplomatic recognition to Levantia as a new state rising in the Protectorate. A diplomatic team was quickly sent to the state's capital with the aim of establishing basic relations between the two countries, as well as to lay a foundation by which the peoples of Southern Africa might work together in resolving cross-border disputes, as well as to manage shared natural resources that cannot be said to belong to any one nation, such as the artificial Lake Kariba and its dam. Since this is the first state to rise in Southern Africa in some time, the Union wishes to build up well-structured systems of diplomacy and trade with its neighbor.

However, many Arcticans, particularly denizens of Madagascar, find themselves displeased with the system of state religion created in Levantia, as many Arcticans have long lived in a secularist system and, religious or not, cannot approve of any state-supported Church, whether it's the Islamic caliphates that seemed to dominate much of Northern Africa not long ago, or the Republic of Transvaal, where any deviation from the National Party-defined norm might result in a trip to prison camp.

On behalf of the Government of The Republic of Texas, I grant recognition to The Holy Republic of Levantia to the fullest extent. In some places of this world it is hard to find a nation that will protect religion, let alone Christianity. It is unfortunate the certain governments will stop and force their people to abandon even the idea of religion so that they focus on work or worship the leaders themselves as gods. As soon as your government is fully functional and set up, Texas would be honored to begin diplomatic relations with Levantia.

"While the Triumvirate cannot speak on behalf of the all the people of Edean; as individuals, we would like to welcome this new family of people to the world and we hope that their struggles as a group will inspire acceptance and inclusion to people's of all faiths in their search for truth. While our religions vary, many people within the Free Kingdom of Edean practice Christianity and among Vesari, it's variant, Jesusism - although we are a people of many faiths and many use their freedom to explore their Christianity in a wide variety of interesting ways that might seem strange to you. While currently having a night out with his family, I am certain that Vivian would be urging me to say that the Kingdom of God is within you and we all hope that you will bring light and wisdom of love to the world as Jesus himself did and as he taught at the Sermon on the Mount. Blessed be the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God. May your greatest export be love." - Triumvir Gildas

"The inclusion of 'immoral ideas' does nothing to ease concerns, what exactly is considered immoral? Because it can mean a lot of things to a lot of people."

It's all semantics, but, generally speaking, we are building a country based on God. Immorality is a blanket term for offenses covered under our legal system and for special circumstances that our legal system has yet to cover. For instance, exploiting legal loopholes for personal gain, obtaining charity through fraudulent means, and so forth. We are certain that governments understand the special scenarios in which law fails to provide adequate justice. Here, the Lord is our guide and His Word, Scripture, that is, guides the evolution and development of our nation. We hope that other nations will come to respect that.

We would be more than delighted to have the opportunity to discuss important matters of regional harmony. Perhaps, we could hold a conference near Lake Kariba and its dam. It would be a symbolic gesture establishing the unity of this region.

Levantia considers religion a unifying force rather than a coercive, violent one. However, we will take Arctican concerns into consideration when shaping our nation's policies. Our goal is to promote peace and prosperity as opposed to strife and conflict. We are considering some structural changes to our current government and Constitution, within reason of course. We may moderate the extremes of state-sponsored religion and state-sponsored secularism with a monarch, but we are currently in the process of negotiating and finalizing the reforms necessary to restore order to the nation. In the meantime, Patriarch Sizwe II, Chancellor van der Waals, and Almighty God will dictate the direction this country shall take.
