1. We've fought LE in the past. We'll fight them in the future. We opted not to here for reasons that have been enumerated. However, a question -- before this skirmish, when was the last time that PS and Warriors fought? The answer, I believe, is never. There is a reason for this; while we'll fight people we like, we try to avoid screwing them over when possible. In this case, someone was getting screwed regardless...we were either going to screw over LE to the benefit of the rest of TE, or the rest of TE to the benefit of LE.
2. Polar Wars VI*: Return of the Platypi. *Rough estimate.
3. Saying that you're a fan of Gregg Easterbrook is on the same level as declaring that you're a massive admirer of prostate cancer. Otherwise, nice read etc.
4.
I agree, it's almost as if this announcement didn't need to be made.
It didn't need to be made, but we had to make it...we wrote into the charter that a DoS has to be made if the original war isn't a bloc-wide declaration. Can't quite remember why we did so, but there it is.
5. It'd been, like, an hour since a PF alliance announced something, and that had to be corrected. Also, though Poobah neglected to mention it, TOP will in fact be supporting TOP in this matter, if they are called upon.
6. CNtel led me astray! Let the pink and orange tied swamp them. Onward, Paradoxia.
7. I'm not even breaking out the standardized congratulation form for this one. Stop announcing things, you're taking up half the first page!
8.
turtling? like CD said, name names!!! seriously though, some people haven't logged back on during the holidays, but many turtling, i don't see evidence of it.
I'm curious about that, too...only 2 of our top 23 nations are currently sitting on zero troops, and that's EOA and Hannah, neither of whom are exactly known to turtle.

10. Congrats, Æsir, you've made really impressive progress.
11.
Damn Schad even I have more than that and you didn't war for five weeks. I missed on the other guy. I think in straight-up wars, I beat the crap out of Schad and lose to the other three here eventually. I'm slowly bleeding away cash and I wasn't as well funded to begin with as I'd have liked to be. Tho still better than Schad. Heh. You guys did a great over-all job of putting your nations together and funding them.
Heh, I've rebuilt from ZI twice this round, and bought up to 600 tech because WRC damage > everything else. Started this war with about $19m...I just have a habit of spending exorbitant amounts along the way, because rebuilding is for the weak and the competent. Never fear, I'll still have enough money to do what I always do: finish the round still nuking, but running out of both infra and warchest on the final day.
12.
Where is the review on xmas day clause?
We're going to review it every five days, by way of a die roll. Each number represents a different path; a one, we cancel. A two, we merge. The other possibilities are too terrifying even to mention. Glad this is done; it's been essentially an MDoAP in all but name for an eternity, and now it's official.
13. There look to be two double-digit streaks from the past four days (that's as far back as I went; about 800 nukes total, though many were against non-SDI nations): White Chocolate's 15 consecutive, (at odds of 1 in 32,768), which was split between two attempted nukers, and Bloop's ten consecutive times blocked, while splitting between attempts on two different targets.
14.
10k isn't nearly a large enough sample size. Need in the millions, 10% variance isn't likely, but very possible.
With a sample size of 10k, I got a margin of error of +/- 0.9%, 99 times out of 100; raise the confidence level to 99.9999%, and you'd still only need a sample of around 500 to for 10% variance to be a massive outlier. Unless I $%&@ed up the math, which is entirely possible.
15.
What do you mean "not active"? Last time we fought Charlie declared on me IIRC.
Not active = he's exceedingly busy in RL at the moment, so we didn't assign him targets. Insta-edit: apparently, while I was typing this, he declared on someone. Timing!
16.
I find it ridiculously amusing having PS begging people to hit them for making an incredibly, incompetent mistake. This thread is just so rewarding.
No, we're begging people to hit us because it'd be fun. One of the things that I've really wanted to do for the better part of a year (and have, at one time or another, discussed with probably half the alliances in the game at this point) is to have a challenge round: three or four alliances, comprising somewhere around 25-30% of the NS in TE at outset, declaring on day one that they would be rolling together, and would be rolling everything in their path. It would be up to the rest of TE to stop them...to put aside their flag ambitions (at least temporarily) and any animosity that might exist, and coordinate to take down the challengers. Anything else would be a go; come in waves, such that the challengers never had a moment's peace? That's okay. Keep an alliance behind to build up for half the round and stomp them with WRCs? That's fine, too...if people were able to deal with the idea of sacrificing themselves so that another alliance could deal the killing blow. If the bulk of TE came together, they'd probably not only win, but win pretty quickly; if the factionalism and secondary motives took centre stage, things could get interesting. I liked this idea because I saw a smaller version of that concept in it...we announced our intention, and the nations and slots existed (and still exist; I drew up a target list to be sure, and it's possible for every LE and PS nation above 20k to be engaged right now by nuclear nations, if one nation has the cash to tack on ~500 NS) to stop us, and LE, in our tracks; who wins beyond that is anyone's guess, but it probably wouldn't be someone from either of our alliances. But only if people are willing to throw their nations at the biggest things they can find, to coordinate attacks, and break us down over the remaining twelve days.
17.
I think we're going to have butthurt people coming after us next round regardless. My nation will have the same name...just so you know where to find me.
Oh, most definitely. And I'd come after us, too.
18. I can definitely understand this not being popular, and it's our own damned fault that it ended up going down in this fashion. As bcortell alluded to, we'd been trying to get together a much larger war for some time...basically, us + someone vs. the world, with the hope being to level everyone and everything (including ourselves and whoever we partnered with), and truly scramble the flag chase. None of that came to fruition; other alliances had other plans, and we ended up being left with two possibilities...hit LE, or just hit everyone else. So my advice to the rest of TE is this: if you're fighting non-PS opponents and they are so willing, peace them out. If you're in nuke anarchy, hit us when it expires. Hit LE. If the rest of you work together, you can actually drag both of us down...I've checked, and there are enough nations out of NA and with slots in range of their/our top tier to be able to cover everyone. Do so, and it'll be epic. Fail to do so, and we fully understand that we're likely going to be fighting for virtually the entirety of next round. This sucked on our part, but we kinda left ourselves without options that didn't suck.
Well, what are the chances that it's actually a Pork Shrimp member that wins the round, and we're all just looking at it in the wrong perspective with regards to LE's laxness? Or alternatively, like many of the past 50 rounds, one of confusion's flagrunners can always pop out of no where. Good times
Odds of us winning are probably 99-1 against; it's possible, but only if the win line gets beaten down extremely far, because we didn't set anyone up for it. On the flag-runners popping up out of nowhere, I'd like to see that happen...not necessarily to win, but if people coordinate and drag us/LE down, I'd love a scenario where this goes down to the last hour without anyone having a clue who could take it. There are nations sitting on nine-digit warchests right now, so it's definitely a possibility.
19. Heh, guess a couple people didn't read the war screen before commenting. Have fun with your war games, and I'm with Pansy...if you add so much as one nuke to GRL, you best not stop until there's nothing left of your respective alliances. We're only two weeks from getting below the cap again, goddammit!
20. You take something dear to our hearts, something that has already been cruelly torn from our bosom, and you make it something ugly and twisted and wrong. Not accept. I would like to formally petition that you change your name to the Wonderfully Nice Boat Alliance.

Yeah, there's really no fair system that wraps it up in a reasonable period of time. Not complaining; I'm kinda looking forward to it, because if we manage to survive the rounds where we're not importing (if a couple alliances in the group lose members, as an example, assuming I'm reading the format correctly), the stop-start nature of our tech system might get us further than we otherwise would.

Heh, (almost) all of our slots are synced, and our tech day happens to fall during the dates for the 61st-72nd round. But if we advance, we'll probably end up importing pretty close to zero tech during the next round of the competition.
23. The answer to all of those questions is a short laughing fit, followed by some gentle weeping.
24. Kudos to Legion for their victory, and to NSO for once against daring to set a precedent.
25. I support the disbanding of GOD for exactly one hour, so that the following half-decade can consist of arguments over whether they constitute a zombie alliance.
