  1. You missed Poppa Clam's departure by just a few months. I was never associated with GOLD but he always spoke of it very proudly.
  2. This is late, but... in my experience, I think the odds of all damages achieving max effectiveness tend to increase proportionally with the size of your nation. I think the rule is that underdogs have a chance to occur with any attack below 15%; but how often they occur most probably deoends on NS (tech/infra). At 4000 NS / 1k infra, I can attack with tiny odds every day for a month and never once get the underdog bonus. When I was 30k NS / 5k infra I got underdog maybe 50% of the time. But past 100,000 NS, you guys should expect to be seeing underdog damage with almost every low-odds attack. That is the whole point of underdog attacks - to allow weak nations to inflict some damage against strong nations even when they are losing a war. But I have never had a large nation of my own, so the only way to test that theory is to record the results of your own low odds attacks. It's also possible admin has changed it since I last looked into it. Most of these mechanics were designed back when the super-tier was 10k NS.
  3. All hail Rebel Virginia, true sovereign of Blue.
  4. An interesting choice. I remember the first coming of Doom Squad was in many respects equally swift and discreet as Doom Kingdom's departure presently seems, just like the sudden appearance and growth of DBDC. But Doomsphere's membership is well-connected, and I feel as though Planet Bob hasn't felt the last of its collective influence. Until your next adventure, enjoy the peace of the shadows.
  5. HEADLINE: Facebook Harbors Underground Sorcery Cell! BUENOS AIRES - Late last evening, the Policía Federal Argentina stormed the home of eccentric art collector and multi-billionaire Zos Kia on suspicion of collaborating with an international gold-smuggling syndicate posing as a small online community of amateur alchemists. Further investigation suggests there is also a close connection to another online organization called CyberNations, known as a meeting ground for an elite but reclusive community of political theorists and former government officials from around the world. "We've been observing their activity for some time via their online meetings, usually conducted through Facebook" discloses Special Investigator Hector Eduardo of the PFA. "It's just lucky we caught them, as there has been a big move away from social media since the last study released by Dr. Shabazz [professor of sociology at CNU]." Police have declined to comment on the findings of their most recent raid, but witnesses at the scene report seeing a large collection of very old books whose bindings were sealed with symbols difficult to describe. Last nights raids follow a series of mysterious disappearances at art galleries around the country.
  6. I think the issue most people have with social media (and the internet in general), rather than being "these other people are so happy and I am jealous," is actually that "these people are all so depressed and it is depressing me." The web is by far the most popular outlet for mankind to express its social despondency, often with far more frustration and emotion than we ever display in real life. I personally enjoy being able to observe prosperity and happiness in others, just to strengthen my hope that maybe the world isn't universally as bad as I think it is. So if all one's friends on Facebook are happy people, thank God for small blessings. But unfortunately, the testimony of social media, far from being "everyone on earth is happier than me!", is actually that the majority of humans are miserable, and everyone on the internet literally debates about which human being is more miserable than another. So yes... if all one's virtual friends on social media do nothing but link to upsetting news stories and express their opinions of the world's hopelessness, taking a break from Facebook can be a very good idea. Not watching news channels is also advisable (because those are deliberately designed to excite people for ratings). But ultimately, while the stressed individual is taking his "media break," he also needs to find that "Answer" which allows him to maintain his hope in the face of the depressing influence of the society around him; because nobody can run forever, and eventually we all have to make our mark on the earth. I have personally never used Facebook or Twitter... but I've been on the internet long enough to know what people mean when they say social media is depressing. I mean... look at the Boiler Room.
  7. I guess spongebob could have been a *STATIC SOUND* First Class before mako poisoning made him lose his memory and turned him into a sponge. I mean, Hojo made plenty of weirder creatures than that. That is what ultimately drove Sephiroth insane. "Am I... am I the same as these... monsters?!"
  8. Perhaps he made the mistake of connecting his email to his cell and got buzzed when someone declared war on him. "Who is texting you honey?" "N... nobody. Wrong number." "You're seeing someone aren't you!" "I... uh... that's right! I'm cheating on you! (Ha! She'll never know the truth!)"
  9. 8 years of midnight vigils and confession every Sunday. But I still feel like a young lad of 2.
  10. Your honor, My client would like to plead non compus mentus, and apologizes to your habeus, and your corpus.
  11. Outside of the small realism factor, apparently it is intended to promote users logging in. But obviously it didn't work in your case. :P It might be easier for players to understand if admin altered it so that we had to pay a higher interest penalty on our bills (remove the 5000 cap) rather than a lien on our income. It makes sense for creditors to charge interest on debts, but not so much for a creditor to interfere with a nation's actual revenue collections. I can picture private collections agencies kicking in the doors of the IRS to repossess their office furniture... :v:
  12. No need for regicide. The uncivilized age when a nation's citizenry would rise up to execute their sovereign after neglecting his duties of government for 25 days are in the past. In the modern era, societies watch over their nations in their leader's absence, very often inviting him to return to power to quickly restore all the wonders of their past civilization. :P We all look forward to seeing you again when your mind has been refreshed from all the stresses of your long and storied service on Planet Bob. Good luck on your journey, and thanks again.
  13. We're all going to Disney Land!
  14. With respect to my peers, I have to say I find the global community's perpetual stigma against young powers to be rather unattractive. What we forget is that the golden age of Planet Bob was not created by experienced leaders who had already discovered every angle in economics and politics; who were too intelligent to ever make a mistake; and whose ambitions were watered down by years of monotonous service for the sake of another leader's dreams (i.e., "joining an established alliance"). The great events of ages past were very often the direct results of inexperience - not understanding diplomatic protocol, or not being concerned with established political taboos - and the determined efforts of young leaders to overcome their mistakes is what has given us our favorite legends. History would, in fact, seem to testify that the more "experience" we gather, as alliances, the less action we are willing to take. So my advice will be in contradiction to what every other established power will tell you. You will never be happy joining your ambitions to an established power simply for the sake of learning the most efficient ways to increase your statistics. If there is a power in existence which seems to share your own ideals, and by that means may amplify your own ambition, then by all means associate with them, so that they may temper your spirit, and you may temper theirs. But if there is no such power, don't ever be discouraged in your quest to achieve something new. Get rolled with no hope of victory. Go months without full aid slots. Buy 50 cruise missiles, as Hyperonic has been jokingly seriously instructing you. Only being concerned about doing everything "right" will kill you far faster than doing a few things "wrong," but making your every action represent some part of your own dreams. Just remember what you want Independent to stand for, and you can find a way to enjoy the journey even in hardships. I will personally be much happier seeing you do that in your own alliance rather than having you join me simply to die away following my own boring orders. :P "The micros will inherit the Bob." And if we go by OWF activity, they already have.
  15. Awesome. Thanks for grabbing it Helbrecht. :)
  16. Is Independent similar to the old League of Free Nations that served as an ODP bloc between independent countries, or is it a traditional alliance operating as a volunteer society (no mandatory military or economic participation, but a common code of conduct and FA policy)? Sounds like an interesting enterprise in any case. Good luck in your search for new leaders.
  17. Thank you for volunteering! tongkzalot is posting daily updates now, everybody! :P

Streaks are here calculated by weeks rather than days, as I can only update the data that often (unless another community member decides to participate). This will also give alliances a chance to correct losses before it affects the record, while the numbers will tend to be larger and more stable in their trends. All errors are deliberate. 19. If we knew what the point of the game was, we would also know the meaning of life. I think many of us feel compelled to congratulate you on one of the most successful web enterprises planned and designed in a week, and probably requiring an absolute minimum of investment, regardless of its present and future state. Your idea hit the internet with perfect timing, as browser-based interest and technology were still on their upswing, and after ten years you have the distinct privilege among humans of being able to say that something you created was able to capture the dreams and emotions of hundreds of thousands of people (even if only a fraction of the whole 600k were devoted players). Even now, in what some would consider a much more "high-tech" era of the internet, former players and numerous competitors continue to mimic the CN idea (with only small alterations); and whatever CN's future might be, its legends and adventures have left a permanent mark on the lives of many. So treat yourself to a dinner on us, and raise a toast to eternity. Only ten more years to go.
  20. Enjoy your time away from the office. Somehow being obligated to log on and do something each day makes it seem less enjoyable even if you normally log on every day anyway.
  21. This is the form of greeting I chose for the introduction of the new Millenial Carol booklet."It's beginning to look a lot like... some... thing... Everywhere you roam. Everybody shops at the mall, to celebrate "AfterFall" Why even try to find a 'Why?' at all?"
