The air was thick with nervous chatter as the judge returned to his stand and the jury began to fill into their positions. There was no need to call the court to order - a hush took the crowd immediately upon seeing the somber face of the lead juror. The weight on his shoulders was clearly more than any man could reasonably be asked to bear. After two years of criminal prosecution and trial, with appeal after appeal, it all came down to this. Every breath in the courtroom was short. The judge spoke up. "In the case of The State against LE, BLT, RD, Catharsis and PS, for the following crimes: Forming a Nineties-Style Boy Band, felony, two counts, Recording a Song Which Fuses Rap and Bubblegum Pop, felony, seventeen counts, Starring in a VH1 Reality Show, felony, one count, and, in the case of LE and BLT, Being Seen Getting Coffee With Justin Bieber, felony, three counts, how does the jury find the defendants?" The court room temperature fell five degrees in an instant. A man hit the floor in cardiac arrest. A sweat-soaked lead juror wiped his eyes clear and fumbled with the verdict card. "We... we find the defendants guilty." The courtroom exploded in cheers as tears welled the eyes of the defendants. Two tween girls swallowed an entire fistful of Adderall and were rushed out of the courtroom to waiting ambulances. The lead juror collapsed into a pile, too exhausted to carry on. The judge, cold as stone, turned to the court. "With the verdict rendered, and in the interest of not dragging this out, I will render sentences now. I, Stelios, duly appointed judge of Planet Steve, do hearby sentence the defendants to death by radiation poisoning.
