SF leadership seemed to genuinely think that SF and MJ should work together rather than each waiting for their turn to be rolled, both for their own selfish reasons and to make things harder on MK and their other enemies. It definitely wasn't out of loving concern for MJ, but it wasn't them desperately grasping at straws either. The people running SF's egos are way too big to prostrate themselves like that solely out of desperation. At the time, it seemed as if MJ would be a very logical future target for the people running the show. Granted it didn't exactly play out that way and although a few MJ signatories either aren't doing so hot or are gone, the rest have done relatively well for themselves. But their future looked pretty grim from SF's point of view. Seeing how things have played out now, it wasn't a mistake, but it sure looked like one.

As much of a pessimist as I am, I must say that these are the only sorts of events you really hear about. You don't generally see news stories about human kindness; sensationalist stories about horrible acts of cruelty get ratings and sell newspapers. So, maybe, our perceptions of the world are distorted in a negative fashion by stories like this, and things aren't as bad as we're led to believe. Or maybe I'm full of !@#$.
