the 3-5 months or so following WoTC before things started gearing up for Karma... so. boring. Seriously, the fact that the "Christmas War" was a big enough event to get OWF attention and its own name pretty much sums it the lameness of that era.

[/quote] The apple metaphor was more commenting on the RoK:"don't do X or I'll do Y"-> NSO:"well we just did X" -> RoK:"ok then we're doing Y" -> NSO:"why did you do Y!?" situation we find ourselves in. It doesn't matter the circumstances, once either party makes it clear they're willing to escalate its probably better to take things slow instead of doing exactly what the hostile party doesn't want to have happen. Did RoK give NSO warning that war would happen if a specific action was taken? Yes. Did NSO go ahead and perform that action anyways? Yes. Did RoK declare war on NSO? Yes. Seems logical to me. If NSO wanted peace they should not have done exactly what RoK asked them not to do in the middle of negotiations. Actually, in pretty much any negotiation completely disregarding the requests of the other party is generally counterproductive if your goal is to find some solution both parties can agree on.

If there's an apple lying on the table, and I tell you "if you pick up that apple I'm going to punch you in the face", when you go ahead and pick up the apple don't be surprised when I punch you in the face. (if you couldn't tell; I'm RoK, you're NSO, and Sedrick is the apple). If NSO really wanted Sedrick for some reason, they should've worked that out with TENE/RoK before accepting him. Its pretty standard practice on planet bob to not accept new members until they've resolved their disputes with other alliances... because it can lead to situations like the one we find ourselves in right now. NSO are not bad people, their leaders just made the mistake of thinking they had the upper hand and could do things without incurring the promised consequences. You can debate whether RoK was "right"/"justified"/"valid"/"moral"/whatever-word-you-want or not till the cows come home, but that's not going to change anything. As I see it, this war is being fought as a sign that RoK means what they say, and that what they say should be taken seriously. Hoo told Heft that aid sent to that nation would be considered an act of war. Aid was sent to the nation... seems like NSO expected RoK to back down and "use diplomacy to work things out" instead of staying true to their word. Agree or disagree, the bottom line is Hoo spelled it out in plain English. At that point, the ball was in NSO's court.
