1. You need a good mix of both to for things to be entertaining. And you're absolutely right, back just before the Karma war most people (myself included) were having fits left and right about how everything was done in private.
2. I admire TOP/IRON et all for recognizing that the only way they would be able to win (militarily) against the C&G "side" was through a first strike, and then having the stones to go out and do it. Having said that... I might suggest better execution the second time around;)
3.
You don't consider sending aid to nations at war to be committing an act of war? So the next time Créole is at war, I guess there will be no issues if another alliance organizes $15 million in aid to each of the nations that you're fighting.
Imagine we live in a world where the majority of nations believed that aiding an alliance involved in a war was not an act of war to the belligerents involved. See what the difference is now? An "act of war" is completely arbitrary.
4.
GOD doesn't really care about sending the right message. On the same token, this didn't need a public announcement such as this.
To the first: That is painfully obvious. To the second: By that same train of logic Declarations of War don't need public announcements either. Whether there is utility to it or not, sometimes you want to inform as many people as possible; maybe you do it simply for attention, or perhaps for some ulterior purpose. It's something we all do: it only becomes a problem when it suits our purposes politically.
5. Nicely done, GOD. This sends all the right messages.
6.
You know the war is epic when NpO's mistakes multiply exponentially as opposed to just having you as a leader.
Hella crazy burnzilla alert!
7. I don't think it is possible (without great effort or skill) to completely separate your "IC" Persona with who you are behind the keyboard. I Do however think that people augment their personalities when they play this game. I know I have (and will) always make a conscious effort to be a different person on this game, and even people who don't whom I know in RL act very differently "IC." Having said that, I agree with the OP. A lot of the fun of war can get sucked out if everybody is all cozy the second the war begins. We all know that the technical aspects of this game are not very engaging, the fun lies in the inter-personal relationships we all develop, be they negative or positive. When those relationships feel hollow or manufactured the fun and conviction begins to fall apart. Having said that, Madscotsman is correct. If you find any enjoyment in tormenting people in ANY medium of communication, be it the internet or face to face, then you have internal issues that need to be addressed. No amount of justification makes it normal.
8. I, for one, will be adhering to this proposal to the letter.
9. You all mock. Legion had the stones to do something different; they took the theory of decentralized governance and made it their own. What courage.
10. I love watching closet anarchists' morale outrage when people tell them they can't do whatever they want to do whenever they feel like doing it. This war seems to have been fueled by 100%, weapons grade pride.
11. Five times. Four of which were the same person.
12. This is a long time coming, mostly because in all seriousness, I quit a long, long time ago. Between school, the army, and my girlfriend, I don't honestly have any time for CN, there's no point in nursing along my rather pathetic nation. Will I come back? Maybe, probably, I don't know. But right now in my life there's simply no time for this.) There are far to many people in this game worth remembering me to start firing off shout-outs. Suffice to say, that if you called myself your friend, then the feeling is reciprocated. Life is to short to actually get angry over something as silly as a game, I respect every single person I interacted with during my tenure, and I wish I could've met you in a setting that was more conducive to a real friendship. Thanks for both the good times, AND the bad times, guys. It's been an absolute blast, and I wouldn't trade this time wasted for anything else. (At least, nothing else I do on my own, fully clothed, with several thousand angsty nerds... I am aware of the paradox here) And to all the people who see fit to flame this thread, I leave you with this: Relax, take a deep breath, and stop worrying. You'll get over yourself eventually. Peacing the scene, Virillus
13. By far, the game's most underrated alliance is GATO. The passion, dedication, good will, and generosity in the alliance is second only to one. (guess)
14. *high five!* Also: Thank you, Maddhatter. I think the concept of an "overrated" leader is a contradiction in terms. If people like/respect the crap out of you for *whatever* reason, then you're succeeding, at least partially. Look at Ivan, whether he was/is a good elader or not, because of the admiration he got, he was able to come back and create a second mostly successfull alliance. If enough people respect/ed you that you can be considered "overrated" than you're doing well enough that being called as such would be a gross exxageration, at best. In my experience, there are far to many good leaders that don't get the credit they deserve due to not being a big enough troll or dynamic poster on the OWF. Ilselu1, Drai, Arsenal, Kestral. Some of the most amazing leaders I've met in this game were nothing more than company commanders I served with in a war who then vanished when it was over. Who here remembers the sheer brilliance that was InfernoMDM? The Diablo company leadership? Nick Danger? Winstonopia? To many good people for me to fit into one post, really.
15. No need to lie, Arsenal. You tried to trick The International, and the world into believing the treaty had been upgraded when it fact, it had not been. If not for Angrator, you would have gotten away with it too. Well played, Angrator, well played.
16. I thought I'd fix that for you.
17. It's a game, dude. You were plotting to take out your allies because it was something to do. It was a challenge and it left you more secure in your power. Acting like this is real-life won't work, it's not.
18. Funny, where were you when LOSS failed to uphold their treaty in an identical situation with GR in the war of the coalition? Oh, that's right, you were stroking their egos in an attempt to pull more NS to your side. The ODN was caught in a no-win situation, picking on them because of that is cowardly. (To say the least)
