Let’s start off with a bit of Dutch culture:

‘Carnaval’ is a festive season which occurs immediately before Lent; the main events are usually during January and February. Carnaval typically involves a public celebration or parade combining some elements of a circus, masque and public street party. People often dress up or masquerade during the celebrations, which mark an overturning of daily life.

'Vastenavond' or 'Vastelaovend' the last day of Carnaval, the day before Ash Wednesday, is held exactly 40 days (not counting Sundays) before Easter. Dutch Carnaval is most celebrated in Catholic regions, mostly the southern provinces Noord Brabant and Limburg. Most places adopt different names during carnival, for instance Prinsenbeek is called Boemeldonck and Eindhoven is called Lampegat. Carnaval here has been celebrated ever since medieval times and was modernised after WW II, when Bergen op Zoom even continued to celebrate it indoors.

Now we have that out of the way, let’s take a look at the most popular Carnaval song of the year, made by the famous Dutch comedian André van Duin: link

Purely coincidental, the last day of Carnaval in the Netherlands, was also the last day of AvengerNL as president of FOK. After six months he needs a deserved break and we thank him and his team (Mortale, Outlander, Timmehhh and Denniswerf) for an incredible run. Both AvengerNL and Mortale will stay in our FA-team, so you won’t have to miss them. ;)

Our newly elected FOK government:

President - MikeTheFirst

Minister of Foreign Affairs - Tromp

Minister of Internal Affairs - Outlander

Minister of Defense - Timmehhh

Minister of Economic Affairs - Ecnelis

#fok is, as always, available for beer and partying!

It was great to work with Avenger and the other outgoing gov. I'm sure we'll keep in touch.

Congrats to Mike, looks like we'll be working with you again.

Thanks for all the information on your Carnaval. It's similar to the Mardi Gras in New Orleans.
