A New Era

John Snow, Supreme Ruler of The Republic of Maine had called his Generals in to inform them of what Maine's policies would be regarding certain events in the past.

"Gentlemen, North America has been embarrassed. Europe has run amuck across our own continent and not had a serious challenge put against it. We will be that challenge that our continent has so desperately needed. Yes this SAS movement has stated their intentions, but what have they done? They still need to overcome the 'Empire' of Pravus Ingruo. We have no such limitations, we will take the fight to the people that have brought it upon themselves and we will make them wish they had never so much as dreamed of North America."

One of his Generals spoke up, "Sir, how can we possibly survive if we attack such nations? It would be suicide for us to even openly threaten them."

Snow stared at him coldly, "General Stark, if we do not put these people into their places then who will? You say suicide, I say destiny. It might not end well for us but everyone will know that North America is not afraid to make a stand against foreign occupants from half way across the world. If you do not want to be the part of this new era in Maine, the door is right there." He said pointing towards it, still with his eyes fixed on the General. He did not budge, he knew if he walked out the door it would be the last thing he would ever do.

"I thought so. Now, my faithful Generals, let us usher in a new era of North American dominance in North America. Let us show the world that we are not afraid of their treaty chains and defence pacts. Let us bring them to their knees and show them we fear nothing they can throw at us. Let us show them the mistakes they have made and why they have only got themselves to blame."

With that, they began to discuss exactly what approach they would take to make his dream their reality.

"So it is decided then. Gentlemen, these are our targets. May God have mercy on our souls. General Stark if you would relay the orders to Task Force November we can finish up here."

He stood and walked towards the equipment in the corner of the large conference room in Mount Katahdin.

"November, November, targets are as follows.

Douglas, Peel, Ramsey, Stornoway, Benbecula, United States of the Island.

Vienna, Vienna, Vienna, Vienna, Linz, Graz, Salzburg, Austria. All are central on the cities.

Porto, Lisbon, Athenian Federation.

A Coruna, Gijon, Santander, Monaco.

Beijing, Beijing, Beijing, UFE. All central on the city."

"Time to let them know why I guess."

*** Public broadcast to the world ***

"Today is the day the face of the world will change. I myself have taken the decision to utilize the weapons which my predecessor procured. The fate of the following nations was sealed long before I had been named Supreme Ruler. The reasons are as follows:

The United States of The Island, too long his this small stain of a nation passed comment against communism and gone unchallenged.

Austria, you took control of land in North America when it should never have been an option.

The Athenian Federation, long have you been the European holdfast, supporting the occupation of North America and even landing troops there.

Monaco, long have you held territory in the Americas, even before we gained independence. That does not mean you shall be overlooked however.

The UFE, protectorate or not the control of American land is not for Asians to decide.

There is no ultimatum forthcoming, the plan is already in motion. It cannot be stopped and will come to pass. This may be my last message to you all, but I really do hope it is not. With that, I bid you adieu. I've Been John Snow, you've probably been nuked."

Meanwhile in the Atlantic ocean off the coast of Maine, 20 plumes from ICBMs would be easily spotted as they headed towards their targets. 17 of them headed east towards their destinations while 3 headed west over America towards the UFE.

In Taipei, Ding was watch Commander for The Sovereign Initiative Strategic Command. It appeared twenty weapons were launched, most of them were fired at TSI countries.

Tracking the SLBM launch blooms, emergency orders were given to all citizens of Northern Cities to head to the fall out shelters, and for the Embassy in Vienna to head to the underground shelter. A projection for the missiles on a course with northern China was quickly forwarded to strategic command which forwarded it to allies with interception capability. Zargathia, Vauleyo, and Pravus Ingruo were requested to use their SDI capabilities to supplement the UFEs own missile defenses.

Ding gave notice to The Sovereign Initiative allies:
To: All TSI Commands
From: TSI Unified STRATCOM
Subject: Highest Priority Imminent Strategic Nuclear Attack

Satellites have confirmed the launch of 20 SLBMs from Maine Waters. Targets include North China, Portugal, and most worrisome Austria. Recommend immediate action to intercept. Our calculations show that the Germans and Athenians can engage missiles heading towards Austria. Recommend signalling Germans for Assist. Other targets include USI and Monaco.
A second transmission was sent to all UFE government officials. Jia was in his study at Zhongnanhai relaxing on the couch with a book when he was grabbed by his body guards off his feat and rushed onto a helicopter which was waiting outside before he could even say a word. Other helicopters would be used to evacuate the rest of the top level staff and their families. As they flew up above Beijing towards a airforce plane dread came over his face as the nuclear briefcase was open. Qi was in the seat across from him.

"Who?" Jia asked. Qi's face was grim, "Maine." Jia sighed, I didn't see that one coming. "Where is Theresia, where is Wei and the rest of the staff?" he asked concerned. His mind was racing a mile a minute. "Sir they're on the chopper behind us. Now focus! You need to give Ding the launch command RIGHT now." Qi said. Jia nodded. He picked up the phone, "Jia, August Imperator Launch Authorization, Charlie, Zulu, 3, Bravo, Omega. God save us." Jia said.

On the other end of the phone Ding hung up, "Strategic nuclear strike is authorized." he said. "Global Strike Wing and 2nd Artillery Brigade are given authorization to begin full scale attack. We were already at Defcon 1, so our military assets are on the ready. Inform all allies. We will be activating every single treaty to grind these !@#$%^&* into the stone age!"

Blasting off from the Chinese countryside, five SS-18 Satans carrying 19 megaton hydrogen warheads flew upwards over the pole to airburst over Maine, the blast projection was sufficient to ensure that the entire Maine land force would be destroyed, with the blasts taking place over their largest airbases (however the debris and wind would deny any jet aircraft the ability to take off afterwards due to at minimum runway debris). Meanwhile the Federation's Carribean fleet would be rerouted, and ordered to move into position to sink the Maine Navy.

The Maine SSBNs were visibile as they surfaced to launch their ballistic missiles. ArcLight hypersonic missiles lifted off from UFE attack submarines near the Bahamas, souring across the Atlantic to their targets just within range of the UFEs long range strike capabilities, aiming to knock out as many of the submarines as possible before they could escape.

Despite the ongoing civil war, one thing Long Island did have control over was the Empire's SDI system. With all the missiles having to pass over the Quebec protectorate to reach their targets, the nation would have one chance per missile to knock them out of the sky. A quick burst transmission was sent to all nations targeted informing them of the Empire's intentions, and pledging to inform them of the results the second they were known.

Upon detection of the launches the entire semi-automated system went at its highest state of alert, using a combination of satellite intelligence and ground-based assets would attempt to triangulate the movement of the missiles. Upon a confirmation of their destinations the more localized and of course the national systems would attempt to take down the missiles before they could impact. In this case both the missiles heading for Portugal, Monaco and Austria would find counters heading for them. An automated message would be send to the German military command structure for activation of their own defensive systems.

At the same time Genesis would commence its more controversial programming, the entire nuclear arsenal in the Federation was brought to a pre-launch readiness with only approval from a monarch needed to launch the missiles on minimal notice.

April 23 20XX

Athens
Private Chambers of the Empress of the Eastern Athenian Federation

Due to the time it had taken some time for the Empress to be informed of the events, Genesis Command had placed all of its defensive systems in both the protectorate and normal land holdings on maximum alert. At the same time it had successfully detected the launches and was now determining trajectories. The only real concern was the mostly defenseless Austria.

Obviously tired Ariadne was escorted to a guarded convoy which would bring her to the Imperial War Cabinet, the same happened in Rome where Emperor Moretti would head in the same direction.

"Your highness, our defensive systems have been activated, as of yet we are unsure whether or not the defensive systems of Genesis have managed to destroy their targets information is still uncertain." the personal lieutenant said while Ariadne was obviously weighing the options for a counter in her mind. It had to be revenge, but not too extensive to anger other American states, it had to deter other countries but not make the Federation look overly antagonistic. Eventually she decided she simply didn't give a damn and that revenge was needed.

Once she arrived at the Imperial War Cabinet the generals and admirals were already there, half an hour later Valerio would also arrive.

"Your highnesses, we have confirmed the launch is an action sanctioned by the Maine government. This intelligence has also been confirmed by official requests from the TSI unified command. We must act now and we must do it decisively" The General of Unified Command Antonio Silvano said as the other commanders nodded in approval.

"What are the expected civilian casualties for Maine?" Ariadne asked.

"Millions, they will hardly see it coming, our submarine fleet is stationed in the Atlantic and intelligence suggests they have no defensive systems."

Ariadne looked at Valerio who looked unsure but still in agreement with what Imperial Command has proposed.

"I wished I'd never have to issue this order. Five 19 megaton missiles, airburst configuration, aim for the centers of the five most populated cities."

She sighed as a touchscreen activated on the table in front of her, the same would happen at the other side where Valerio was seated. After confirming their identities a final sequence was entered which resulted in the big screen in the room showing a countdown.

"We truly have become death, the destroyers of worlds" Valerio said as it approached zero at which point the submarine captains confirmed the five missiles had been launched. At the same time Naval Headquarters issues orders to all attack submarines and anti-submarine units to start operations to take out enemy submarines.

The Military detected launches of ICBM's from Maine, heading towards China and the European coast. They informed Soliman of the situation, who recently heard about a broadcast from Maine stating his intentions to attack Novakian allies. He ordered the military on full alert, and ordered the battle fleet and troops in and headed towards the Bahama's to meet with the UFE fleet in the Caribbean. Soliman picked up the secure line to the General in charge of Novak's strategic nuclear command, in a bunker within the vast desert. He informed him of the situation and told him to prepare to launch. He spoke half the key needed to launch the weapons. The general entered the full code, and proceeded to start the launch process. Two silos in the mountains opened. The countdown began.

"So it seems, this will be the first use of nuclear weapons by Novak in its long history." an enlisted fellow told the General.

"Yes, it will be, and hopefully the last. Never in our history has this many of our allies been attacked with nuclear weapons. We will ensure people think twice before they do so in the future." he replied back.

"You believe we'll be an effective deterrent?"

"I believe our arsenal is Novak's best deterrent."

"Well, Maine's citizens are about to feel what it's like to be hit by a nuclear weapon."

"They won't feel a thing." the General replied with a chuckle in his voice.

With the countdown complete, five 19 megaton warheads would head towards the country of Maine.

Strategic Rocket Forces RADAR Forward Base

*beep* *beep* *beep*

"What is going on?"

"Missile Warning this is Alpha. Stand by for confidence reporting."

"SSCO no malfunction."

"Missile warning no malfunction."

"Missile warning to Alpha. Confidence is high. I repeat confidence is high. I want to confirm. Is this an exercise?"

"I'd like to confirm. This is not an exercise."

Strategic Rocket Forces Air Mobile Command

"We have predicted impact of moderate count at this time."

"We have four sea launched ballistic missiles inbound. Heading towards Austria."

"We have received confirmation from Strategic Forces Command to extend SDI support to Vienna, Austria"

"Yes, sir"

Tbilisi

Despite the fact that the ICBMs were not targetted towards the Empire, various strategic precautions went into action. The Autarch and other government members quickly exitting the capital, heading into the heavily fortified and well constructed underground bunkers. Sirens began to sound in all the cities, alerting civilians to take cover if necessary is special safety zones.

Inside of the bunker, the Autarch demanded answers.

"Where are these missiles headed?"

"My Autarch, they are headed all over the place. We expect a majority of allies to be hit, with Austria being the closest one."

Visari shook his head, "As I said before, I want us to block whatever we can heading towards Vienna. If those missiles hit, we'd be effected by the fallout. In addition, I want a full retaliatory strike!"

"Yes, Autarch."

Strategic Rocket Forces Command

"We have been given authorization from the Autarch to launch a retaliatory strike."

"What are the targets?"

"Maine. He wants the entire place blanketed."

"Well, so be it."

Within two minutes, two V-2012 Intercontinential Ballistic Missiles launched into the skies, heading towards Maine. Both of these missiles were equipped with four Inertial with Stellar Sensor Update and Terrain Matching Radar guided MaIRVs. The MaIRVs inside of the missiles were 1.3 Megatons each.

When the missiles that had to go over Nova Scotia to get to Europe flew over the country, the Nova Scotian military was powerless to shoot down the ICBMs before they could ever reach their targets simply because the small nation had no anti-ballistic missile systems in place. Instead, all the Nova Scotians could do was watch helplessly as the missiles streaked towards their targets a continent away.

Afterwords, Nova Scotia was on lockdown. The military was dug-in, civilians were evacuated to Nova Scotian territory far away from Maine, and the DEFCON level was lowered to 2. This was done because, due to the close proximity the country had to Maine, the literal fallout from other nations' reactions to Maine would be devastating on the already fragile nation.

SCADF Atmospheric Operations Command

"We got missile launches, repeat, we got missiles in atmosphere," said a technician, as the large wall map of the world suddenly had a number of dots blinking red, all originating from close to the Gulf of Maine.

"Do we have trajectories on them?" asked the naval lieutenant in charge of AOC for that shift.

"Working them out now sir," called out another tech, as the red warning lights went on. The tech quickly called back, "Sir, looks like these missiles are destined for Europe and the Orient. We won't know more until they get farther into atmosphere."

"Communications, I need a patch through to the Governor General," called out the lieutenant.

Governor General's Residence - Gold Coast

"Thank you lieutenant, keep me posted," nodded Robert Abel, as the lieutenant reported the situation. He had been in a meeting with Prime Minister Whittaker, talking about the upcoming election when the news came through, and her face had turned grave with his. As he hung up the phone, she cocked an eyebrow, and looked at him.

"What's wrong, Robby, looks like you've seen a ghost," she remarked, looking with some concern at the usually upbeat and ever-kind smile he had pasted on his face.

"Atmospheric Operations just detected multiple launches from Maine just a few minutes ago, ballistic missiles," he said, with a grave tone. The Prime Minister covered her mouth with one hand, and stood up.

"Are we in danger? Where are they headed?" asked Whittaker, in a calm but concerned voice.

"Apparent trajectory is taking them towards the Orient and Europe," sighed Abel, rubbing his face for a moment. The door opened, and an aide quickly ran in with a sheet of paper that was still warm, having come just off the fax machine. Abel read it quickly, and put the sheet down, and sighed quietly. "The United Federation of the East just declared war on Maine, and activated our treaty, they got missiles inbound on the Federation."

Whittaker seemed to look on helplessly at the news of nuclear missiles flying, and looked at the aide, "Is there any new word on where those missiles are headed?"

"No ma'am," she said, shaking her head, before turning back to Abel, "Sir, should I send a response to the UFE?"

"Flash a message to the UFE's Imperator, tell him they have our full support, Jackie," he said, as he picked up the phone, and tapped the speed-dial for the Defense Minister, Ian Brown. "You clued in Ian?" he asked, listening for a moment, before continuing, "Listen, I want Incident Response Regiments One through Three to report to their nearest airbase, and I want transport and refueling aircraft ready to go and at those airbases as soon as humanly possible. Wherever those missiles strike, there is going to be a mess, and people and other governments are going to need help. I want the Long-Term Expeditionary Medical unit on standby alert, and the military to be ready for humanitarian relief, food, medicine, blankets, essentials, things are going to get busy over the next twenty four hours."

After listening for a moment, he thanked the Defense Minister, and put the phone back on its hook.

"What do you think will come of this, Robby?" asked Whittaker, very quietly as she looked hard at the Prime Minister.

"Hopefully it is just a bad dream," sighed Abel, as he looked up at the Prime Minister, who looked helplessly out the window at the beautiful day outside.

"How can such a terrible thing happen on such a nice day?" she asked, as she looked out the bay windows towards the beach that his residence overlooked. The birds were chirping outside the window, the ocean could just be faintly heard lapping at the shores. He just shook his head, unable to come up with an answer to that query, because frankly, he didn't know...

"Achtung!"

Everybody rises in the General Staff meeting room, Lord de Keizer's entrance having just been announced.

"What is going on? Are those missiles really on the air?"

"That is so, Herr de Keizer. Almost everyone that is about to be hit by these weapons is allied to us."

"Well, this is a disaster...reach our SDI Center, have them see if they can take a shot at any nukes that may pass over our lands. Odin Willing, some of us may be saved. Also I want our satellites watching Maine, we need to immediately organize a large scale strategic strike to try and disrupt their nuclear facilities."

----------

The Germanic Satellites would start to examine Maine. The Luftwaffe's long range bombers take off towards America, the Kriegsmarine too heads there and will deploy its own fighter squadrons to protect them eventually. Several Missiles are launched at Maine - but none hit. They were only "Scout Missiles", that is missiles armed with a variety of cameras and sensors in order to get more detailed information that satellites might miss.

Everyone rushes into their Bunkers just in case...

There has been an amount of forces stationed in Maine leftover from when Pravus Ingruo may have attacked the area. They were about to be shipped back to Netherlands on this same day, but then, the news come...they are made to get their gear on, and transmit their location to their allies so that they might not be victims of friendly fire.
35.500 Soldiers

15 Attack Helicopters
Additionally, the Kriegsmarine's Submarines have in fact already been around that area, but only 10 Skjold Boats were present. The rest of the boats were at home.

The forces waste no time. All aircraft go airborne and go on a rampage to try to destroy Maine's own airforce before it'd be even able to take off, the land forces lash out in all directions in a surprise attack before the enemy can react, and they try to in fact scatter, knowing that if Maine were to get it's act together, they might otherwise be a compact target, and an outnumbered force at that.

It was Blitzkrieg from inside out. The Germanic Soldiers received orders not to do anything overly risky, to scatter and wait for the Polish Reinforcements to arrive. After the initial onslaught of theirs, their action modality would change to that of Guerilla Warfare.

At the same time, some 100 non-nuclear missiles were launched towards Maine in a hurry so as to provide some assistance to the Germanic Expeditionary Forces there, these missiles' primary target is taking out the Nuclear Capabilities of Maine, with the use of images they try and target just about everything that would look suspicious. If Bunkers are found, special Bunkerbusting missiles are then used instead. Others which seemed to be military bases would be hit by 10 MOAB-ICBMS...

They were setting fire to the world.

"We henceforth declare war upon Maine for their usage of wholly unprovoked Nuclear Weaponry upon civilian targets, most of which are Allied Nations of ours, furthermore, an Attack upon our southern brethren in Austria is an attack upon Germanic Union."

OOC: The position of the troops was not specified when i deployed them, but I suppose that they should be by the Pravus Ingruan border for obvious reasons.

Strategic Command Center in Bhopal detected the ICBM launch within seconds and calculated the launch trajectory. With horror the SCC officers realized that some ICBMs are headed towards the United States of the Islands. Immediate alert signals would be sent to the Task Force 193 currently stationed off the coast of USI to take all measures to defend itself from the nuclear attack. The warships of TF193 would surge out to sea and spread themselves around but nothing would save the men and women of the Corps of Engineers working on Fort Anchengo in Barra if the nuclear attacks did occur.

The nuclear launches had been detected and reported to Buryatia Strategic Forces Headquarters and the Buryatian President Anna Petrov. She ordered an immediate response in support of their UFE allies.

Five C-15 Poker Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles each carrying a Fifty Kiloton Warhead would be fired at Augusta, Brunswick, Lewiston, Rockfield and Waterville. This would be the first nuclear launch in Buryatia's history.

The launches towards Valencia were detected by the Strategic Defense Wing of the Armed Forces. Immediately the Royal families were sent to their underground centres as a possibility of more attacks existed.

As soon as the launches were detected the Prince of Monaco had entered the launch codes for the Submarines in New Monaco to fire five nuclear missiles at Maine's most populated cities and then they were to destroy any enemy naval ships. The Strategic Defense Wing had started the process of shooting down the incoming missiles ( Will be successful or fail only after rolls ;) ).

Further 25 Non-Nuclear Missiles were launched at the capital of Maine.

The four Vanguard Class submarines off the coast of Maine recieved orders from Whitehall clearing the usage of their WMD stockpile.

Using intel recieved through Operation Perrepat, 50 5000Ib thermobaric ICBM's launched from the submarines towards military installations in Maine.
Specific targets were Radar installtions, communication posts and power substations. Several missiles would also fire at Command and Control HQ's for Maines ground forces co-ordination.

Secure transmissions would be sent to all forces in the theatre regarding the launches and their targets.

Fully two submarine squadrons, ISS1 and ISS3 composed of 12 attack submarines have now fanned out into North Atlantic Ocean in the hunt for the Maine's nuclear submarines. Supporting it is the Aircraft carrier CNS Cochin surged out from St Helena and the CNS Malabar from Barra, USI along with a host of surface warships all now devoted to anti submarine warfare.

The Strategic Reconnaissance Agency and the Section 323 has determined the locations of the Maine's submarine assets and now assisted by squadrons of ASW Metacs the hunt is on now to destroy the nuclear criminals. Intelligence is being shared with all the militaries that bare now joining in the hunt. Oceanic Reconnaissance Ships from navy'a Auxiliary Support Fleet are also providing passive support in the form of monitoring of ELF communication traffic that may be used to further triangulate upon Maine's submarines.
