A New Era

At first, the warning lights going off in the Zargathian SDI system went unnoiticed for several costly minutes, mostly due to inexperience of the base personnel. It was only when a message had come in from the UFE that confirmed these readings that the base was essentially put on high alert. Calls were made to the members of government, and a flight path was calculated for the approaching missiles to see if any Zargathian cities could have been potential proximity targets. By the time the fighters were ready to scramble and the first wing was underway to the last remaining missile, radar feed had shown that the UFE had successfully destroyed the last remaining threat. After the pilots had received the order to abort the mission and return, the Migs returned to their respective air bases.

The failure to deploy on time was taken highly however, and more drills were scheduled to increase personnel efficiency. In addition, the entire process had been made more streamlined, the SDI base given increased autonomy to improve overall reaction speed. Interceptors would still need government approval to engage a target, but the SDI could now issue orders to launch the fighters in anticipation of the phone call.
FREE ASSOCIATION DECLARATION OF WAR

Pursuant to our treaty with the United States of the Island, the Free Assocation unequivocally stands next to our ally in the face of unwarranted foreign aggression. We condemn the haphazard release of nuclear weapons and innocent loss of life, and declare a state of war between the Free Association and Maine until such a time that the United States of the Island has declared an end to the conflict.
Three cargo ships bearing aid have been dispatched to the affected area of the USI. In addition, 100 NRBC Emergency workers have been sent to the island struck with a nuclear weapon in order to help the USI maintain order and begin relief efforts. Finally, the Steward informed his USI counterpart that the Free Association was willing to send a squadron of fighters and 1,000 peacekeepers to maintain order in the USI if requested. No plans were made to directly attack Maine as this was seen as a waste of resources when half the world was already fighting them, however the Free Association was prepared to do what the USI asked of her.

The nuclear strikes hit both fleets killing all the crew aboard every ship... or did they... only time would tell...

All 12 EA-18Gs were knocked out of the sky, not a single pilot ejected safely. The F/A-18Es formed defensive formations and fired of their LRAAM towards where the incoming fire came from, hopefully being able to take out some of the attackers before they were all shot down, moving towards their targets at the same time. All 108 were airborne, but over time all 108 were shot down.

All four missile strikes hit the underground bunkers causing them to cave in and in some cases leave only a crater. Those stations would not fire any more ordinance.
Missiles coming in at the Tu-160s would begin falling into the Atlantic as their guidance chips were taken out one after another by extreme surges of energy. The Tu-160 pilots were running like hell to get out of their and could barely see what did it. Not even a small glitch was showing up on radar or IR. One would report in an after action report about closing in on what could barely be made out. It appeared to be an UFO and was traveling at super sonic speed, only for it to rapidly accelerate upwards towards space in manner the pilot had never seen before. The incident would be reported in several logs as the "Angels of the Atlantic".

With the skies cleared of hostiles, 20 B-9 stealth bombers began making raids against Maine. Each B-9 was equipped with two massive ordinance bombs. The bombs were used against positions which SAT INT had indicated had major excavation over the course of Maine's independent history.

UFE P-8s flew over the Atlantic now armed with magnetic anomally detectors, advanced thermoscopes, and sonar bouys, using the maximum realistically realized speed of a ballistic missile sub underwater and the points of initial launch as a guide for forming a network of sensors and closing in on the enemies submarine fleets. Fast moving littoral combat ships would lead the UFE search with it surface fleet.

With the surface fleets neutralized, an initial landing party of 25,000 troops secured Mt.Desert Island and also the town of Bar Harbor. While there, the men set up radiation detectors and charted the readings they received radioing back to the ships every half hour with the readings.

OOC: Hang on a darn tooting second, I still have ASM defences along the coast. RP your approach to Maine please.

OOC: lolwut? Wise the $%&@ up, take a hit or two :P

As it became clear that Maine's underground bunkers were being systematically destroyed, even though there was no way they could possibly be spotted by satellites having been there for years, the 5 AA Stations nearest to those bunkers being attacked began to open. However, one had it's opening mechanism damaged in a previous attack and was inoperable. The other four activated their multi-band radars. Each station would receive reflected signals off the stealth craft from the other stations making detection easier.

All in all, 40 S-400 Missiles were launched at the incoming bombers.

OOC: Dude, you've been nuked to !@#$, I am sorry but every inch of Maine has been nuked. I will continue RPing as if you have nothing left.
IC: Heavy fire was taken from the sea based defences of Maine, 4 troop carrying ships totalling 25,000 men were sunk immediately leaving the sea stained red with blood. In the majority of the ships however, a few bullet holes pockmarked the metal skins of the landing vessels and overall, wave after wave of troops kept pounding ashore.

OOC: Not true, no-one has attacked any AA CM or ASM stations as they did not know they were there except the ones ASBMs were launched from that is.

Another ASM station opened up and fired a volley of 10 BrahMos II missiles at the approaching vessels.

OOC: You have close 10 or more thermonuclear missiles fired at you. That will obliterate almost everything especially in a concentrated area like yours. You really do not have any strategic depth to have anything unaffected.

OOC: I believe I launched five nuclear weapons at your coasts specifically so wouldn't that obliterate your coastal defenses?
OOC: I assumed they were at my SSBNs which I am about to RP the destruction of as I missed those missiles. I had already stated this in the GMs Court.

IC: The 5 missiles hit where the SSBN were located. The enormous increase in pressure caused by the detonation of the nuclear warheads caused the hulls of both SSBNs to breach. All hands went down with their boats.

125,000 men and 1250 armour (with a same number of less armoured vehicles) streamed down the roads leading to Maine's "Great Wall". As they marched, missiles designed originally for bunker-busting slammed into areas along the wall 200m apart, eliminating the static fortifications. A 5km area (large enough so that any existing defenses not eliminated couldn't do anything) along the wall this was done to. In addition, a single non-nuclear EMP was blasted along the area previously, eliminating anything that survived the nuclear EMP blasts already.

The roads leading up to the wall were not mined, so the fast-moving soldiers and armour were able to speed through with little effort. The portions of wall "gating" the roads were blasted with bunker-busters as well and cleared within an hour. Normal cruise missiles, about two dozen in all, streamed through the sky and blasted positions of the 50,000 soldiers nearest the advancing Boston First Army, and the soldiers, using radiation equipment adapted from technology used all over the world (such as in Europe, Rebel Army, and by Artemis), advanced into the irradiated !@#$hole of a nation.

They would cross from end-to-end within the day - there was no resistance past the initial border wall.

The northern most Type-97 Submarine was SSN Binary. It was armed with a variety of weapons capable of causing havoc to type of naval vessel. The most potent weapon it had available was the Tomahawk Cruise Missile, but not just any Tomahawk Cruise Missile. These were armed with nuclear warheads, with a variable yield from 5kt up to 200kt. For the task at hand they would be set to 200kt.

Ensign Jackson was the sonar operator aboard the Binary. A young man, just out of Maine's Naval Academy a month ago he was the newest recruit aboard the Binary. The advanced sonar of the Type-97 was capable of tracking a vast amount of targets at great ranges, and it was certainly being used to it's maximum capability today.

"XO, this is sonar control. Picking up large movement of ships bearing 299. Range 600 nmi. They're approaching Maine at speed Sir."

"Roger that Ensign." He turned to his captain, "Sir we have a vast fleet approaching Maine. What are your orders?"

"Load tubes one through three with Tactical Tomahawks. Target three points equal distance apart along the centre of the fleet. Full yield."

"Roger that sir." The XO picked up the phone beside him, "Weapons room, this is the XO. Load tubes one through three with Tactical Tomahawks. Target three points equal distance apart along the centre of the fleet. Full yield." He handed the phone to the captain.

"This is Captain Spence, authentication code is Bravo, Bravo, Niner, Alpha, Zulu, Zulu, Tango, Niner. This is not a drill. I repeat, this is not a drill."

The Weapons officer simply replied, "Bravo, Bravo, Niner, Alpha, Zulu, Zulu, Tango, Niner. Authentication confirmed, loading tubes one through three with Tactical Tomahawks. Target three points equal distance apart along the centre of the fleet. Full yield. ETA 14 minutes."

Fourteen minutes later the weapons officer called the XO, "Sir, tubes are loaded and ready to fire. Request captain insert key to proceed with launch, Sir."

"Roger that Lieutenant. Sir, if you could proceed to insert the captain's key to permit launch."

"Roger that." He inserted the key and turned it in the lock. A switch arose out of the console beside the key. The captain pressed it down, the launch of nuclear missiles was now permitted.

"Lieutenant, nuclear launch is now permitted. Proceed at your discression."

"Roger that sir, firing now." He flicked the three switches for the torpedos tubes and the cruise missiles were ejected in their protective cover. They would rise to the surface and ignite once out of the water. They would reach their targets in just over an hour and then explode with airbursts over the fleet.

The B-9 squadrons would keep their radar systems powered down during their movements over Maine, using the terrain and link up with satellite based SAR and GPS to provide guidance towards their targets. This minimized their chance of detection, while their sophisticated skins would detect enemy radar energy while either absorbing it or deflecting it away to prevent radar detection. This allowed the B-9s to locate the positions of enemy radar which had survived in the area, which would be transmitted to satellites in orbit. SATCOM would then direct recon of these areas to locate the dishes while the B-9s continued undetected to their targets. As soon as they dropped their ordinance over the targets doing in more of Maine's underground sites they activated their radar systems with low probability of intercept and flew off over the Atlantic for refueling in Iceland. SAMs without a lock and at low altitude which the B-9 was designed to penetrate at were a terrible ineffective weapon, much like trying to hit a flying pidgeon with a ping pong ball.

The firing of the submarine missiles would be rapidly detected by the picket force of AWAC UAVs forward position, and relayed to an EF-50 squadron in the area which would engage the near surface attack sub with anti-ship missiles . With the revelation of a seperate sub force out to shore, and confirmation of kills by the Monaco Strategic Forces, UFE ships were ordered outwards towards the Atlantic. Battlefield management UAVs were deployed to use their synthetic aperture radars whereas heavy lift helicopters with greater range, Naval UAVs, and P-8s were dispatched with sonar buoys, electronic IR thermoscopes, and magnetic anomaly detectors.

The carrier group upon this revelation was ordered to hold back in its position, previous assumptions were that the submarines would be guarded by most of the attack submarines to maximize their survivability. This was now called into question. The Littoral Combat Ships and attack submarines advanced, still several hundred kilometers out from the nearest attack sub. However, the littoral combat ships were now in range of dispatching more drones for search and destroy and sonar buoys. A read of one of the forward deployed submarines began to come into image from a UAV. A P-8 launched two air launched anti submarine depth charges to destroy it.

In addition to these assets. Four Pelican ULTRA Ground Effect Vehicles were launched from Jamaica and the UFE Mobile Offshore Base to, each of this vessels was equipped with large amounts of Sonar buoys that could be deployed in lines across the Atlantic to widen the grid of detection even further.

S-500s now also locked onto Maine's Satellite grid and fired off ASMs to knock out the ability to track UFE logistical operations in the Caribbean Sea and Middle Atlantic.

The command building built to withstand a 50 megaton blast would find itself stressed to the limit. SAT INT now confirmed its location reviewing excavation records and forwarded it to the other TSI members for finishing. 3 19 megaton nuclear warhead would be ground bursted over it to utterly destroy it. While another 19 megaton nuclear weapon would be ground bursted along the Maine Atlantic Wall to further do it in. What now appeared to be a perimeter wide dug in position around Maine was quickly hit by a follow up of 50 Cerberus conventional thermobaric warheads delivered via ICBM, with the coast and positions on the Bostonian flanks being the primary concentration.

Following the confirmation of two submarines sinking due to the nuking of the Maine coastline, the Prince authorized another four nukes to be launched at the coast of Maine. The idea was to make destroy any possible coastal defenses left after the original five nukes. Each 19 Megaton nuclear weapon was launched successfully towards the coastline of Maine. Further more the possibility of two further nuclear weapons were available to be deployed within the next two weeks to further obliterate any surviving enemy defense systems.

Upon receiving the location of the command center Genesis would move to its strike programming again, at this point nuclear release had been pre-approved by the command structure so only the commander of Genesis was required to issue the orders. 3 ICBMs would launch from silos in the Athenian Federation, each equipped with a 19 megaton nuclear warhead, the weapons would groundburst over the command center.

By chance, the submarine that fired the three missiles which at firing depth was shallow enough to receive the message Colonel Stark had sent out. Their fate was already set by the UFE ASW attack. They sent out a general order to all the other submarines in the fleet on an open and unclassified channel informing them of the surrender which had occurred and that any crew which wished to survive should do the same.

Across the Atlantic submarines received signals indicating there was a message being transmitted although they would have to go closer to the surface to receive it.

They all did, remaining at a depth where the would remain hidden firing off the radio buoy to a point nearer the surface. It was the order they had been hoping for. SSN Binary began transmitting a general surrender of the People's Republic Navy. They also began forwarding the message received from Colonel Stark informing people the remaining ground forces of Maine had surrendered as well. However the UFE's ASW hit SSN Binary directly on the missile storage bay, causing the detonation of most conventional weaponry ripping the boat to shreds.

Hopefully the other submarines fate would not be the same.

Over Montreal the thermonuclear MIRV descended crashing into the street. Fortunately the warheads second and third stages failed to detonate but a 30 kiloton ground burst atomic explosion occurred right next to Global Research.

The Free Association condemns the UFE's detonation of a nuclear warhead outside of the current theater of conflict. This gruesome mistake once again demonstrates the horrific damage and death these weapons are capable of.

We ask the United Federation of the East to learn to properly maintain and use their warheads. If you are unable to do so the Free Association is willing to send nuclear technicians to train your personnel on the correct handling and maintenance of such weapons.

In addition, the Free Association expects the UFE to help with S&R and relief operations on the afflicted areas as well as provide compensation for the lost lives, injured, and damaged infrastructure sustained by the Canadian people.

OOC: I dunno how you got excavation records but whatever.

Mount Katahdin was now Crater Katahdin. The entire mount had been entirely destroyed by the blasts. However, the lowest layer of the base inside remained intact against all the odds. John Snow and his Generals made their way to the tram that would take them to the emergency exit. Due to the vast amount of attacks above however the tram was inoperable, they would have to walk miles to the exit and hope it would open when they arrived.

They had Simon Pegg with them. They began to walk along the what seemed to be an endless tunnel.

Meanwhile, the Naval vesels which remained began transmitting any data they could about Mount Katahdin. The people who recieved it, hopefully those from Boston, would know of the secret exit from Mount Katahdin and be able to have assets ready to capture anyone leaving from it preferably alive.

Classified

"Sir, we're receiving a series of transmissions from the Maine navy."
"And?"
"It appears... sir, we've got to go to Mount Katahdin."

==========

With the cooperation of the Maine armed forces, a large amount of the soldiers of the Boston First Army were headed back into the homeland. The armour, meanwhile, continued to blitz forward, their occupants protected from most of the radiation. Several hundred tanks and other pieces of armour rolled around to Mount Katahdin and the most heavily-supplied and protected infantry units were immediately dispatched to the secret exit. Thanks to the still-intact roads outside of major population centres, they could speed through the entirety of Maine in just a few hours. Aircraft and helicopters waited until after the last round of nuclear weapons usage to fly in as close as possible to drop off units as well.

Whatever was going on, Boston would be there to face it.

The UFE electronic warfare aircraft would intercept the signals send from the remaining Maine submarines. Rapidly the signals would be traced back to the Maine Submarines, whose locations would be transmitted to UFE combat air assets. Rapidly UFE Tu-160, EF-50, P-8, and F/A-47 assets would be used to defeat the surviving submarines with anti-submarine missiles.

Meanwhile a UFE Tu-160 would fly over the crater of Mount Katahdin and drop a final 19 megaton bomb to wipe the remaining trace of the crater out.
