Maelstrom Vortex Posted July 14, 2009 Report Share Posted July 14, 2009 (edited) A new strain of Malaria spreading by bird, swine, human, and mosquito vectors has been named the "Multi Vector Immune System Abrogating Hyper Aggressive Malaria" strain. Or.. as the CDC in Dragonisia jokinly calls it "M.V. IS. A. HAM." after their beloved chairman. The new strain, though named with humor, is not very funny. It has so far proven to have approximately a 95% lethality rate and has spread to over 1000 people in less than 24 hours in the identified town. It has also proven to have a 95% effective infection/exposure ratio.. meaning that it must be spreading by air, contact, and bodily fluids. A state of emergency has been declared and the CDC is doing its best to contain the outbreak. However, several flocks of birds have been in and out of the area. Given a culturing time of 3 days before symptoms display.. it is expected that the region is in GREAT danger. ooc: Preparing for the era of no-saved stats.. time for the long ride down. Anyone found trying to enter Marscurian Pakistan from the Dragon Empire will be immediately quarantined, and will be shot if they try to resist. All people living within 20 miles of the border have been evacuated further towards the center of the country. Teams have begun dispensing pesticides in lakes and other bodies of water that may serve as a breeding ground for the mosquitoes. Royal Cochin Naval Base Ratnagiri is under full lock down and full NBC Protection is enabled. The Trans Himalayan Railway shall continue to be in operation, however at its Cochin end the train shall have to pass through an ad hoc sterilisation yard where it shall be sprayed with chemicals. If my nation heard it: IC: The Nation of Selenarctos will be rerouting planes and boats form Dragonisia, and all visiting Dragon Empire citizens must report into one of The Nation's hospitals for a mandatory health inspection. We offer our best pharmaceutical companies to assist in the mass production of a cure once it is found, however we are unable to provide distribution assistance. Viniland has developed various vaccines against conventional ones, but none of them had very high success rates (OOC: Since IRL, current vaccines are very inefficient and all). However, the development of a new strain greatly concerns us as current vaccines may not work, and thus we must severely restrict the movement of people coming from the Dragon Empire, in the sense that all D.E. citizens must go through screening tests for Malaria, and be quarantined if they are found to have the disease. We will also encourage our own pharmaceutical industry to research a potential cure for the new strain and invite any other interested party to partake in the project." Already, volunteer border patrols have been set up to hunt these birds down and dispose of them before they reach the general population. The Palintinian Border Patrol (what's left of them anyway) has been ordered to step up patrols; however, the executive branch is doubtful the small numbers will be able to seal the entire border. Those already in Dragonisia are not permitted to rewturn, and those returning/originating from Dragonisia are told to turn back and wait for this to be dealt with. Does the local CDC have HAZMAT suits, or shall we provide them? Additionally, we wish to rent construction equipment to stop, divert, & clean water sources, such as a creek or river. Our Labortory of Human Research shall switch directives to the MVISAHAM virus once we get ahold of a sample. Additionally, we suggest taking HAZMAT-equiped personel with tranquilizer darts/weapons to catch possibly affected animals for stopping the spread and researching further into the virus and its effects. The population of Jaipur is being devastated with an infection rate for the total city now at 50% and rising. The Dragonisian Military has been sent into the zone along with the Dragon Salvation Army under extremely high biological alert levels. Full dual layer bio seal suits are being used in the zone. Right now emphasis is on symptom relief and mercy care as right now there is no known cure and most treatments for traditional malaria have not been successful. Samples are being distributed to national labs in an emergency press to attempt to isolate a vaccine. Additionally, a modified GAD-777 (Boeing 777) was sent in; it was virtually a mobile, high quality mini-research lab for in the field research. A small, 10 patient hospital was recently added on for this misison; moslty for the purpose of research of the virus. The doctors onboard did have access to HAZMAT suits, but the airplane had a specially made closed-environment box medical room located inside; the doctors thus didn't need the blocky suits to work on a patient. "Nanosolar is sending in groups of doctors to assist in this matter, as well as on-site research into finding a cure to the virus. He had just passed the petition to buy garbage cleaning trucks and upgrade the full cleaning system in Tamil Nadu when he read about this break out. He immediately called the health minister and hoped that he could possibly stop this disease from entering Tamil Nadu. First he made sure the scanners were working to check for Malaria symptoms at the Domestic Terminal of Kamraj Domestic Terminal. He had to make sure that this would not break out in Tamil Nadu. *5 days later* Kumar couldn't believe what he was reading. The district of Nagapattinam has 5 cases of this Malaria and 3 have died because of it. He thought the Health Minister was doing his job, he wasn't. The minister being lazy hadn't taken appropriate measures on making sure this break out wouldn't happen and it has. He was sacked immediately by Kumar and declared a state of Emergency and made a call to Dragonisia's central government.
