Oh, and a couple population modifiers I don't have (as Pooks pointed out). While I went in to this thinking land was not that useful I am seeing how it can be. In order to be successful using the war system, it also takes knowledge and skill, especially when it comes to ground attacks. JBone entered this duel with a significant Infra and Tech advantage on me (well over 1K in each department) as well as having the AADN and FSS wonder which gives him a huge benefit. If you look at the damage totals on the first page you will realized he has the edge in Infra damage, while tech is virtually even and I have an edge in land damage. His has done more infra damage is because of his tech bonus when it comes to Nukes and CMs, and his aircraft bonus with the AADN and FSS. But I have been able to hold even in tech damage and do more land damage because of my success on the ground with stealing and looting land and tech. On paper, there is no reason for this to happen, but because the war system actually takes into account a persons knowledge and expertise on what the best strategies are I am able to be competitive in this duel. Vol Navy Posted April 15, 2009 Report Share Posted April 15, 2009 (edited) Twisted has a good nation set up for beating nations who have close to equal numbers in the infra and tech department because his land gives him extra citizens, thus a bigger army, he has the most effective ADP in the game. Land also gives you some bonuses in defending and anti-spy operations, which makes it tougher to get great ground odds on him. In a war against a nation with a big infra advantage it would be much tougher sledding especially over the long haul as Twisted's army would shrink much more rapidly than say, a nation with 13000-14000 infra, which is closer to the typical infra level for a nation with the NS of Twisted. " does not read as a complaint and should not be presented as one by you. <more words> While it might not be a complaint, those words were used as an attempt at a counterargument, or excuse, for but I know I have succeeded in making your military look foolish. You claim is that twisted is not making your military look foolish (hence trying to excuse yourself from this accusation, despite the numbers given by twisted) because of three reasons. 1) AADN. 2) Land. 3) population modifiers. Numbers 1 and 3 are not very good counterarguments to Twisted's claim that "he is making your military look foolish", because these are things that you could have changed at any point at time and are not especially influenced by factors outside your judgment as a nation ruler. The fact that you don't have an AADN and that you don't have as good population modifiers as Twisted has to do with how you handle your wonder purchasing and trades. The fact that you don't have an AADN and do not have optimal trades (in terms of population mods) are not reasons why your military does NOT look foolish. Rather, they are quite the opposite: they are reasons as to why your military DOES look foolish. As for land... Well, there are many factors that influence the acquisition of land, including luck in raiding, persistence in raiding, alliance rules, CN activity, etc. that I will not hold against you. Perhaps his huge amount of land might tip the balance in his favor. But, as you said, you accepted the duel assuming land didn't do much, so that shouldn't really be used as a counterargument in itself, as you actually knew that he HAD 27k land. I think the whole "oh, that's how CMs work" comment did more than any of the stats in this thread to do that Also - CMs do the full damage almost always unless you are near ZI. Mogar Posted April 16, 2009 Report Share Posted April 16, 2009 I think the whole "oh, that's how CMs work" comment did more than any of the stats in this thread to do that Also - CMs do the full damage almost always unless you are near ZI. Much damage has been done on both fronts, entire cities have been laid to waste, looting and pillaging continue as we speak. I expected nothing less, as pooksland was born of TF! and suckled at the teat of TPF for so long. He is a warrior, indeed. With that being said, I come here this evening to offer pooksland of pooksland terms for his surrender. Being a gracious and benevolent ruler, I thought this only fair. Before I begin, let me make this abundantly clear, this is a one time offer, no second chances. Terms: 1. Pooksland of pooksland will immediately enter peace mode, for a period of no less than 12 days. 2. Pooksland of pooksland will change his AA to "JBone POW" for a period of no less than 12 days. 3. Pooksland of pooksland will, as soon as mechanics will allow, begin sending the nation of Boneslovia 250 tech units as agreed to in the OP and continue to send until completion. 4. Pooksland of pooksland will also send the nation of Boneslovia, $3,000,000.00 with each instalment of tech. 5. Pooksland of pooksland will publicly state, in this thread that he has indeed been schooled by an old fart. 6. Term 4 shall be waived if, and only if, pooksland of pooksland presents for all the world to see....an acceptable haiku, composed by the Venerable Oriental himself, posted in this thread, praising The Phoenix Federation.
