"The Beer, the Bourbon and the Parties"

Exactly seven hundred and thirty one days ago (blasted leap years), a great alliance was founded by Micro Miner and Bush_84, and from the very beginning it was different. Rather than choose a typical acronym-based name, they chose a unique name full of colourful history and later wonderful memes (although there are still rumors that Sparta is actually S.P.A.R.T.A.: Silent Protectors Armed and Ready To Attack). Despite popular belief, Sparta was founded before the movie came out. It began with a very active government and core membership that included some rather sizable nations for the era the alliance was founded. Most of all, there was also a strong conviction within the alliance that we were going to grow quite quickly and turn into something special, kind of like a sudden erection. As CN history shows, we most certainly did during our first year. Sparta saw growth that was simply unheard of by any other alliance at the time. We had risen all the way to be the #7 sanctioned alliance and had a score of 6 million nation strength; very lofty numbers for an alliance that was just cutting its name into the grand scheme of things. We moved colors not just once, but twice, yet not thrice, with the second move being announced on our 1st birthday. We created brand new forums that were, and still are, a great joy to many Spartans and friends. But most importantly, we had, and still have, lots of fun. Our community is what has truly made being a Spartan something special.

Over this last year, Sparta has made even further leaps and bounds, as evidenced by both the sanction race and the detailed statistics screen. Now firmly entrenched in the number 3 spot, we plan to keep it up for the next year and beyond.

Our departments have had major success in the past year. The Economy Department has brought our alliance to new heights, with innovative and widespread programs, benefiting both the individual and the whole. The refinement of our defense structure has gotten us to our most active and ready status ever, and our arsenal of weaponry and experience continues to grow. We are now proud of the fact that we can successfully launch a 13.5 nation update blitz, a vast improvement over our 12 man tactic. Our Academy runs as smoothly as ever, constantly monitoring dozens of new applicants. Moreover, our recruiters manage to bring in over 100 new applicants the past week, though many were found undesirable and cast off the side of Mount Taygetus. Last but not least, our Foreign Affairs department continues its groundbreaking research into the positive effects of alcohol on diplomacy.

We want to take this moment of celebration to both remember where we came from and to also thank all of the people that helped us get here. It’s not enough to have one of the best communities in all of Digiterra, we couldn’t have gotten anywhere these last two years without the blessings and support of all of our allies. I’m not going to list all of you because I don’t want to risk forgetting somebody, but Sparta truly thanks you from the bottom of its heart for all of your support, and we want to welcome all of you to #cnsparta and our forums http://www.cnsparta.com for a massive celebration. We have 300 kegs at the ready to face the hordes of party-goers that will besiege our public channel.

Finally, we look forward to our 3rd year, with new hopes and new goals. We will continue to grow larger and stronger, maybe even faster, and we will strive to constantly make the sanction race as interesting as possible.

Sparta, it's your birthday, get drunk and make a whole bunch of mistakes that you'll regret in the morning. You already have DL, Tulak, and me running the show, you can't screw up much worse than that!

o/ Sparta's best 2 years so far!
