Lynneth
OOC: o/ ColumbusIC: The Western Republic has issued a national day of mourning - construction will be halted for one day, all workplaces will shut and all schools halted for 24 hours. Similarly, tomorrow will be a national day of mourning in Saboria, with a symbolical funeral for these great people. Byzantium -- ignoring its anti-Communist bias for the moment -- sends its condolences to the families and friends of the victims, and Saboria as a whole. Our deepest thanks to Byzantium, in the name of the families of the deceased astronauts and for overcoming the bias, if only for a brief moment. OOC: Edit: Also, the orginal name of the shuttle was Columbia. But I wanted to keep this post at least partially fictional, thus the namechange. Lynneth
OOC: Holy..! I just noticed that I posted the spaceshuttle post exactly 6 years after the shuttle actually was destroyed, only 5 hours late or so. Dayum, that's a gigantic coincidence, gentlemen. IC: SSA Space Shuttle Program Manager Mr. Mittedore reported that "We have by now fully investigated the cause of this terrible disaster. Approximately 82 seconds after launch, a suitcase-size piece of thermal insulation foam broke off the External Tank, striking Columbus' left wing Reinforced Carbon-Carbon panels. As demonstrated by ground experiments conducted by the Columbus Accident Investigation Board, this likely created a 15 to 25 cm diameter hole, allowing hot gases to enter the wing when Columbus later reentered the atmosphere. At the time of the foam strike, the orbiter was at an altitude of about 20 km, traveling at Mach 2.46. The foam fragment was about 0.54 kg in mass and impacted the wing at roughly 240 m/s. The following months, we will try to redesign these parts of the shuttles in order to minimise the possibility of such an accident happening again. However, the missions to the Space Station will not be suspended - We'll finish that damned station on time, and I'm sure the crew of the Columbus would want us to do that. To finish what we've started." In related news, the station is at 60% completion.

Subtleknifewielder
Obviously, we will have to discontinue our food shipments for a little while. Once we are back on our feet, we will continue to support this project. Otherwise, the tragic loss of those brave souls will have been for nothing. OOC: That is a nice tribute there, Lynneth. Lynneth
Rebel Virginia can supply quite a bit of coal to this project, but it will cost you. As long as it doesn't cost roughly 10% more than the average we currently are paying, we'd gladly buy your coal.

USNA
By special request of the government several mining companies have expanded operations and will be producing 150% times the normal coal production with little to no effect on the environment. This has lead to an increase in the manufacturing of Carbon Nanotube Cables for the project. In addition an additional $20,000,000,000 has been appropriated for the project to be used other work expenses.
