  1. I am trying very hard to remain respectful but this was just too good not to share If you think of Non Grata as an opaque object, let's say a container, the contents of which can only be seen if one looks inside, it certainly presents an intellectual conundrum. Maybe Schrodinger is government but maybe he isn't. The only way to know is to visit NG's forums and open the container. There, I feel better now. While I'm at it As the prophet Jaeger once said, we can't always get what we want. And about the thread as a whole: I believe "You can't quit, you're fired!" applies. Just a few more details to iron out.
  2. I'd rather try to blow each other up for a week and see what happens. As I said on my alliance's board, "I haven't been nuked this week, I'll jump him."
  3. The finale of Misfits was great. I loled at Seven when Finn was almost dumped under the overpass and Greg the probation worker hooked up with the closeted probation worker. Totally called it. It was cool to see them all become relatively decent human beings. Fringe was great, I haven't seen the other ones but I've heard of them. Once Upon a Time is girl sci-fi but it's also very well done.
  4. Oh hey, another nation in my range! Also, looks like you have to go back to The Future government as this little rogue action wasn't sanctioned by that AA.
  5. And updated with new opponents.
  6. Oh my, did two people disagree on an opinion poll? It's almost like we were supposed to say what we thought. I ranked the alliances that I felt had a good impact in the 1-3s and the alliances that I felt had a bad impact in the 8-10s. The ones that weren't good or bad, I ranked in the middle.
  7. 1. LUE 2. \m/ 3. NAAC 4. FOK 5. PC 6. Athens 7. Rok 8. Norden Verein 9. MK 10. GOONS LUE and NAAC shaped the game for the League and \m/ and GOONs did it for the Initiative. \m/ and PC were loudmouth jerks but were nice about it, GOONS and MK were thugs who thought it was appropriate to follow people to other realms as well. Fok brought us friends from a whole other country. Rok and Athens were both kind of meh, and Norden Verein was creepy.
  8. Do what I did and ghost, attack as many attacking nations as possible, ask nicely, and maybe they'll let you in.
  9. Hey, if someone did this, they might give purpose to the NSA employees that did this: NSA Monitoring World of Warcraft
  10. In terms of the Mercy Board, I'm going to have to say that that particular board is extremely detrimental to the losing nation or alliance. Not only are they extremely cruel there, but going to offsites makes it possible to harvest IPs. That said, I'm torn on things like beer reviews, poetry, changing one's flag, and things like that. They're ritual shaming that can feel more harmful than some of the other options. However, they don't physically hurt anyone. As long as the losers are allowed to be in on the joke, it's not that hard. I remember one alliance's leader didn't drink so he was allowed to do a milk review instead of a beer review.
  11. Anyone that puts his cats in his sig is the bomb.

  12. You must have read it backwards because that's not at all what it says. Plan B is basically a super MDoAP. This is the announcement. It's actually remarkably similar to The Continuum Treaty. Article I states that the treaty should be prioritized above all others: Article IV deals with war and covers mutual defense and declarations of war. It's publicized as an MADP but I believe it's actually an MDoAP because it requires it's members to authorize the DoW. But that's not really why we're here. The first clause of Article IV is a pretty strong mutual defense clause and that coupled with Article I makes it almost certain that if any of the other member alliances are attacked, the other alliances are going in. That said, TIO was attacked by NpO on December 2, so R&R and NATO had an active defensive obligation at that time. NATO was arguably otherwise engaged but R&R's absence was a bit more suspect. None of this really matters now because NATO and TIO just got jumped so any mutual defense war that may not have been active before is really activated now. The bottom line, it's a defensive war of an ally, stop whining. R&R had the option to go in offensively two months ago but chose not to.
  13. I don't particularly care for the new species of human in hidng type show. I like people who use their abilities to help others. I'm more of a weirdo but yeah, everyone here is at least a gamer.
  14. I'm not quite up on the lingo but I believe that "What is this I don't even?" applies. What happens if Rota buys Rota?
  15. Two words: Juliet's amnesia. That whole "He still loves her but she doesn't remember him," thing really got old in 2. But everyone's been on the same page since the last 3 episodes of season 2 and it's been fun having Nick, Hank, Rosalee, Juliet, and Monroe work together to solve stuff. I have the last two Misfits on my Hulu queue. What season do you recommend I start with for Dr. Who? My brother loves it but I don't have time to catch up on +4 seasons.
  16. I just want to say that your webs look awesome and almost look like pieces of art. Great work!
  17. I might have to check out Tomorrow People. I really like Greg Berlanti's other work (Everwood and Green Lantern). Arrow's one that's been on my maybe list to check out. Hulu keeps recommending it. I mainly don't watch it because the network it's on is such a train wreck that everything I've ever liked on it gets canceled so I don't want to get invested.
  18. That had occurred to me as well. I suspect he's bulletproof and hasn't noticed. In the episode with the blackhole in the basement, he fired at the same time as a guard and only one of them went down. Incidentally, Clark Gregg is pretty active on Facebook and Twitter and is quite amusing.
  19. So I'm noticing more than a few people with names or avatars with themes that are from movies or TV shows or comics that can be described as well nerdy. You have Centurius as Rumple from "Once Upon a Time", Loki Laufeyson from Marvel, and me from "Grimm" not to mention numerous mods and other players with names, avys, and sigs from sci-fi and fantasy. No one else in my personal life is as big of a nerd as I am so I figure I'll get my nerdgasms out of my system here. Agents of Shield: I can't believe Loki hasn't watched this show. It's awesome. I really liked Phil Coulson since the first Iron Man movie so I'm thrilled he's on my TV every week. As an office drone who is also often the most highly educated but lowest paid person in the room, it's nice to see someone in a similar situation kick ass. It's sort of like why I enjoyed the show "Chuck." It's also nice to see a nice guy finish first. I have to admit it's extremely tempting to donate to change my name to "Phil Coulson" because I like the character and also because it'd be fun to annoy Loki. Grimm: Before "Agents of Shield" started, this was my favorite show and now it's a solid #2. I really like urban fantasy so the whole magical animal spirits living in certain people really appeals to me. The show reminds me of "The Dresden Files" crossed with "The X Files" and I like how it blends fantasy with reality. My favorite character is obviously Monroe. Monroe is a Blutbad which is basically a werewolf crossed with a vampire who keeps his bad impulses in check by avoiding all meat products and doing pilates. He's done some bad things in the past (most likely killed someone) that he's not proud of that he's trying to atone for now. He is also extremely eccentric and gets the best lines. Once Upon a Time: Centurius is a big fan of this one. I almost lost faith last year when they offed August Booth because he was a great character but the bit in Neverland was quite cool. However, considering we're in the third season, I kind of think the time for flashbacks is over. I would like to see how Henry went from the delivery room on Arizona to Storybrooke though... So on to the discussion: What do you all think is going on with Agent Coulson? I've heard clone, life model decoy, android, (set to become Vision), revived using necromancy, and cyborg. Considering he just got kidnapped by Centipede, we'll soon find out. Apparently his vitals tested fine but his iron was high. Also, I feel totally stupid, I just rewatched Iron Man 3 last night and finally realized that the crap they were taking in the movie was the same stuff that was being dispensed using the Centipede device. Any guess as to who the clairvoyant and the leak are on "SHIELD"? I think the clairvoyant might be the guy that got busted out of jail at the beginning of the last episode because he got that look TV people get when they're seeing visions when the woman in the flower dress held his hand. The leak would have to be relatively high in SHIELD or perhaps they hacked it and don't have an actual person at all. The agent in the preview for the January episode who is saying that no one agent is that important is my pick for the leak. What do you all think is going to happen with Renard and the royals and Renard and Adiland on "Grimm"? They repeatedly tried to kill him and he arranged the assassination of his brother so they can never be BFFs but his family don't seem too upset at Eric's death either. Renard and Adiland don't see eye to eye but the child is either his child or niece or nephew and I don't think he wants to leave it to a life with the royals. I also think he had serious issues with how the Resistance executed their spy. He seemed to have a "I cut ties with my family to avoid this kind of BS and you're no better!" kind of look to him. What's going on with Nick on "Grimm"? He seems to be half zombie which can't be healthy. He's also a murder suspect, which for some reason doesn't seem to be on anyone's minds at the moment. I don't know why he hasn't told Rosalee what's going on. I wonder if it has something to do with the herbs being used to make the cure being old. What do you all think of the last episode of Once Upon a Time? It was nice to see Emma and Henry happy together and it's awesome they sent Hook but I hate it when shows do arbitrary passages of time like "One year later." Are there any shows I should be watching? You all should be watching the shows above as well as "Almost Human," "Sleepy Hollow," both the US and UK versions of "Being Human" and "Misfits."
  20. If they act like it is and participate in joint military exercises, I think that makes it real. Next time, do it like this
  21. You're the one that implied that NATO had somehow changed, I was merely responding that it takes two people to break a relationship. I have a feeling that if you asked them, NATO would say that Aqua, including Fark and MHA, left them. To address the initial point, Fark are one of the most independent and straight shooting alliances out there. They are extremely careful of the treaties that they sign and I don't believe that they would wantonly violate them. Most likely, this a paperwork error.
  22. The fact that you would even post this shows why you deserve to be nominated.
  23. I'm sure if you asked NATO, they'd say that Aqua changed and they didn't feel comfortable there anymore, so they moved to Blue where they felt they'd be more welcome. Also, MHA was in Continuum too and was treatied to NPO for a very long time.
  24. Many of the Continuum Era and before wars had terms requiring the cancellation of all treaties and the decommissioning of all nukes. Some even required deleting military wonders. This would make it extremely difficult for the losing alliance to get ready militarily for the next war. Likewise, if they were caught plotting, they were liable to be attacked and subjected to an even longer war, this time with an even less prepared military. I've only ever been in smaller less organized alliances (under 50 members) where the same people did it all and boy was it dull.
  25. Here's my problem with peace terms other than cessation of hostilities: they're boring. Peace terms bind not only the alliance that is subject to them (henceforth known as the "loser") but the alliance that is holding them subject to them as well (the "winner"). The loser has to do all kinds of not so fun things like cancel treaties, decommission nukes, keep military at near nonexistent levels, send obscene levels of money and tech, and - in the bad old days - accept a viceroy. The winner doesn't have to do that stuff but, here's the part that always gets to me, they have to make sure that the loser does that stuff. They have to monitor troop levels, aid slots, and nuke counts which can take a long time to do. Plus, while they're dealing with the peace terms, neither the loser or the winner has time to do what really keeps this world turning: rebuild their nations, build new relationships, and lay the groundwork for the next war. This results in stasis not only in the political environment of this planet but also within the individual losing alliances themselves as some members decide to call it quits and leave the planet entirely because they didn't come here to send money to people who hate them. The winning alliances experience as similar stasis as those who aren't into nation building may wonder why they're building nations they don't ever use. They may also lose members who resign because they don't understand why their alliance is enforcing peace terms that last longer than the war. In general, I tend to think that anything that gets people back out onto the field again quicker is good and anything that ties them up longer is bad. Everyone wants their pound of flesh but it's much more fun to extract it at war than through peace terms.
