1. It's because the physics of Planet Bob are static (OOC: The game's current state doesn't encourage friction, and friction = politics. admin needs to change this, though since it's been so long, it's doubtful). Back in the day, people didn't know the ins and out of our physical world, and when we did, our Lord and Savior admin changed things on a fairly regular basis. He hasn't in so long, and that is why we are in our current plight.
2.
What *has* changed is the *respect* factor. Back in the day, respect was always given, even to your enemy. Those who didn't give respect were quickly thrown out of power, or at the very least, scorned on the OWF. Despite your feelings or actions towards an alliance in game, you always treated them well out of game. None of this crying and whining and PR stunts. We played for fun, not to destroy. We played to create, not to plunder.
Um, were you around during 2006-2007? Things were much more vicious back then, and OWF trolling was much more rampant. I agree that the game needs to be updated, though. And not more useless Wonder additions.
3. Decided to be a trooper, so I messaged all the Team Senators to send out a Team Message linking to the two sites.
4. If simple changes were made to make in-game politics more interesting (such as making team colors, location of nations, etc actually relevant), that would spur more activity, without making the game more complicated.
5. Voted, and posted links for the IAA.
6. Late to the party, but better late than never. Hail the Order! Hail the League! Hail the Organization! Hail the Empire! Hail Synergy! o/
7.
I have selected the proper attire for the festivities. Marvel at how I mask my lack of content with verbosity.
I lol'd.
I, instead, vote to put on an old, pre-CN persona of mine.
Ha, I remember that. Is the mod still kicking? I haven't been on the site in ages.
8. I voted. And I'll post this on IAA's forum too.
9.
The only effect that raising the aid cap would have on reparations would be to make them much, much larger. The idea that appears to be prevalent (to the determent of the game) is that reparations are to cripple an alliance so that they will never be a threat ever again. And this has resulted in all the alliances that might of been a source of the interesting politics that make the game environment dynamic and interesting either disbanding or being relegated to the political wilderness until some outside force removes the bloc that defeated them in the last war and the playing field is leveled again. In short, there is no interesting politics in CN any more because the alliances that were the source of it are now either vanquished or mere shadows of their former selves.
Reparations are only so large now because alliances that consist of tons of massive, nuke-capable nations are doing the fighting. Wars in the far past had relatively few large, nuke-capable nations involved. Thus, massive amounts of money need to be moved for present reparations, but due to the current limits, take months to complete.
10.
Far and away, it's due to the incredibly bad economic system. The economic system doesn't scale at all. this means that the largest nations get so big simply by living for a really long time. There's no skill involved, only perseverance. This has profound military effects: alliances are loathe to go to war where the damage incurred in a brief time takes years to rebuild. Thus, wars, when they come are much much larger and involve huge reparations, because that's the only way to keep an alliance down. Three years ago, an alliance could be utterly crushed and be rebuilt within a month because even the victors' nations were not much larger. There's no way to rebuild a large nation other than to hunker down for a year or two and not get crushed. Again, three years ago, the aid system was such that nations could be rebuilt to be equal to their victor-peers within a couple aid cycles.
This (in relating to why we now dread war). A long time ago, I remember these aid chains, where an aid package of $3 million or so was sent down a line of nations. Now, any aid less than $3 million per nation is considered absurd and a waste of an aid slot. If the aid cap was dramatically raised (if not entirely eliminated), large sums of money could flow freely, which would speed up the reparation process, which would decrease the time between wars. Win-win for everyone.
11. I wondered what happened to you when you vanished from the IAA. Good luck with that cursed thing known as "real life."
12.
I read many good ideas here but you people forgot to ask one thing: Is admin interested in make changes and add more things to the game? Is it profitable for him? And if the answer is no, is it possible for just us, the players, change the political aspect the game and it will be enough to bring new players to CN?
I don't think we players could collectively change the political aspect, as it would be too difficult to voluntarily enforce whatever was decided upon. What changes were you thinking of, though? If admin is no longer interested in the game (for whatever reason), he should pass the torch to someone else who would be. Otherwise, any changes we players would like to see will never happen. Sort of off topic, but has it ever been stated why custom flags can't be uploaded (or hosted on another website) for our nations?
13. There would need to be an in-game incentive for nations to pursue these options (such as two nations' overlapping borders leads to a happiness penalty). Otherwise, why would anyone go to war if it doesn't affect their nation at all?
14. o/ PPF May your swiftly crush your enemies with your overwhelming unpaid bills!
15. I was expecting some sort of closure to this blog posting.
16. This man wins the blog entry comments.
17.
I thought we were going to argue for a few more weeks before announcing this? o/ Sin Orgy.
Better than the BS Initiative. o/ LoSS o/ GATO o/ IAA o/ Synergy
18. The title of this topic is made of fail. Otherwise, yay us.
19. Maybe he moved away because he was afraid time was slowing down for him too?
20. Hail the Prism Protection Front! Hail Opethian, Lord of Sharks and Bill Lockiness! Onward to another four years! o/
21. Thoughts? I've been using it for a few months now. Here's the symbolism behind it (from "Flag of Werbistan" wiki page):
Grand Libery's [official name of the flag] colors, Blue and White, symbolize basic ideals that the nation cherishes: Resolve in Duty, Purity of Intention, and Aspirations for the Future. Blue also represents the nation team Werbistan has traditionally resided on. The division of the flag into three equal vertical bars stands for the national motto, Acta Non Verba. The five-pointed star represents the many people that have united under Werbistan's Liberty. The shield implies that to defend Werbistan, one must use Actions (AK-47) and Words (fountain pen); however, Actions ultimately count for more than Words. Thus, the AK-47 is placed in front of the fountain pen.
22. Don't listen to the haters UF. Your flag is great for all the wrong reasons.
