1. Hi. I want to give some foreign aid to someone. It used to be that there was a $3 million max limit for such gifts, but when I go to input a number the system will let me put whatever I want - even up to several hundred million, and when I click "confirm" it will tell me all is OK. I checked the update log but didn't see anything about removing the limit. Perhaps I didn't check back far enough. Has the $3m limit on aid per transaction gone away?

Why Tech Raiding Is a Good Thing

Haven't read any of the comments, so apologies if I'm repeating what's already been said, but...
In such a context, going after alliances we've never heard of, regardless of size, can be justifiable, if only to get them into the game the rest of us are playing.
Those folks are playing a different game than you. You have no more moral authority to force them into your version of it than they have to force you to sit in peace mode collecting pixels. Some people just want to see where the nation-building aspects of the game take them. They want to play SimCity, not Civilization. And that's OK. There isn't anything wrong with that. Those people should be allowed to play that game if that's why they're here. The whole point of the neutrality movement was to make it possible for those people to have a place to play their version of the game without being harassed by people interested in a different kind of game. Just pretend that those who play the game differently from you don't exist.

    CN World Map Version 2.0
The same thing will happen with this map. The hard figure of X NS = 1 territory is the flaw. Make it something like a percentage of the total territory instead
Personally, I think the diagram map I made in 2007 is the most accurate to have been created. I created circle "continents" for each color sphere and then divided each circle into wedge "countries" for each alliance. Circle size was based on the overall NS of the color sphere, and wedge size based on the percentage of the color sphere that each alliance contained. The main problem was that it didn't look much like a map - although this problem could have been solved with some creative artistic license. A secondary problem is that it assumes everyone in a given alliance is on their color, which is obviously not true.

    DiCE Flag Competiton

I'm not going to register on your forum just to post a flag, but here is a quick concept. CN needs moar checkerboard. Hi-res available, etc. It resizes well.

    Attack on WOLF by FOK?

Hi WOLF guys. You made two big mistakes here. In the hope that you will learn something from this drama, I will describe what you did wrong and what you should have done. 1) You made threats before talking. It's OK to defend your nation, but when you get attacked by someone in an alliance it is just common sense to go talk to that person's alliance before coming on the big boards and making silly threats. FOK could utterly destroy you if they wanted, so it is up to you to do the diplomatic legwork necessary to make sure you don't turn their whole alliance against you. It seems that once you did that diplomatic legwork, FOK gave up any claims to protecting the guy who attacked you and gave you full permission to have at him. It would have been easier and much less risky for you to have gotten that OK from FOK up front. 2) You threatened to ZI rather than simply retaliate with a single week-long round of triple-team counter attacks. ZI means taking someone down to zero infrastructure over the course of repeated wars, as opposed to beating the tar out someone for a week and then letting them go. ZI means you are not just responding[to an action defensively, but taking offensive initiative yourself. Not only is it generally regarded that ZI is a harsh penalty that should be saved for extreme cases, but by turning what was a defensive war for you into an ongoing offensive campaign, you compel the other alliance to consider whether they need to step in to defend their nation from unwarranted aggression. Ultimately it is up to you to determine what sort of response those who do you wrong should receive, but if you get a reputation for being overly harsh then it will not be too long before someone decides you're the one who is a bully that needs to be taught a lesson. Indeed, that is why NPO is currently on the losing end of a huge war. Next time, save the ZI threat until it is clear that a week of war won't be enough. In the end it appears that despite your mistakes you will survive this incident. Good for you. But you had better learn from your mistakes, because the cyberverse is a cruel place and if you continue to blunder your way through future incidents like you have this one, I guarantee you will not survive for long.

    Attack on WOLF by FOK?

This is a fair statement. If FOK goes to war with WOLF because WOLF are too dumb to talk things through first, then more power to FOK. That's totally fine, dandy and honorable. But on the other hand, if FOK has a general doctrine stating that other alliances are not permitted to protect their own nations from attack, which some of these statements seem to imply, then that is another story entirely. The whole point of alliances is to protect nations from attack. If FOK's standard here is that WOLF (or any alliance) doesn't have the right to launch alliance-sanctioned counter attacks against any nation that attacks that alliance's sovereignty, then FOK is in effect setting out a doctrine that alliance affiliation doesn't matter. I'm not sure the rest of the cyberverse should be OK with that.

Imperial Decree - New Polar Order

Out of curiosity, now that NpO and NPO are no longer joined at the hip and NpO has a somewhat different reputation, is NpO considering officially changing its name to Polaris to rid itself of the NPO connection once and for all? Not suggesting you all do that, just wondering if it's on the table.

    WOLF Warning

Your alliance is big enough to hold back most raids on its own nations, although I suspect you will have trouble extending your power abroad. That being said, I genuinely hope you do well in your efforts to combat raiding. Piracy is degenerate behavior that the civilized world would be better off without. I also hope you learn the basics of CN diplomacy. Rule #1: Know the position from which you negotiate. No offense, but your position is weak. You should not be delivering threats. If you become embroiled in any war against any organized alliance (let alone against the massive Karma coalition, which is far larger than the entire Red Sphere put together) you will be nothing but a tech farm for whoever it is you fight. You will be destroyed, and your opponents will be wealthier for your efforts. Let me say that one more time. The reason so many people find your threats funny is because anyone in Karma you go to war against could very well profit from fighting you.

Imperial Decree - New Polar Order

Forgive me for asking (and no, I haven't read 7 pages of the thread), but can someone clarify: Does Polaris now have any remaining treaties with NPO?

    You forced us to disband!!

The problem with \m/, and I say this with all due respect to the many good people who were part of it, was that it was essentially a bully alliance. Lots of people joined it precisely because it was big and bad and they could use it to raid the weak. That doesn't induce the kind of dedicated, loyal membership that surviving a prolonged occupation requires. A long war just isn't what many in \m/ signed up for.
