Scottish Ultimatum

Scotland will not tolerate the presence of a foreign, hostile nation such as Louisiana to establish a military encampment in the Iberian Peninsula. It is our responsibility as members of the Iberian Pact to ensure the protection, safety, and liberty of the Iberian people. The presence of Louisiana military forces is absolutely not tolerable.

North America has dictated that they do not want foreign presence within their continent, and thus we expect the same. Louisiana will immediately evict itself from our vicinity or face drastic consequences.

For the third time, Louisiana will deny the Kingdom of Scotland's request to remove ourselves from our own land, which we acquired legally from Spain. As Louisiana has already said, we do not take a America is for America only stance as some of our neighbors do. To hold Louisiana responsible for the actions of their neighbors is foolish at best. Louisiana's actions are not dictated by their neighbors in North America and as such, the actions of other North American neighbors are not a reflection of Louisianan foreign policy. The Kingdom of Scotland needs to learn not to meddle in the private affairs of Spain and Louisiana.

Until such a time as the Holy American Empire sees reason to do otherwise, we remain neutral in any conflict stemming from the occupation of Spanish soil. Furthermore should Louisiana attempt to take more land in Spain by force, through trade, or against the wishes of its' Scottish protectors, the Holy American Empire may find it prudent to do the same to Louisiana territory.

So you, the Iberians, are planning to invade Spain because they legally leased land to Louisiana to build a base? You are nothing more than warmongers who have nothing better to do than rattle their sabers. The UMS is not guilt-free from belligerence in the past, but to invade a non-hostile nation for trading land is absolutely ridiculous.

Scotland has no qualms with Spain and would prefer not to engage them if such a situation is avoidable. Our quarrel is with American colonizers, and only American colonizers.

We figured as much, but how are you going to get to that military installation without infringing on Spain's sovereignty?

It was a legitimate land trade. You do not control Iberia, and furthermore, if you are a Scottish nation, why must you run amok in Iberian affairs? Are you not doing the same as them?" commented Takeo.

"The disagreement here stems from the longstanding controversy surrounding North and South American hegemony and the willingness of European and Asian nations to accept the hegemony provided that Americans do not expand into other continents. Despite Louisiana having acquired its European holdings through a mutually agreed upon and mutually beneficial agreement with a sovereign European nation, it is being persecuted by European nations seeking to use this as a sort of protest against the American hegemony even though Louisiana does not subscribe to its neighbors' views on that issue.

If the brinkmanship displayed by both parties continues, an armed conflict seems inevitable. The atmosphere created by constant escalation of the disagreement is not conducive to peaceful diplomacy. For a peaceful atmosphere, the parties cannot continue issuing stubborn statements back-and-forth while (presumably) marshaling their military assets for a war. To avoid a pointless war, they must discuss matters rationally and achieve compromises.

Both parties are at fault for the escalation of the situation, but what this government finds most disturbing is that no voices of reason are rising through the aggressive posturing to question the long-term effects of resolving disagreements in this manner. Somebody has to take the first step towards a peaceful reoslution here. If the current course of events continues, a pointless, destructive, and fully preventable war will occur and the involved parties will have nobody to blame but themselves."

The Republic of Magadanskaya finds this decree to be both worrying and a cause for concern. This was a land transaction legal under current international accepted standards, however, the americans, with their rabid attempts at removing land held by foreign power of sizes even this big should hold themselves to the same standard.

"A new brand of Colonialism? Is it that time in Europe already? What I don't understand is why States spawned by one Nation or another keep being hellbent on ruling over peoples belong to other Nations unrelated to them. Why should an American rule over an Iberic, be it Spaniard or Portuguese? Why should it be considered legally to essentially sell people together with their land to a foreign nation unrelated to them? This is simply wrong on every level."

Due to the tensions in the continent, Germany raises its alertness level, although not to the maximum.

We support Louisiana on the matter. They have reached a legal agreement with a sovereign country and this should be respected. Labeling this "colonization" is pure propaganda, Louisiana did not forcibly taken the land nor are they attempting to subjugate the local population to their will. We have no qualms with Scotland however we urge them to reach a peaceful agreement instead of resorting to stubborn ultimatums and threats of invasion.

OOC: That's from the other thread just posting it here so my position is known. IC:

"We remind Scotland we have a MDoAP with Louisiana. If Scotland continues to act aggressively and infringe on Spain and Louisiana's sovereignty we will activate the Defense portion of our treaty and assist them. We would much prefer a peaceful solution and hope Scotland does not resort to an unwarranted invasion."

'This land is no longer ours, it is under Louisiana control and we have no say in what they do with it. Spain will not enter this unfolding war unless we are directly attacked. We urge Louisiana and Scotland to work this out diplomatically.'

Do not hold Louisiana responsible for the sins of Tahoe. They have never held an "America first" stance, and I doubt they ever will. This is warmongering at its finest.

Further, Louisiana's base is the exact same as the Federation's in Guam. It is not a colony, it is a military installation. To think otherwise is childish and foolish.

We ask that Scotland and Finland not bring war back to Europe. The Italian Federation will defend her friends in Louisiana if they are attacked.

**CLASSIFIED**

Italian Federation placed into DEFCON 3. All military reserves have been notified, all active duty leaves are hereby canceled. All forces in the Med are in high alert.

Is it me, or is it sad that Molakia is one of the voices of reason this time around? As much as we would like for America to be forcefully removed from Europa, recent events have made us less inclined to use force. We restate our offer to host talks. We also restate Molakia's doctrine of United Europa, that we may choose to defend Europe against outside invasion should we believe it needed.

-Vice Royal Katrina Zykova, Molakian Head of State

The Senate agrees with the Vice Royal, and gives her authority to take control of certain goverment functions until this crisis is solved.
