Religion thing for a friend (wrote in 15 min)

What is the origin of religion? Where do the different religious affiliations come from? Where are they going? Nobody knows the exact truth to any of these. But the idea of a certain human being along with its conscience can determine this. Every person in the entire world has some views on religion. Every single religion is interpreted different. Each individual of that religion can even interpret their own religion different than others of that same affiliation. Whether they know it or not ever person most likely knows enough about their religion to answer these three questions. The origin of religion is sense the time when man first started walking on this Earth. Nearly every single religion will agree will that statement. Nearly every religion will say their religion started when their savior, prophet, or founder first stepped foot on the earth or when that person hit a remarkable break through. Most religions will also say that in the future they will seek new convert and become the strongest and most dominant religion in the world. In reality though only a handful of religions are known amongst the majority of the world. This is astonishing considering there are over thousands of different religions in the world with some not even known considering that group of people is cut off from modern society. History shows that when different religions react together there tends to be some form of conflict. This conflict tends to be slaughter, war, and prejudice. This is why as many religions tend to hold central locations. These locations are areas that allow the religions to grow free of persecution due to the fact that everyone surrounding them is of that same affiliation. Soon though, the religion will need to expand its boundaries in order to seek more converts. This will inevitably cause more violence and destruction. The fight over religion is will continue forever. Everyone will be involved in some form of religious transgression in their life, whether they are Christian, Muslim, Voodoo, or even Atheist. Constantly humans think that they should become an atheist in order to escape the stress and tension. In reality though, atheist are becoming the most vulnerable. This is due to the fact that each religion is arguing to atheist about how they must believe in a God in order to live a perfect life and afterlife. When in reality they can live a good life even as an atheist. But what will they live for? If they have no hope for the future and what is to come then they have no purpose for life. They could just kill themselves and if they were a true atheist they should not care then. This is because if they are atheist then nothing would happen to them once they die. They also have no reason for living if they are an atheist. This is because life only brings stress, despair, and destruction. Anything they have or will do will end in tragedy. Their family and friends will all die and most would not even bother to bare the pain that can cause. So if they are positive that nothing will happen then why not just end their life and get it over with before they have to go through that? This is because most atheists are scared. Most know that they are wrong in what they are doing due to the fact that science and philosophy cannot prove most things. Science will never prove everything. Even the things that they have proven, some religion has most likely proven that wrong from factual evidence or from their beliefs. If atheist turn and give their life to God then they will find a true reason to live and will not be struck with grief as much when their loved ones leave this earth. For they know that they will see them again one day. When they day come they shall rejoice in the presence of the Lord, and shall give glory to his name and they will forever rest in peace.

You're assuming atheists don't have a reason to live because they do not profess faith in god?

that's one retarded argument.

"A True reason to live" a true reason?

true by whom?

you think only your way of life is true if you really want to get to people you should try sounding less condescending.

You're really bad at that whole E-Missionary crap.

btw i'm a religious person and i believe in god and i found this entire WoT to contain retarded arguments and nothing more.

It certainly does show that this was written in fifteen minutes. Might I suggest putting some thought into your work next time, instead of just pounding away senselessly at the keyboard?

As an atheist I find this rather comical and pretty much typical.

Per your argument, every christian should go ahead and kill themselves as their afterlife is supposed to be much better than their life here on Earth.

I'll be looking for your obituary.

If someone wants to die enough to kill themselves, I doubt their consciousness has evolved enough into a higher plan of consciousness, however you denying any force is responsible for creating the universe as we know it is pure ignorance and either not caring or having the capability to think about complex scenarios. If nobody can perceive reality in 4d, eventually somebody will be born who is able to due to every possibility being attempted until it happens. Since its well known by now that everyone and everything that makes the universe was part of the same entity or is a fragment of that entity, there is no reason to think just because the universe as we see it from our point of is expanding, that somehow we're not part of the same bigger entity, which if weren't that the laws of psychics for all of us remaining unchanged wouldn't make sense.

God is the Alpha and the Omega, beginning and the ends of everything, along with how things got that way. This is very constitant with the big bang theory and string theory, along with many other mathematical proofs that more and more complex existence and higher dimensions are just the result of continuety, which is reality wasn't always continuous, we wouldn't be where we are or exist.

Athiest might call the big bang, the big bang or GOD had anything to do with it, but most of the oldest relgions have the same belief in how the universe started, but chose to describe the creation of the universe as a scientific label to a singular point in time, then claiming to have a greater understanding than people who knew that from reading it explained that way in their religious text, since its been recorded in writing over 2000 years ago.

For there to be happiness, there must be sadness

Satisfaction requires Dissatisfaction for not having something.

Good can only exist, because the opposite, evil exists.

When its time for your conscious to either ascend into something great or live another lifetime in another country where most are starving, there would reasonable excuse you could give, as they would see everything you've done right before them for all of eternity unless you consciousness is able to experience the 5th dimensions, which would allow you to reflect upon what you're doing in the 4th dimension, then relive your life as many times as it takes to fix all you've wrong.

Unless you reject science, I don't see how you can reject God. Science points to higher dimensional forces effecting us who can only perceive it from 3. With a higher amount of dimensions, the possibilities for more advanced minds to evolve is sure to occur as well. Cause and Effect, something happens with a result. No religion states the singularity was concious and trying to think of him in terms of a human would be even worse than thinking of human as being lower than a cockroach without knowing the truth.

People live every day under the operational assumption, which is required for their sanity, that everything their senses present them is not a lie, an illusion, or a delusion. The fragility of the human mind has been proven repeatedly, even in a mass quantity. That said, when one attempts to define reality, by religion or by science, they must make the most arrogant of all assumptions. They assume they must be correct because their senses tell them that they are. But even to function, we must inevitably make this assumption to some base measure. Assuming scientists are correct, I observe my hand as solid, but in truth it is a mostly hollow cloud of atoms? My eyes lie to me because they cannot perceive the true context of my existence, but we rely on our eyes to give us the details of our instruments and even now as they become more and more sensitive we prove ourselves wrong about prior models daily... all the while we can't even validate with an absolute certainty.. any of it is even "real".

This is why I will forever claim to know nothing with certainty and in the least, I shall be correct about that statement. Anyone who claims otherwise cannot say they are looking for the truth in how reality functions.

Does religion give life meaning? It can and does. Are there other meanings? As many as their are minds. If you believe in a God(s), as I do, whomever they(it) is gave us the greatest gift of all. We are not machines. We have choice. The choices come with consequences, that's just how the system works. Causality is painful at times. An atheist can use self-determination to find a meaning for their life even if they do not accept a Sovereign God(s).

Religion and Science are both pointed towards this ends of discovering the meanings and reasons of reality, and whether you believe in God or Nature, neither have or will yield their answers with certainty.. ever. The Question shall never die and so the beauty of the mystery of our existence will also not ever die.

Even if I didn't have my Christian faith, I would still feel that there is a God, because there is one thing my perception repeats and that is that reality is absurdly complex and yet still seems to have some form of order. I do not feel this can spontaneously arise from chaos out of an explosion in a vacuum of variable and, by quantum mechanics, undefined materials, which by its own nature (from what we know of explosions according to our perceptions theories and observations), would be disorderly. But all this again, relies on potentially flawed observation.

This is where Faith comes in.

May the questions and mysteries always remain. We are as confused as Schrodinger's cat.

May it remain that way til time's ending, Amen.

The moment man knows the basis for creating his universe is the moment he will try to create his own. See "Atom Bomb" in wiki for things humanity does irresponsibly when there is still a potential it will eliminate its own existence.

Yeah, as an atheist, it irks me when the religious get on their high horse and proclaim I have no purpose.

My purpose is whatever I want it to be. Personally, I have chosen 2 for myself: One, to contribute to the sum of human knowledge, and two, to enjoy my life.

It almost seems like some religious people don't understand how to set their own purpose in life without being commanded by some figure of authority, real (a religious institution) or imaginary (god and other mythological figures).

Not all people of a group are the same. There is a great logical flaw in lumping all people of a single shared trait into being completely similar. I would encourage this flaw to be avoided by anyone seeking any measure of credibility in their discussions. One of the few truths that it seems possible to know is that we are all unique.

Much better. The irony for me is that I do not view God as a required reason to live. Instead, I have chosen him as my reason and model for living through Christ. It is a much more beautiful perspective on the purpose of living for Him. God made us to serve willingly, not as automatons. Whatever the situation of my state of existence, I will always have a reason for being. The one I have chosen is simply the best possible one given the nature of my Faith and I have no reason to chose any other. But that choice isn't shared with me by others as many do not share that Faith, and they are entitled to that. If God did not wish them to have choice, it would have already been stricken from their heads and our very being. It's only my duty as a Christian to inform others of what my God would have you to do and the consequences of not doing it. Afterwards, what happens, is between them and our Creator. My Faith tells me: Read Bible, believe it, repent, confess Christ as Lord, be Baptized into the Church of Christ, and be faithful until the end of your life. That is the plan of salvation. If the person chooses not to believe after hearing what I have to say, it is no longer within my control. You cannot force someone to pick up and share your faith, way of life, or belief and pestering them to do so will do little more than radicalize them further against the idea. Admittedly, it can be difficult to give up if it's someone close or in the family, but the Bible even has clear instructions for how to handle those that reject the word and it didn't involve chasing after them to the ends of the earth to force a conversion as I have unfortunately known some to do.

The actions of the latter, are what result in discussions such as this.

But don't you see? We atheists are helpless individuals. We're lacking in purpose, and they're only telling us this because they care.
