Viridia Day – Never Forget

This year, for the first time, sees the Viridian flags flying over the Serian parliament not just for the significance of this one day, but as a permanent fixture. That's something that looked particularly unlikely three years ago when the flag was lowered, seemingly for the last time, over the whole alliance.

In this modern era, full of rhetoric and worries about whether the 'old Hegemony' or the forces of Karma and Supergrievances will become the 'new Hegemony', and overblown predictions about what might happen, it's worth taking a moment to reflect on what really did happen at the height of the Initiative's control. A well respected, sanctioned alliance, shortly beforehand allied to (and seemingly friendly with) the central power bloc of the day, was destroyed utterly on a flimsy excuse in a naked power grab by the GGA and to satisfy the bloodlust of GOONS. And the rest of CN stood by and watched it happen.

This year we're seeing that no-one is prepared to step in and stand on Grämlins, but at least the main power groupings of the day are not supporting their action directly. In the 2007 mindset, IRON would have been excluded entirely from the Easter Sunday Accords and would be being utterly destroyed by the Supergrievances pseudo-bloc. On a day that marks one of the worst excesses of the old hegemony, take a look at the world today, and see that while it is not perfect, it is many steps ahead of where it was then.

Viridia came back from the dead, and is now stronger than ever – sixth strongest in the world, sanctioned and still guided by the same principles as it was three years and more ago. In order to return it had to make several compromises to be permitted to reform, including a limit on its Green character. In the last year we have seen several other reformations, which have not been required to make such accommodations to former enemies – even the much hated /b/ has been allowed to reform – another indication of how things have moved on.

This Viridia looks to the future, to how to best work within and improve the world of today. But on the anniversary of the blackest day in Viridian history, it is worth glancing back at the past and the lessons learnt through that experience. Let us never again allow the political scene to get to the point where another alliance has to have a day of rememberance.

"This year we're seeing that no-one is prepared to step in and stand on Grämlins, but at least the main power groupings of the day are not supporting their action directly."

This would be more convincing if the Supergrievances people weren't propping up Gremlins by preventing anyone from helping IRON. People have simply gotten more subtle about being unkind to other players, not better about it. "We're not doing it" is the battle cry of today, but there is also the whispered, "if YOU try to stop it we'll hammer you." No, the world isn't any better. The meanness is just masked better.

The official term for this day is Sunset Day. This marks my 2nd in the Entente, but hundreds of my other comrades in arms the Viridian culture runs deep in us, and we have great feel for the affect the disbandment had on the members both present and retired from the Entente, and you'd better believe no power will ever be strong enough to inflict that result on us again.

There are many around in this game who wished us dead, and a few who actually acted on that. To them I say look at us now, we are Viridia, and we are more powerful than we ever were before.

Hard to believe that was 3 years ago. The Viridicide was something that really helped shape my political views on bob, it made me leave the Initiative for ONOS and GUARD and showed me the corruption the was deep in that power structure.

One of the things that drew me to Viridia was the history of the Viridicide and how it shaped me as a ruler on bob and I could not be prouder of being a Viridian today.

Supergrievances already is the hegemony. That's pretty much clear. Also, they're totally propping up Gramlins. Doesn't bother me much because all it's really doing is killing Gramlins.

Nice to see you talking about something other than Gremlins (well, almost ;)), even if you did apparently get the name of the day wrong. Is it Viridia Day or Sunset Day?

"Sunset Day" is the official name. Culture is not a stat and therefore Bob has trouble keeping track of it :awesome:

We've called it 'Viridia Day' in Seria since the Viridicide – starting out as a somewhat mournful day reminding everyone how even a great alliance can fall if betrayed by its friends, it stuck even after VE came back (whereas I suspect most VE nations celebrate the reformation date). As I briefly mentioned in last year's entry (which was mostly about Karma and other happenings on the same date):

"Viridian flags are flown from public buildings on this day, although since the reformation, Viridia Day is more celebratory".

Naturally, within VE they have different names and celebrations to the Serian national ones.

Situation 1: GGA wants VE rolled, so they get all their allies together and PZI the lot of them.

Situation 2: Gre wants IRON rolled, so their allies leave them on the field to gradually bleed their membership count while IRON begins to rebuild and hold other alliances to their agreements

Clearly the same

The post you quoted does not state that the two instances you highlighted are the same, so what are you getting at?

I am glad that the Entente is still alive and kicking, and even more honoured for being to able to work with the people of Viridia.

This includes you Bob. :P

Happy "Viridia Day"!

Viridia is the seventh strongest in planet Bob as Pacifica have done their end of terms.

VE has prevailed and will prevail no matter what the odds.

We have god looking over us. :lol1:

:nuke: :nuke: Hail Viridia :nuke: :nuke:
