Military establish bases throughout Cambodia

Cambodia's military finished a series of bases that now string throughout the Union, fortifications along the border and munition plants to supply are popping up near residential areas. At 60,000 strong the Cambodian army has a strong presence in the Union. The government was founded by the armed forces so its only natural that the military practically run the country.

Cambodian forces pass through a town in Central Cambodia, large patrols and convoys like the one above have become a common site all over the Union unnerving several citizens over what seems like military occupation.

Harbor town brings wealth but also crime

The town of Kep at the Southern edge of Cambodia's coastline has been booming since the Union formed, ships flooding in from different private industries looking to take advantage of cheap crops, munitions and textiles in Cambodia. But there's another thing these ships are coming for, drugs, prostitution, and even human trafficking. Kep rakes in millions of Riel a week benefiting the economy of Cambodia, but Prime Minister Minh is growing irate over the increasing crime rate in the town wanting local law enforcement to step up their pace in eliminating drug trade and that destroying human trafficking is a top priority calling "sick and disgusting". Hundreds of police officers have been briefed on increasing patrols and investigations into the harbor area, the Cambodian government is sending out an official warning to foreigners not to go out alone in Kep as kidnappings toward young women has been on the rise.

Minh signs legislature to build and empower Parliament

Prime Minister Ong Minh signed into effect the 'Union Assembly Act' bringing the new Parliament of the Cambodian Union into power. The House of Union Assembly will be built within the capital near embassy lane. This is one of the biggest shifts in power seen since Minh seized power, Parliament will balance Minh's hold of the nation but Minh will still retain title of Prime Minister and is still commander and chief of the military.

Several citizens gathered to celebrate their nation making steps to becoming a democracy, others still protested on how Minh is still effectively the head of state of the Union.

From there all hell broke loose, the Cambodian military fired on the Laotian militia forces, due to being better equipped and better trained the Cambodian military struck heavy losses on the militia group till they withdrew from the area. 134 were left dead after the hour long firefight over 103 of them Laotian militia alone, 10 civilians and 21 Cambodian deaths. Parliament takes first steps in making Union a democracy

The newly formed Parliament of the Cambodian Union has finished local elections in the provinces of Cambodia and its representatives are meeting to discuss plans to increase military spending or divert funds into developing the country. So far only major cities and large towns have access to clean water and electricity and the capital is the only city with access to internet. But rising tensions along the Laotian border could see the Cambodian army make raids into the territory and require more recruits and equipment.

More firefights prompt invasion of Laos

More firefights between Laotian militia groups and Cambodian soldiers have been reported in the last few weeks, military high command and Prime Minister Ong Minh have weighed in the option to invade Laos and force these militia groups to disband. Over 15,000 troops with armored support and even fighter patrols have been bulked in the Northern region.

Tianxia expresses concern about the crisis on our Southern border, especially reports of refugees trying to cross into Yunnan Province with reports of the Whitening in Refugee Camps.  We urge a peaceful solution, meanwhile we're reinforcing the border with a mountain infantry division and an air combat element of F-111s, F/A-18 E/F, A-10s, and surveillance drones.

Helzan echoes Tianxia in our concern of the events ongoing between Cambodia and Laos considering their proximity to us. Military forces in Helzan are being put on to a increased alert in case the conflict spreads across to our borders. Helzan also advises both sides to halt all plans for future conflict and to use diplomacy to achieve a peaceful conclusion.

Two squads of recon specialist entered Laos up the Mekong river, Abel squad and Charlie both reported alarmingly sporadic activity across the Southern region of Laos. Numerous militia patrols made navigation difficult and signs of civilian abuse seem to be on the rise. Abel squad reported that militia members target practice on homeless people and that farmers and smaller villages have to pay 'protection' fees. Charlie squad is making their way up to Attapu, stating heavy patrols have delayed them from progressing. Before they signed off for the first day of recon, Abel reported Opium dens in Muang Khong and that the militia might be using the opium as a source of income.

So far the reports are showing that a large Laotian army is amassed in the South, using brute force to collect money and abuse civilians, they are possibly using opium dens as a source of income. Two more days of recon are planned for the two squads, they are now going radio silent for the next 24 hours.

We have received your report on the situation in Laos and we find the situation there unacceptable. Helzan forces will be marshaled to destroy all assets of the Laotian Army deemed to be hostile and dangerous. it will take some time for our forces to be ready to begin strikes. We would appreciate any further reconnaissance you are able to gather.

Recon missions being carried out by Abel and Charlie squads have reported their final report, Abel squad returned safely but Charlie squad engaged enemy forces after their mission became complicated.

Abel reported several thousand Laotian militia troops amassing near the Helzan border, heavily armed with technicals and even what appeared to be cold war era tanks. Abel on their way back to the Cambodian border made a risky radio transmission stating that over 34,000 Laotian troops were amassed in the Southern border region.

Charlie squad went further North, reporting that the Laotian militia had a force up to over 50,000 heavily armed and supplemented with numerous vehicles and tanks assaulting cities in the mid and northern region of Laos. This for the moment is making millions flee into Tianxia to escape the violent horde, accounts of pillaging and rape were high. Charlie squad made the decision to save a teenage girl from being raped by militia men. The six man squad engaged her attackers allowing her to escape but were quickly pinned down in the process. Two members of the squad were killed in action while the rest of Charlie squad managed to go underground in Muang Xon, they sent a radio transmission that made everything clear.

"They're called the Laotian Socialist Front, according to locals they've been burning and pillaging the Southern region for months and are making a full front invasion of the North. They buy off their weapons from arms dealers in the black market using funds made off of Opium dens scattered throughout Laos. They also have several women collected from smaller villages and farms forced into sex slavery and sold to officers in the LSF. All in all we are trapped here, they're looking for us now, had to leave Lin and Ko behind, they fought...they fought bravely. Let their families know how brave they were...requesting evac at the soonest, will be using burst transmission for contact, Captain Singh of Charlie squad out"

Ong Minh has with approval of Parliament declared Operation Pancho Villa in effect, over 45,000 Cambodian troops will be crossing the border backed up by three armored divisions and air support from the Cambodian air force. At 5:00 am four Cambodian Mig-21 fighter jets bombed Laotian troops by the border, Minh announced that it is imperative that the nations of South East Asia stop the horrors ongoing in Laos and promised more troops and operations to be conducted in the coming days to destroy the bandit forces of the LSF.

"North Korea condemns this mass violation of Laotian sovereignty and demands Cambodia, Tianxia, and any other state that is operating against Laos to immediately cease their campaigns. We had thought foreign imperialism had been stamped out in Asia, but now we see it was a lie."

The Cambodian Union shrugged off the insulting accusations of the Korean state, "The operations being launched into Laos are to necessitate peace and to prevent a violent faction from taking over the country, one that would pose a threat to the people of South East Asia. This 'LSF' has already conducted numerous acts of aggression against Union and violated several humane rights within the territory." - Prime Minster Minh

The objectives of the Cambodian army were listed to make clear to the international community of what was going on.

-Secure the Southern border region

-Destroy the LSF, this means rendering it useless as a military force in every way possible

-ensure the people of Laos are free from their oppressors

-Kill all heads of staff of the LSF, due to the horrendous acts committed against the Laotian people Minh has decided they do not deserve trial.

- Leave Laos in a state in which its people can peacefully carry out their lives.

Cambodian forces engaged LSF near the city of Muang Khong, they seized the city quickly inflicting 34 casualties and forcing hundreds of militia fleeing North. The city was captured without much hassle with many Laotian local leaders coming forth and asking for food and medical assistance. The Cambodian army will pursue the militia once it secures the Southern border region by seizing Attapu and Champasak.

OOC: rest of the Laotian conflict will be carried on this thread, http://forums.cybernations.net/index.php?/topic/122807-laotian-incursion/
