  1. UAR National Media Bureau (UARNMB), Harbin, Heilongjiang Republic: Formation of Government and Announcement of First National Symbols Reporting to you live from Harbin, in the Heilongjiang Republic, we have the results of the preliminary elections. Based on previous referendums, each of the three Republics of the UAR (Kirin, Heilongjiang, Primorsky) will elect a Premier, who will represent them on the National Soviet (here meaning a council) of the United Amur Republics. The National Soviet will function as an executive branch, with each Premier having equal status to each other, and each having a vote on every issue presented. A 2/3 majority between the three Premiers would pass a measure, for example. The three Premiers have been elected and are listed here: Premier of the Kirin Republic: Feng Sun (Amurese Liberal Democrat Party) Premier of the Heilongjiang Republic: Lao Zhang (Amurese Socialist Party) Premier of the Primorsky Republic: Ilya Fyodorov (Amurese Socialist Party) The National Congress results also came in. There are 90 seats, 30 for each Republic, and the total outcome was as follows: Majority Party: Amurese Socialist Party (50) Largest Minority Party: Amurese Liberal Democrat Party (24) Remaining Seats: Nationalist Party of Amur (10), Worker's Party of Amur (4), Amurese Conservative Party (2) Finally, the flag and coat of arms of the United Amur Republics were revealed, as selected by public vote: National Flag of the United Amur Republics Coat of Arms of the United Amur Republics
  2. "We thank our neighbors and countries around the world for their welcome. We hope to engage in diplomacy once our government structures are more finalized." -Premier of Heilongjiang Lao Zhang
  3. Declaration of Sovereignty of the United Amur Republics The banks of the Amur River were alive. The Reclamation had begun. Three new republics had risen, the Kirin Republic, the Heilongjiang Republic, and the Primorsky Republic. The Dragon, the Bear, and the Tiger, as they were called, entered into a union. The leaders would profess, "Unity is strength. The Amur flows for us." Kirin, Heilongjiang, and Primorsky would unite under the banner of the United Amur Republics. "Through the power of industry and agriculture, will we be strong. We will stand tall upon the ground that we work and toil over" "The United Amur Republics formally declares sovereignty and self-determination, and will seek to be a pillar of stability and a good neighbor in Eastern Asia."
  4. Could I claim Heilongjiang, Jilin, and Primorsky Krai as the United Amur Republics (or Amur Republics to fit)? DoE forthcoming if its not a protectorate. http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/q746/pizzacity2012/AmurRepublic_zps49267597.png
  5. If he realistically RPs, probably just stand frozen in awe of its American awesomeness.
  6. I concede Orkney and Sgetland to Justinians claim, and please remove Iceland from the map.
  7. Thanks for responding Lynneth, but nevermind. I am going to concede the islands and reroll now that I have a better feeling for how things are done, and I'm struggling for varied material in Iceland.
  8. Can I get some clarification on the OOC side for the Orkney and Shetland thing going on. I'll site Lynneth's post in the map thread: To quote you from 2 pages ago, Justinian the Mighty, on 15 Jul 2014 - 9:47 PM, said: Emphasis in bold. As Orkney and Shetland were busy being annexed by Iceland, you didn't claim them as per this post. If you want them now, you'll have to use diplomacy. Or war. The clarification I'd be looking for is if the part Lynneth put in bold. It seems to be a gray area for the claim rules, as I staked my official claim today after the two weeks, which would have allowed for Justinian's claiming of Great Britain proper, which contains Orkney and Shetland. However, because of the bold part, does that mean that my claim is staked and legitimized, which would leave him the options of diplomacy or war stated here, or does he automatically get them? I'll leave this for clarification from the GM's. That said, I am more than happy to RP this out, I just need to know beforehand if these are considered by the OOC rules mine, his, or evenly contested. That way I can base what my governments position would be.
  9. Reykjavik, Iceland: Orkney and Shetland Fully Integrated As of today, the island chains of Orkney and Shetland have been fully integrated and completely joined sovereignty with Iceland. Under the coming framework, like is planned upon Kujalleq's full integration, Orkney and Shetland will each become a province, equal in stature to Iceland which will devolve into a province itself under an overarching new national government. Classified Alertness levels in Orkney and Shetland have been lower back to Green and peacetime readiness.
  10. As of today, the two weeks and seven posts have been fulfilled for Orkney and Shetland to become part of Iceland. Currently on the map, Orkney is shaded as Great Britain, but it was never part of the original Great Britain claim, and no one contested my claims. Here are the island chains in question: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orkney_and_Shetland_%28UK_Parliament_constituency%29 Here is the first post, the rest follow quickly after words, for the most part all in a row: http://forums.cybernations.net/index.php?/topic/122628-icelandic-current-events/?p=3279835
  11. Iceland is glad that order has been upheld by the local population and that a local government has taken sovereignty over the region. Iceland recognizes the Republic of Milan and wishes them good tidings in their future affairs.
  12. Icelandic Media Corporation: Post-game Interview with Icelandic Captian Aron Einar Gunnarsson After almost tasting victory in their first match, but conceding a draw in the 88th minute, Icelandic midfielder and captain Aron Gunnarsson displayed mixed emotions in his postgame interview: "We felt like we really came out and played well, played aggressive, after halftime. We got that early goal there, we kept pressing, I think there are a lot of positives to take from it. We aren't considered an elite team or anything like that, but we are going to look to change the perception. I think anybody who saw us play, I hope that they recognize we can be a dangerous team. That said, we need to tighten up a few things. There is always room for improvement, and we've got to make some adjustments. Going forward, we will take the point and look to play even better. We want to advance of course, and we refuse to not give it our all. No matter what happens, we are going to do our best to out work our opponents, and I refuse to let Iceland down. Whatever happens on the pitch and in the standings, I want to make Iceland proud, and they will never be able to look at this team and say we didn't give it our absolute best shot."
  13. Iceland recognizes the new British government and welcomes them to the North Atlantic.
  14. Icelandic Media Corporation: Meet the Future of Icelandic Politics, Magnhild Anjasdottir Intelligent. Bold. Responsible. These are the first words you would use to describe Magnhild Anjasdottir, but they wouldn't be the only compliments you could through her way. Diligent, hard-working, and ambitious, Magnhild has made a name for herself in the post-independence period. Working as the Althing representative from Reykjavik, she has been a driving force behind a number of laws and programs that have been very beneficial for the country. She wrote the marriage equality bill, pushed for the rebuild and renovation of Reykjavik Harbor, and contributed to the organization of the Icelandic National Police. Her progressive and no-nonsense attitude has led to a strong political following. She is well liked by both the citizenry and her peers in the Althing, and with the momentum building behind her, it is expected that she will be in contention for a major office during the next election cycle. Get to know her, Iceland, if you haven't already. She'll probably be running this country someday, and we think she'll be taking us in the right direction. Magnhild Anjasdottir, Althing Representative of Reykjavik
  15. Corporate Spotlight: The Icelandic Media Corporation In the nation of Iceland, still in a nubile state, one media corporation has risen above the rest. The Icelandic Media Corporation (IMC) is fast becoming a media giant in the nation. The IMC is a broadcasting and entertainment corporation, with media agencies and a publishing wing. The IMC is responsible for a majority share of viewership in Iceland. The company produces television shows for consumption, but its biggest focus and its engine is its news agency. Statistics show that 7 out of 10 Icelanders get their news through the IMC either through television, on the internet, or by newspaper. New ventures by the Icelandic Media Corporation include magazine publication, literature publishing, and an independent film production company under its umbrella. The IMC is considered the foremost in the Icelandic business field, currently holding the distinction of the highest gross profit production of any corporation based in Iceland. The growth of the corporation has meant great things for the Icelandic economy and for employment. The IMC also garners a lot of support as it holds its headquarters in Reykjavik, but has expanded to smaller population centers, providing jobs for those that live in more isolated areas of the country.
  16. Special Missive to Ireland from Iceland [Private] To Whom It May Concern, Greetings. I am sending this message in reference to Ireland's recently issued declaration of protection and stewardship over all the British Isles, and most specifically, any offshore islands. I would like to inform the government of Ireland that Iceland, before any announcement was made by Ireland of protection, had sent peacekeeping forces to act as police in the Orkney and Shetland Islands. Shortly thereafter, Iceland staked a formal claim to the two island chains, with intent to join sovereignty with them. I would also like to note that this move is not imperialistic or colonial in nature, and that both Orkney and Shetland in joining sovereignty with Iceland, would become equal in political standing with Iceland within a new and restructured government, should full sovereignty over the areas in question be attained. My goal with contacting you was to avoid any diplomatic incident that could come from a miscommunication. If you wish to hold a meeting, I would be glad to discuss this in person. We wish no harm or instability in the islands, and if more explanation would be needed, we would be happy to relay. We feel that we have reasonable cause to engage politically with Orkney and Shetland, with long histories of political and cultural kinship and exchange. I look forward to your response. Sincerely, Valgeir Thorgursson Prime Minister of Iceland
  17. Orkney and Shetland: Icelandic Peacekeeping Forces Fully Patrol Both Island Chains After the Althing and Prime Minister decided to deploy additional peacekeeping forces to Orkney and Shetland, the forces have been fully bolstered, with Icelandic peacekeeping forces now having a presence on every inhabited island in both the Orkney and Shetland archipelagos. Forces in the main population centers have centralized their command structures in the police headquarters of said population centers, with the city halls of Kirkwall and Lerwick acting as the central HQ's. Private After the latest deployments, troop numbers for Orkney and Shetland are as follows: 2,100 Icelandic soldiers in Orkney, with 1,500 of those in Kirkwall. 2,500 Icelandic soldiers in Shetland, with 1,750 in Lerwick. Alertness levels have been raised to YELLOW (3) after news coming out of Ireland. (7/7)
  18. Reykjavik: Icelandic Military Reaches Recruitment Goals Today, the Office of the Prime Minister announced that the Icelandic Military has reached its initial recruitment goals and has accrued 59,360 soldiers. The initial group has finished training and has become a fully competent force of soldiers, with the next waves to finish training soon. The newly formed Ministry of Defense has begun to organize these fully trained soldiers, but the process is ongoing. At this point, the Vikingasveitin has been completely absorbed into the new Icelandic Military, previously having been a special branch of the National Police Force. Private The Icelandic Military will issue and utilize the following weapons: G36 Assault Rifle and its variants Benelli M1014 Combat Shotgun MG26 Light Machine Gun M60 Machine Gun The armament is expected to broaden in the near future. Orkney and Shetland: Further Deployments of Troops In the wake of official claims by Iceland over the island regions, the Icelandic Ministry of Defense has elected to send more security forces to both Orkeny and Shetland. These soldiers will come from the new ranks of the forming Icelandic Military, and unlike previous security forces will look to establish protection over the smaller population centers of the island chains. Previously, the Vikingasveitin had established a policing force in Kirkwall and Lerwick, the capitals, and a few outlying villages. Now, with the latest detachments sent, the Icelandic presence will extend to the full breadth of both archipelagos. (6/7) Kujalleq Province: Iceland Continues the Integration of Kujalleq In the wake of the unification of Iceland with Kujalleq, Iceland continues the process of integration. Community organizer offices have opened up to provide the people of Kujalleq with an outlet to construct their referendums which will be of great import in the nation. Icelandic personnel sent were not high ranking officials, but this was intended. The idea was to send personnel to help establish locations and systems that domestic Kujalleq citizens could utilize to form their own citizen council and political groups, so that there would be no undue feelings of Icelandic dominance. Instead, a culture of unity should be fostered, where the people of Kujalleq decide their political fate in the new framework as an equal province to Iceland in an expanded nation that encompasses both regions. (2/7)
  19. Orkney and Shetland: Old Norse Religion Sets Up Missions in Kirkwall and Lerwick Official representatives from the Old Custom, or Old Norse Religion, have made their way to the capitals of Orkney and Shetland and have set up missions in those towns. In Iceland, the Old Custom has been gaining steam as a religious movement, especially with religiously disillusioned members of society. The religion has deep roots in the two island chains historically, with many sites deemed culturally important to the movement. The missions were set up in Kirkwall and Lerwick as a place where interested Orcadians and Shetlanders can come and learn more about the Old Custom directly, should they so desire. Christian denominations, or at least cursory membership to them, still dominates the archipelagos' religious affiliations, but there has been some interest in the Old Custom, especially in the wake of the opening of the missions. (5/7)
  20. Response From PM Thorgursson "I would like to assure Tikal that Iceland has no intentions of western expansion beyond this point and that this is not colonization but a union between Kujalleq and Iceland, both will have equal status under a restructured government. We consider Kujalleq to reside in the same region as Iceland, with a shared history, though different cultures. I can understand that to you these are just words, but I can confidently say that western expansion is not in our wants or interests. We do not require a response, but I did feel as though I should at least personally address your concern."
  21. Iceland welcomes and supports this new state, and is glad to see a peaceful resolution was reached that ended with Grecian sovereignty.
  22. Reykjavik, Iceland/Qaqortoq, Kujalleq: Iceland and Kujalleq Unify Today, the sovereignty of the Kujalleq province of Greenland was transferred from the United States Greenland Protectorate to Iceland. Upon joining Iceland, Kujalleq was proclaimed in equal standing with Iceland as both were transformed into provinces of a joined state (previously, Iceland had been a unitary state). Changes to the government structure will come soon to accommodate this development, most prominent, delegates for the Althing attributed for Kujalleq. A round of referendums will be held in the coming days to assure the wishes of the citizens are adhered to. A new national flag is expected to be chosen (the current national flag will serve as Iceland's provincial flag), with the potential for a name change to reflect the new nature of the nation. In the meantime, it was announced that Qaqortoq would be the capital of Kujalleq province, as it has been traditionally. In conjunction with this, the provincial flag of Kujalleq was revealed: The flag depicts the Coat of Arms of Kujalleq in the upper left field on a red and white Nordic cross pattern, the traditional colors of Greenland. This news also comes with the ratification of the Treaty of Kujalleq, signed by the governments of Iceland and the United States. This contains provisions for the transfer of Kujalleq, a non-aggression pact between the two nations, and a mutual defense of Greenland provision. (1/7)
  23. Please add the Kujalleq province of Greenland to Iceland. Here is a link to a map of the province: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/4c/G-Kujalleq-name.svg/300px-G-Kujalleq-name.svg.png Here is a link to the appropriate thread: http://forums.cybernations.net/index.php?/topic/122837-meeting-on-greenland-america-and-iceland/ This was a transfer of land so I'm not sure if the rule on standard expansions applies. If need be I can do the seven posts thing.
